The League Of Gentlemen
A thread in sexuality stemed my memory to this show.....
Has anyone seen this British series before? I believe they've had 3 series now and also a christmas special which was really good. It's quite a dark comedy about happenings and events in a fictional town called Royston Vasey. There's 3 main guys in the show (forget there names) but they dress up quite a lot, to assume roles as different characters who interact in the fictional town. The structure of the show is fairly loose and oftens jumps from what may seem as one 'skit' to the next, although the last series they had was cleverly all intertwined and i really liked that, albeit was too short (as most good thing are) It's one of the most unique shows i've seen beofre, and it's also extremely funny and quite grotesque, it has an element of Monty Python, but is ultimately its own show. They're made some great and memorbale charaters over the series. I never knew how popular this show was anywhere? even in England? Also is another series planned, if anyone has any information on it? I think this will be one of my long time favourtie shows in the ranks of Seinfeld and Simpsons and recommend it, if you get a chance to see it. comments welcome |

The few times I have been able to see it on BBC America, it was hilarious. Nowadays, all they seem to show on BBCAM is Trading Spaces or whatever the hell it is.

The League of Gentlemen Christmas Special is the funniest, most gloriously fucked-up thing I've ever seen. Seeing Santa Claus break into a church, kidnap the priest and ride away on his sleigh shouting "You're MY wife now!" was just incredible.

No doubt that it'll be re-made with Americans and it'll be complete crap. Just like Fawlty Towers, Men Behaving Badly, Coupling, etc, etc.
