Comedians you've seen

What comedians have you seen live? Were they any good?

I saw JimOin live a couple of years ago. He was awesome. I thought that the guy the warmed the crowd up was also very funny. Wish i'd seen Billy Connely live.

Batman976 11-05-2003 11:34 PM

I wouldn't call him a comedian, but I saw Henry Rollins spoken word. That guy seriously knows how to tell some good stories.

almostaugust 11-06-2003 02:45 AM

Ive always wanted to see Rollins.

Redlemon 11-06-2003 06:30 AM

Lewis Black is my favorite comedian, and my wife got me tickets a couple years ago. He was great live.

mb99usa 11-06-2003 06:38 AM

We saw Gallagher live in a little club a few years back.
Just saw Stephen Lynch live last year. He is great I want to go see him again this year but we don't have the money.

mattevil 11-06-2003 06:52 AM

I've seen bill cosby and george carlin(twice and worth it both times).
i saw robin williams when he was shooting bicentennial man but he wasn't doing stand up (kind of an asshole to me but i got my autograph and story)

JohnnyRock 11-06-2003 08:57 AM

I used to see them all the time back in the day Dice, Anthony Clarke, etc... Most recently I saw Jim Norton and he is a funny little bastard

GSRIDER 11-06-2003 09:01 AM

I saw Gallagers twin brother.... I just closed my eyes and pretended it was him... they look alike.

I've seen a handfull of others but can't remember their names.

Hands down, best/worst night of my life... Bill fuckin Hicks.

ironchef82 11-06-2003 12:11 PM

I saw Mark Curry (from hanging with mr. cooper) and Lewis Black for some insanely cheap price, like $5. It was over at Ithaca College. By far the most bang for the buck that I have ever gotten in anything.

Lewis Black was amazing... so hilarious. Mark Curry was pretty decent too.

I've also seen Jon Stewart, Tracy Morgan, Stephen Lynch, and Dave Chappelle here at Cornell. All were good shows. Wow... come to think of it, I didn't realize I've been to all these... damn.

God of Thunder 11-06-2003 12:28 PM

Seen George Carlin
Jeff Foxworthy & Bill Engvall (seperately and together on Blue Collar Tour)
Jeff Dunham
several local comedians

All were very good. The Blue Collar Tour was amazing, it also featured Larry the Cable Guy.

Jeff Dunham is a ventriliquist who features "Peanut" and "Walter". My side was hurting after the show.

mercury-hg 11-06-2003 01:18 PM

Mitch Hedbergh 3 times (worth the money every time)
Lewis Black
Dave Atell

Cool, Jon Stewart and Dave Chappelle also came to do shows at UMD in the past few years. Mo Rocca was just here as well. Unfortunately, I've missed all three of them, thanks mostly to ill-timed anniversaries with the ol' ex. bitter? nah... ;)

Averett 11-06-2003 01:53 PM

I also saw Lewis Black, Dave Atell and Mitch Hedbergh.

Mitch Hedbergh rocked my world. I was cracking up the entire time.

"do you like toast? It is a nice surface for jam to lay"

bundy 11-06-2003 03:53 PM

i´ve seen Carl Barren and Wil Anderson live.
i wish to see Judith Lucy.

i guess those names only mean something to Aussies, but anyway...

Randerolf 11-06-2003 07:21 PM

I've seen Rollins do his thing. I loved it. It was in a club, a little more intimate than...

I jsut got back from seeing Dave Atell and Lewis Black. Black is my favorite. He is a living breathing Howard Beale.

spectre 11-06-2003 07:26 PM

So far, only Dom Irrera, and he was hysterical. I really want to see Lewis Black live. He's awesome. :)

Psivage 11-07-2003 11:42 AM

Well they aren't famous, but every year at Christmas my Aunt and Uncle put on a good show.

" The Turkey is dry."

" Goddamit Pete will shut up and eat the Turkey without complaining?"

Good old holiday memories.

Snakebyt 11-07-2003 01:35 PM

im going to see Rodney Carrington later this month.. i have seen him before, and the guy is a riot

fugue_life 11-08-2003 01:07 PM

I saw Drew Carrey way back when before he had his show, not quite as pg as some people would think (although if you read his book you wouldn't have that opinion.)
Pen & Teller in Vegas was fun
Gallagher when I was like 8 or so and didn't understand any of the sex references, just wanted to see the sledge-o-matic

i am also on the list of lewis black fans and can't wait to see him either

Baldrick 11-08-2003 03:00 PM

I've seen Bill Cosby a few times. He is without a doubt my favorite comedian of all time. I've also enjoyed George Carlin (2nd favorite) and Richard Jeni in concert. I defy anyone not to have tears the first time they hear Richard Jeni tell his "stages of drunk" story...

I saw Robin Williams at an industry function when Aladdin first came out on video. I was.....underwhelmed. I respect what he does, but on stage he just seems to be a mental patient on speed. I found myself more laughing at him, than with his stories.

smiling_bob 11-08-2003 03:15 PM

The two biggest names I've seen were Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Cosby, both were very good. Dane Cook put on a very explosive show which was great. I got tickets to see Lewis Black, Dave Attel, and Mitch Hedberg. Also, Brian Regan is coming soon, so I'll have to see him.

I forgot that I had seen Cosby at a benifit once. He was great. Really funny while keeping the act completely clean.

almostaugust 11-08-2003 11:15 PM

I also saw The Melbourne Comedy Festival Roadshow. This American bloke named Greer was a riot. Really very funny. Anyone else heard of this comedian?

hy_ 11-10-2003 01:39 PM

brian regan, SOOO funny

Brian Regan has that posture he does that just cracks me up.
His body language is funny as hell.

I haven't seen any comedians live, unfortunately, but I've seen all these mentioned (with the exception of bundys' comedians and Psivages' Aunt and Uncle);) on tv.

Doesn't Larry Miller do that bit?

teshadoh 11-13-2003 06:20 PM

I saw David Atell - yeah he was a funny mofo

Bob Biter 11-13-2003 08:58 PM

I've seen Jerry Seinfeld, Mitch Hedberg, Steven Wright (Do you think Miles Davis would be known in Canada as Kilometers Davis?), Mike MacDonald, Toby Elias, David Acher and a few other Canadian acts.

j03th3j3w 11-15-2003 01:15 AM

the name may not sound familiar.. but they call him "The Sandman" .. he is a comedian hypnotist... funny as fuck... i have a video of him hypnotizing me... great memories :)

Spanky Johnson 11-15-2003 12:05 PM

I saw Sam Kinison at a club in Tulsa a few years before he died. His show wasn't that long, but he was really funny.

For some reason, he's also buried in Tulsa

according to the IMDB . I'm not sure what the Tulsa connection is -- he was born in Illinois.

Spektr 11-15-2003 03:08 PM

Kevin Brannen, Stephen Lynch and Uncle Tops were all really good, but Vince Morris was definitely the best. Not many people know about him, but he's unreal. Go see him if you get the chance.

I'm still waiting for the opportunity to go see Eddie Izzard.

jerseyboy 11-16-2003 05:40 PM

I've seen Jay Mohr, Lewis Black, and Dave Atell all at college. All were pretty good but the funniest part of the experiences was seeing the really conservative people's reactions to the kinda inappropriate material.

My all time favority is Sarah Silverman. Theres nothing like seeing a hot chick talk about completely dirty trashy stuff. I would kill for her to come here to see people's reactions.

amonkie 11-16-2003 09:26 PM

Seen Jay Mohr, but I'd have to say my favorite so far was Bobby Slaton- he really worked with the audience in his routine. It's nice knowing they can add some variety to their acts.

thegreek 11-16-2003 11:00 PM

mitch hedeburg

this guys delivery is unbelievable, the best comic ive seen... can listen to the same joke 10 times and its still just as funy

EbolaVirus 11-17-2003 09:57 AM

I saw Jim Breuer at college. He was funny.

Batman976 11-17-2003 10:35 AM

I just remembered that I saw D.L. Hughley once. I don't remember him being all that funny though. He did a bit for a while, then he spent about an hour making fun of people in the audience.

warrrreagl 11-17-2003 12:36 PM

(in order, skipping repeats)

Bill Cosby (1971)
George Carlin (1972)
Richard Pryor (1976)
George Wallace (1978)
Jay Leno (1978)
Jerry Seinfeld (1978)
Stephen Wright (1985)
Emo Phillips (1985)
Sid Caesar (1988)
Bobby Slater (1990)
Richard Jeni (1990)
Dom Irrera (1991)

Aw, shoot, I can't remember them all anymore.

jvwgtr 11-18-2003 05:47 AM

I saw in college:

Bobcat Goldthwait
Julia Sweeney
Dennis Miller
Jeff Foxworthy
Adam Sandler

Dennis Miller was actually sick, but came on anyway.
Julia Sweeney was fresh off SNL, and supposedly hadn't really done standup before...she bombed terribly.

I would kill to see Stephen Lynch, Brian Reagan, or Mitch Hedberg. They all can crack me up, even with old material.

quadro2000 11-18-2003 09:35 AM

Most of the comics I've seen are in small clubs, so they're not anybody with names that most people would recognize.

I saw Carlin a few years ago, I was actually a bit disappointed as much of his material was on his CD released a couple of years prior.

I would love to see Bill Cosby or Jerry Seinfeld. In "Comedian," Jerry talks about how wonderful Cosby is.

I keep meaning to see Stephen Lynch but for some reason I never go when he's in town.

I would have loved to have seen Eddie Murphy in the mid 80s.

dragon2fire 11-18-2003 10:26 AM

george carlin live

god that was great

ShaniFaye 11-18-2003 10:43 AM

Richard Jeni
Tim Wilson

I've been in love with Richard Jeni since the 80's

Before I die my goal in life is to see Eddie Izzard live

dailyjo2003 11-18-2003 11:54 AM

George Carlin - he is a really pissed off white man.
