Haven't gotten it yet but will in the next day or two. The local Media Play was open until 2am here and were supposed to start selling it at midnight but the wifes at work and I really didn't feel like waking up the kids and heading there just for a movie.

I got it, I ended up getting the Super Special Edition with the Gollum statue, note to all Collectible Collectors: YOU MUST OWN THIS VERSION!!! It shows a lot about how the Weta Statues were made and is quite insightful, plus the Gollum statue is excellent. I watched a fair bit of the EE scenes a few moments ago and I must say that the scene where Faramir finds Boromir's dead body floating down the river is scary as hell. It's shot magnificantly. As it stands now my favourite addition to the TTT film is an end to the Helm's Deep battle, you actually see the enemy's army get driven back into the forest along with more scenes that sort of resolve the current situations with all the characters at hand.

Got it yesterday, haven't had a chance to watch it because I watched tomb raider and santa clause 2 first. I had to have them on the shelf at 9am today if you're wondering why i watched them instead of TTT:EE.

So what's the difference between the Extended Edition and the Super Mega Extended Edition? Other than you get a statue in the SMEE version.

Woohooo! Just checked out the offical site and the only difference between the EE and the Gift Set is the Gollum statue. You get a booklet and extra DVD about the making of the statue, but I can live without that. Especially since there's a $40 price difference. I'm soo exited... and I just can't hide it.... weeee!

I hated the film version of The Two Towers. I'm not going to see The Return of the King. Unless Peter Jackson has changed all of the characters to better resemble their literary counterparts, I would never buy any edition of the movie.

All Hail the might of peter Jackson's marketing team- all hail the glory of franchises
seriously though its nice to support a franchise created around a series of movies that is well done for once- jackson is the George lucas of today- and sadly lucas is becoming that guy who shot Plan 9 from outer space

AND IT ROCKS!!

brilliant... i think its just the BEST marketing ploy to have the shortened version in the cinemas, and then have the better, extended, understandable version come out a little later, on dvd.

just brilliant.

I'm getting it for Christmas. IGN gave it a 10 out of 10. Holy hell...it must be awesome. TechTV showed some parts of the HOUR long deleted scenes and it was amazing. Fellowship of the Ring made much more sense to me after seeing the deleted scenes...I imagine The Two Towers will as well. Not to mention I just finished the game on PS2 which was most excellent.

I'm the same way. If I know I'm going to get a movie, I get it the day it's released if at all possible. I don't know quite why I do it, but I think it probably suckers me into buying a lot of movies I otherwise might not buy too.

I really don't see the point in buying any of the LOTR movies yet actually. I figure with the rate they're at that they'll release some monster, 8-disc box set a year or two after the return of the king is out.

Yeah, same here. I guess some people just can't wait that long!

For the same reasons, I am holding off buying Matrix/Reloaded. I want to get the enevitable super-ultra-extended-revised-20 disc box set.

For what it is worth, Peter Jackson has been quoted as saying there will be no further versions of the films.

Logically, there may be a box set that includes the three Extended Editions, but no new material.

I don't see how you coul add anything to the current sets.I mean if your not satisfied with the current versions you have to be pretty hard to please. Honestly though after getting this and OUTTIW I've watched my once upon a time in the west disc a whole lot more.the extended editions are so extensive I don't have the time yet(in college gearing up for exams) to explore it all.

I just bought it today and I watched the first half and I have to say the new scenes didn't add much for me. Although, I think the scenes in the second half will be much better. Awesome movie all around though and it's not like the new scenes ruin the movie, it's just that when I watch it I can see why they cut it. I'll either watch the other half tomorrow or some time later tonight.
