New Survivor Season

Now, I haven't watched Survivor in years. I think the last one I watched was the season in Africa. I just lost interest.

But I must watch this year!

Jon Dalton, 29
Occupation: Art consultant
Hometown: Danville, Va.

Danville is where I went to college! I can't wait to see that little redneck city represented on TV.

Just had to share ;)

djtestudo 09-03-2003 06:00 AM

I have a feeling that if he is on "Survivor", he will not be a good representation of your town...

Fremen 09-03-2003 06:13 AM

Well, for myself, I can't get enough of Survivor.
I've heard it's supposed to be more intense this year.
I saw a promo of the survivors jumping overboard and not being allowed to take anything with them but the clothes on their backs.

I didn't get to see the first two seasons of it and was wondering if they would be out on DVD at anytime.
Does anybody know?

Just my college town ;) He'll either be a good old boy country hick, or a pretentious ass. Since he's an art consultant, I'm gonna go with pretentious ass.

I haven't heard about the previous seasons being on DVD. I'm suprised that hasn't happened yet.

Mr. Spacemonkey 09-03-2003 12:46 PM

I'll probably be watching it this year. I've seen all the others so i probably won't miss this one.

crfpilot 09-03-2003 02:14 PM

I'll definitely be watching. I was going to start this thread as a matter of fact, but you beat me to it. I couldn't get into the Outback one but have watched the rest.

bundy 09-03-2003 07:47 PM

i love Survivor (well, the Outback and Amazon seasons to be precise).

iŽm just this total American (pseudo)reality TV junkie!!

but, as usual, weŽll probably be getting months after its over... so iŽll just have to find out who wins off you guys.

pornisbadforyou 09-04-2003 04:21 PM

last season was my favorite.. i thought it was totally underrated.. no one watched it.

but for some reason, the group dynamic was much better and it stayed pretty competitive right up to the end. plus, the DRAMA. it ruled.

i will definitely be watching this next season.

krd913 09-04-2003 05:53 PM

I will be watching this year I like the ideal of them getting nothing but clothes on thier backs but I bet there will be alot of food and water easy to find on the island

warrrreagl 09-04-2003 08:22 PM

I love Survivor, and I'll watch every episode just like always. By the way, The Smoking Gun has some great criminal reports on the current cast.

I thought it was a cool idea when it first came out. I got disappointed when I learned that they really didn't have to survive anything. Their food and supplies were given to them. :(

crfpilot 09-18-2003 08:56 PM

Well, what did you think? Who do you like?

I liked the opening where they got to go to the village to barter for stuff. Rupert stealing the other tribes shoes and stuff to sell them was pretty clever, I would've done the same thing probably.

I laughed my ass off when I saw that!
Good t.v.

It looks more interesting already.
Personally, I wish Tijuana would have gotten booted, but Nicole was a good choice, also.
I thought Tijuana was going to come to blows with the shopkeeper there for a second.
I wonder if she had, would they have shown it?
Sandra was doing some fine negotiating in the village, wasn't she? You see where they compared Drakes' bartering skills to Morgans'?
Made me almost ashamed to be American. Also made me want to reach into the screen and smack Tijuana upside the noggin.

Anyone know if they're allowed to kill snakes for food?

Also, can someone explain that speargun to me?
I didn't see any 'gun' part to it. Just them pulling back on something, then the spear shooting at the fish.

As to who I like, it's gotta be Rupert. He seems like a regular Joe.
He even looks like a pirate. :D

warrrreagl 09-19-2003 04:35 AM

I'll be glad when Tijuana's whiny ass is voted off. Jon seems like somebody who badly needs to be slapped. I like the rest of the cast.

You just described the spear gun perfectly. It's a projectile launched via a spring. That's all there is to it.

It's referred to as a gun because it is a projectile.

Daval 09-19-2003 04:55 AM

I was extremely distraught when Nicole was voted off. She was a massage therapist who admitted to wearing nothing under her dress and she had nice cans!

I was yelling at my TV screen.

Averett 09-19-2003 05:24 AM

Eh... it was alright. I doubt I'll watch the whole season.

I don't think you'll get your wish for awhile. As long as Ousten (and what kind of name is that, really?) is around, he wants to keep Tijuana. He thinks he'll "get some."

Bleech.

Drake's rule. Morgan's blow. Kind hope Ms. Boy Scout makes it to merge, but I also think the Morgan tribe will be visiting the coucil fire quite a bit. Her chances are slim.

The Morgan tribe seems to have no unity and are as collectively intelligent as dryer lint. The poor guy they elected leader might as well tattoo "TARGET" right across his forehead. There were so many worthy folks to boot out last night, I couldn't pick just one.

And Rupert is my new personal hero.:D

JohnnyRock 09-19-2003 09:19 AM

Thought it was pretty good--needs some more hotties....I'll watch it during SmackDown! commercials...

That scene right there made Rupert my #1 Survivor.

To the guy/gal commecting on Jon Dalton:

In a few interviews that Jeff Probst has done, he talked about how much of an obnoxious ass this guy is. During Tribal Council while Probst was trying to give his little speeches, Dalton would start talking to him, trying to screw him up. Probst says he hated the motherfucker .. and that's a quote i believe.

...and on one of the later episodes (supposedly the one when Dalton gets kicked out), Dalton drops some sort of bombshell on everyone at Tribal Council. Probst said that it's the greatest lie ever told on Survivor.

I'll look for the article.

Edit::::

here's one of them - http://www.survivornews.net/news.php?id=127

'Survivor' Lie Fools Probst, Fuels New Season
(Wednesday, September 17 05:18 PM)
By Rick Porter

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - After six turns as the host of "Survivor," Jeff Probst pretty much knows his job cold. Every now and then, though, something on the show catches him by surprise.

That happened during his stint off the coast of Panama for "Survivor: Pearl Islands," the seventh edition of the game, which premieres at 8 p.m. ET Thursday (Sept. 18) on CBS. For a time, he says he fell for "the greatest lie ever told on 'Survivor.' "

"It's brilliant. It's brutal and it's brilliant and it totally suckered me," says Probst, who, naturally, won't divulge who told the lie or what its ramifications were. "My first reaction was 'Motherf----r,' and then my second reaction was 'Wow, that's amazing.' "

The fantastic fib would seem to fit well with the overall theme of "Pearl Islands," which is piracy. The two tribes are called Drake and Morgan, after two English pirates (Sir Francis Drake and Capt. Henry Morgan) who sacked Spanish forts in the 16th and 17th centuries. Probst says working with that theme helped keep the show fresh for him and the crew this time.
"That was the creative box we worked in," he says. "[We were thinking] what would pirates do, how do we set them adrift, how do we do a mutiny, who can we make walk the plank."

The duplicity started right away. The 16 players were told to dress for a publicity photo while on the boat to their destination. Instead, though, Probst informed them that they'd be setting up camp with only the clothes they were wearing.

"It's not a huge twist in a sense, because it's just clothes," he says. "But it spins the game so differently from the beginning and puts them in a different mindset of being resourceful."

The two tribes were also given 100 Balboas -- the equivalent of $100 -- to buy supplies in a small village before being taken to their camps. They could also barter using the few items of clothing they had with them.

"What's interesting is one tribe comes out of there like they just robbed Fort Knox -- they have every thing," Probst says. "The other tribe comes out with not much more than when they went in. In fact, these idiots go back to camp with cash in hand. ... That's what makes the show still fascinating, is 'What are they thinking?' " <---- this paragraph cracks me up!

Because "Survivor" was essentially the starting point for the current glut of unscripted series, and because it's delivered consistently to a loyal audience, Probst thinks the show can outlive its newer, lesser spawn.

"I can see fatigue setting in with reality [shows], without question, because there's a lot of crap out there," he says. "Do I think it will affect 'Survivor'? No I don't. ... I think we're going to be around, I think 'American Idol' will be around, I think 'The Bachelor' will be around. Because they all touch on something, either fulfilling a dream or finding love or, in 'Survivor,' the adventure."

To make sure of that, though, the show's producers will keep coming up with new wrinkles. Probst promises more than just a grandiose lie by one of the players this time around.

"There's ... a very, very regrettable event that happens, and the person to whom it happens is going to regret it ... more than they have any idea right now," he says. "I couldn't believe it when it happened, and I can't wait for it to play out.

"There's also a huge twist to come that this time next year we'll be talking about, and you'll have an opinion on whether you loved or hated it."

Now I ask you, Is this a great show or what?

Edit: Can a mod fix the link, please? I don't have the know-how, it seems. :)
Thank you.

frankgrimes 09-19-2003 10:10 PM

Alpha males- Andrew, Burton and Shawn have gotta go - so self important and paternalistic.

It's ok. We know you're kidding. I'm sure all those luxurious meals that the crew gives them is what makes them all lose 30 pounds.

Derwood 09-20-2003 05:39 AM

Oh, and I'm now calling Rupert "Son of Gloin".

gold star to those who get the reference

DownwardSpiral 09-20-2003 11:08 AM

Survivor is still running? Jeez, I lost interest during the first one.

Troublebot 09-26-2003 06:37 AM

What did everyone think about last night?

Morgan sucks sooooo bad. No team unity, crappy leadership and too many "alpha males." I'll be very surprised the first time Drake has to go to tribal council.

As usual, Rupert is the man. The other idiot from his tribe loses the spear tip and comes back with some whiny story. Rupert just goes out and finds it.

Chubby guys rule. :)

BonesCPA 09-26-2003 12:15 PM

Because of schedule conflicts, I haven't kept up with the past couple of seasons, but I've seen the first two of this one and a thought keeps popping up in my mind: this year seems to have less of a survival theme and more of a piracy theme. I am not saying it is bad, but I am not expecting to see most of the players losing large amounts of weight. I've got a wait and see attitude on this new theme.

This year seems to me to be a lot more about survival than the previous seasons I've seen. (3 through to the present)
They started out with just the clothes on their backs.
They had to bargain for a lot of things in the village with only a small amount of money and only their own know-how.
So far, they haven't been given any food or blankets. Just water.
They make their own shelters.
Where's the not surviving part?
Granted, with the upcoming treasure chest of goodies, one team gets extra stuff, but the other will not.
(As far as I know, that is.) :)

This season is pretty interesting to me.
In the previous seasons that I watched, they had the food challenges and whatnot, and so the people were periodically fed.
Not this one............Yet.

I look forward to the rest of the season with anticipation.

Derwood 09-26-2003 04:54 PM

I think this season will go down as one of the best. I have yet to be disappointed in Survivor so far, and this season is no different. I'm gonna be really pissed when they vote Rupert off, because I think he's my favorite cast member of all time.

Troublebot 09-27-2003 04:31 AM

Right. From the beginning of this season, your success depended on how you acted as a team. One team had little leadership, rushed throught the town and got few supplies. The other team got together with a plan, relied on the strength of one of their players, and left with a multitude of treasures. It has made a diffrence ever since.

Only two episodes in and this is quickly turning into one of my favorite seasons.

Anyone looking forward to the "all star" season they're planning for the spring? That should start filming within the next few weeks.

That sounded good when I thought it would be celebrities.
I'm not sure about past contestants, though....nah, who am I kidding?
It'll be great!

If they pick the right players and an interesting location.

They need to make it a more hardcore survival experience for them since they've been through it before.

Spinach_Indeed 09-28-2003 05:28 AM

This is the third season I've watched. I watched the first two, and the first 2-3 episodes of the third Survivor (Got turned off at once).

By chance, I happened to catch the first Episode of this season. I'm really glad I did. Not only does it feature piracy, but... Rupert. Rupert IS the best Survivor... ever. Period. Don't touch Rupert. I'm going to be very upset when (or if) he gets voted out.

I was very sad to see Miss Boyscout and Ryan get seperated. Those two got stuck in the wrong tribe. Poor fellows.
