Wolves of Calla-Stephen King - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

I've got to say, I love Stephen King. I've read over thirty of his books, and I've been dying waiting for him to finish the Dark Tower series. I know that many of his endings just kind of peter out or become too fantastical, but I still read them anyways. I also appreciate how he has created a whole universe that he constantly links together.
The point is, Wolves of Calla just came out, and I got my copy today. I know that the last two books are due out next year, and I am excited to finally be able to finish the series, but at the same time he has really drawn me in with his storytelling and I do not wish it to end.
The other thing I appreciate about King is his author's notes. He really writes to his audience and talks about his life, publishing, his craft, and sometimes even his word processing equipment. It gives me a lot of respect for him and his craft.
I don't really have any big question or anythng, I just wanted to talk about one of my favorite authors. I hope you enjoy his Dark Tower series as well.

I've been waiting for this since Wizard & Glass back in 1997. Now it is finally out, but I can't afford the $22 dollars to buy it until I get paid in a week, and even then I may not have enough money after bills and car problems. Frustration!

This is definately one book series I hope never is turned into a movie. My mental image of Roland's world would be ruined if I saw it it a movie.

I really should try to slog the rest of the way through Wizard and Glass. I read the first three at a frantic pace, and The Wastelands is one of King's best books, but W&G bored the crap out of me for some reason. Then again, why rush to finish Wolves when I'll just have to wait for the next two?

I would like to add that I am envious of anyone who hasn't read this series yet.

Because when someone starts reading them now, they won't have to endure the agony myself and other SK fans have while waiting years for each part of the Dark Tower to come out.

Very kind, however I actually bought it a few days ago. I was debating with myself if I should... or if I shouldn't... then I thought "screw it, the book is mine." I just had to make sure the electric, phone, and rent was taken care of... and the car is seeming to actually fix itself in a strange kinda way...

It is $22 at WalMart, but I decided they don't need my money, so I spent $26 for it at the area supermarket for it.

Very good book so far, about 200 pages into it. Story started out slow, but now is picking up pretty good. My only complaint is that the black dye from the cover underneath the slip cover is rubbing off onto my fingertips.

I can't wait to pick up wolves... i started rereading the series 3 weeks ago and am halfway through the 4th book.... this weekend i will hit sams club for wolves...

The Dark Tower has by far been the best fantasy series of books I have read... well its a close second to Tolkien's LOTR but Steve King makes refrence to LOTR in his author's notes...

Funny story related to this series is whenever I hear Metallica's "Unforgiven" I have a weird Black and White Cartoonish Video of The Gunslinger running through my head... (Kinda like that 80's band Uh-huh (SP) video of "take on me"

I would like to see the books adapted into a movie but, I think it would be better off if it was animated...

Just finished Wolves, and I thought it was good. For me it just didnt live up to the other four books.

I'm not saying it was bad, hell I read it cover to cover in just a few days. It just felt like a book that was needed to set up the final two books.

I hope they never EVER make movies of these, you just know they would butcher the end to The Gunslinger and make it a big shootout...

BTW speaking of The Gunslinger anybody read the new version of it that King's put out? I'm about halfway through it.

I have to agree about the complaints of the ink on the hardcover. I always take the covers off, because they just get torn and lost, and everytime I carried that book into the bathroom, I would get black marks on my fingers. I did like the book, maybe not quite as much as wizard and glass, but it was still good, and it still pushes closer to the Dark Tower.

I'm at the part where Callahan is talking about his past. It is pretty interesting, but I'm thinking... when does this story progress? There is a large amount of background which is covered. I'm halfway through the book, and it seems as if only a week has passed since the end of Wizard and Glass.

Maybe I'm just impatient. I want them to get to the damn tower!

I like how he makes Roland to be a man with faults; not perfect. It is easier to relate to him when he has things like arthritis. I mean, he killed his mom on accident, which is something I guess I can't relate with too well, but he is great as a haunted hero.

I don't know I really liked Calla it surprised me at the end and made me laugh out loud that was really cool. I thought it was just as good as the others. I read the brand new releases right before V came out and the only thing I could really say is they seemed to be more polished. No major changes I could discern.<p>I agree about the ink on the covers that bothered me.<p>Overall I thought it was really good.

Not to change the flow of the thread, but I just picked up book 1 and started it this week. I must say that it starting off very bizzarre and I am not sure about it so far, but it is very unique and is keeping me wondering wtf is going on.

I don't read that much fiction any more, but I had fond memories of Stephen King. So I bought the first book and started reading it.

I have to admit it kinda sucked and I stopped about a third of the way through.

I went out to get the new Dave Farland book, and there this was, and the new Orson Scott Card Alvin Maker book too. I have been reading like mad ever since.

I like this series a lot. It has a vibe completely unique in my experience, even of other King books.
