TV?

How much do you watch? I'm a big fan of movies but TV's never had much draw for me, so I only watch maybe 1 or 2 hours a month. I was going to put this on the Tilted Entertainment board but I thought the replies might be kind of biased towards lots of TV, seeing as how that's the board's topic of discussion.

Edit: Well, it appears the powers that be gave me no choice and put it there anyway... :D

SiN 04-28-2003 01:11 PM

nope, not really..prolly average couple hrs/month. have never been much of a TV watcher...

on occasion tho i'll watch downloaded TV eps. rare occasion ;)

Liquor Dealer 04-28-2003 01:13 PM

I seldom miss Jeopardy - I watch Alias, 24, Dragnet, and NYPD Blue. I usually watch the Sopranos because they remind me of my next door neighbors. When I'm bored and tired of the computer I watch Discover Channel Wings.

Sensei 04-28-2003 01:21 PM

I watch tons of mindless crap when I'm back home and have plent of spare time. I have cable here at college so there's a much bigger variety and quality of shows. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to watch it here so much. I usually watch SportsCenter while I eat and I never miss Survivor (by the way, this is the best season ever).

kgb 04-28-2003 01:26 PM

I usually reduce my cable to just the networks during the summer. I have plaenty of other stuff to do but I like being able to watch the local news and a few dramas/sitcoms here and there. I usually have the TV on but I don't really watch it. It is nice background noise. In the winter I go all out and get a bunch of cable channels. Not sure if I even watch that much more TV in the winter but I am a football fan and need ESPN for the Sunday Night game.

All in all most TV is mindless crap but sometimes I like mindless crap.

sixate 04-28-2003 01:39 PM

If it wasn't for sports I would hardly ever watch TV. A few shows on HBO that I watch and the news is really about it for me. Internet is much better. :)

frenik 04-28-2003 01:39 PM

I picked "Almost every day" but it's kind of misleading, as I really don't watch that much TV. The only things I really watch are documentaries and a few shows on Comedy Central and Cartoon Network. I rarely watch network TV (the only things I can think of right now are Simpsons and Oliver Beene, which I've kind of gotten into lately). I get my news from the internet, so cable news when it's on is usually muted as I read or whatever.

I'd say I watch maybe an hour a day, and that's only if something decent is on. I don't have a problem leaving the TV off.

Same here. I end up watching DVDs more then tv too.

Go_AVS 04-28-2003 01:47 PM

I need my ESPN and any other channel broadcasting sports. As for regular TV, I TIVO a few shows like Survivor, Fear Factor and any good movies that are coming on. I hate to watch any regular shows with commercials so I usually let a few weeks of them build up then have a marathon. If there were no sports, I would probably only watch it less than once a week, with sports, it might be everyday..

Mango 04-28-2003 01:52 PM

I don't get any reception where I live and can't be bothered to pay for a dish. I have a VCR that plays primarily kiddie vids. In the last 5 years I have been to the thatre about 4 times and rented about 4 movies. I just can't get into all the crap that they try to cramb down our throats in the guise of entertainment. And no I don't miss any good shows. If I don't know of them how can I miss them.

strickendumb 04-28-2003 02:42 PM

I work during the day, and my boyfriend works at night. What else do I have to do other than drone infront of the tv? lol But seriously, I'm a movie freak.

zf0enix 04-28-2003 03:02 PM

I hardly ever watch it. Usually a movie on the weekends, but that's it.

The_Dude 04-28-2003 03:03 PM

watch a couple of shows on primetime

that's about it

Angel 04-28-2003 05:36 PM

Very seldom do I watch TV.
The most time it is on is when I am doing my workout tape.

gov135 04-28-2003 05:49 PM

I don't watch much primetime tv, some series I like, I don't like sitcoms.

But I answered once a day to the poll, cause I always have the ball game on. I may be into it, or it may be on in the background (like now) but I always enjoy having the game on.

Do sporting events count? I guess - its tv. But without sports (what a horrible thought) I'd say three times a week or so.

GakFace 04-28-2003 06:01 PM

I'll have it on everyday, but that doesn't mean i'm always watching it. Sometimes I use it as a cheap reference as a clock when i'm gaming and don't want to search for a clock ;)

snowy 04-28-2003 06:14 PM

Um...I see it when I walk past my roommate watching it, and usually that's about it for me, unless I'm watching sports. Now that we're getting into playoff season for basketball and hockey, I'm watching more games, but still not as much television as other people. I would rather be on the computer or studying. :) I'm a good girl like that. :D

splck 04-28-2003 06:18 PM

I get all the movie channels, PPV's via an "fixed" sat dish and I still don't watch alot of TV. Sports tends to be what I watch most. 500 channels and it's still shit.

SaltPork 04-28-2003 08:31 PM

150 channels something is always on...gotta love digital cable.

phoenix1002 04-28-2003 08:33 PM

I never have watched much tv, except for usually one movie a week. Why spend that time sitting in front of the tv when I could spend it outside, or at least on the computer. I mean, I can interact with other people through the computer, but I can only watch the tv.

Yeah, I think that's my main problem with TV as well. I mean, sure, most of the shows are stupid, but it goes even deeper than that. I'm not the sit-around-do-nothing type. I always have to be doing something, and there just isn't any interaction when you're in front of the boob tube. It's too passive, and I hate passitivity.

Frosstbyte 04-28-2003 09:00 PM

I've gotten much much worse with TV this year. I kind of turn it on and just leave it running. Doesn't matter what's on or what's going on, it's just there. Oh well.

YzermanS19 04-28-2003 09:04 PM

I love tv, but I dont have one here in college, so I dont watch it that often. Even when i did have one here, I got no reception, so it didnt matter very much :)

william_wallace 04-28-2003 09:08 PM

I'm down to watching Adult Swim and occasionaly Toonami on cartoon network, some random stuff on Comedy Central, and mainly The History Channel. Most everything else i've seen on TV recently has been complete crap.

impirius7 04-28-2003 10:01 PM

i find most of the sitcoms on inane and annoying, i can read all the news and more online, and i download or rent movies. the only TV i watch is the simpsons a few times a week, not even every week.

phredgreen 04-28-2003 10:54 PM

trigger happy tv, south park, the simpsons, and an occasional show on the history channel... that's about it for me. tv dosen't interact like a computer does.

World's King 04-28-2003 11:05 PM

TV = Parents

Cynthetiq 04-29-2003 02:13 AM

too much TV.... I used to not watch all that much... then I started working in the business and I have several shows I watch religiously, Buffy, Angel, 24, Shield, Malcolm in the Middle. I have a TV in my office and they are all over the building.

riskybiz 04-29-2003 02:25 AM

I've been subscribing to Netflix for years and watch several DVD movies on TV each week. I'm not a fan of network TV although I do try to catch some news after work and the occasional show if I don't have a DVD available. Best way to watch the Sopranos is on rented DVDs so the show can be paused when I need a beer or a piss.

Sitcoms just don't do it for me. I do try to catch 60 Minutes if I'm home.

Guilty pleasure is Survivor - my wife got me hooked.

bundy 04-29-2003 02:35 AM

absolute media junkie here.
watch a lot of tv, but thats my interest.
besides i only get 5 channels.

Grondar 04-29-2003 03:36 AM

My TV and PC are both in my room, so I spend A LOT of time there. :)

I usually have the TV on SportsCenter or ESPNews when I am not "watching" it, but I still keep it on.

troit 04-29-2003 03:55 AM

I usually watch a few sports programs a week along with the Discovery Channel. That's it...

MrFlux 04-29-2003 03:59 AM

I sometimes watch South Park or The Soprano's but only if I remember. I get shit reception anyway so it's not really worth it.

warrrreagl 04-29-2003 12:34 PM

Addicted to NYPD, Guardian, American Dreams, and Without a Trace.

rekinom 04-29-2003 07:16 PM

Quadraton 04-29-2003 07:44 PM

When I was a kid, I was a television junkie. I used to watch almost everything, even some of the boring shows. Hell, I'd watch the PBS pledge drives if I had nothing better to do.

But lately, I barely watch any TV at all. I think it's because I've gotten a lot smarter over the years, and most of these shows just irritate the Hell out of me. I can no longer just sit down and watch a show without finding some flaw in the plot line, or getting pissed off at lousy character development. Things were so much simpler when I was blissfully ignorant.

And ever since the Simpsons started going downhill, and they cancelled Family Guy, things haven't been getting any better.

JoeyB 04-29-2003 07:50 PM

Ugh. As soon as I enter a room, it goes on and stays on even if I'm not watching anything. It's comfortable background noise.
