I decided to switch it up and go with Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk, which I finished last night by reading more than two thirds of the book before going to sleep.
Great book, definately the same type of book as Fight Club as the story starts simple, then takes a very large drop in weirdness, but it oddly makes a lot of sense. It's another great book, and I hope they make a movie out of it the caliber of Fight Club because it has great potential, and a few chapters you can tell would be great in a movie (if you've read the book, you know chapter 2 could definately be a movie scene.) Next up, the rest of the Chuck Palahniuk collection, Invisible Monsters, Choke, Lullaby, Diary. |
The New Revelations- A Conversation with God by Neale Donald Walsch.
|
The hunt for red october- tom clancy
|
Just finished Angels & Deamons by Dan Brown. Loved it.
I'm currently reading Naked Economics by Charles Weelan and it's fantastic so far. I'd highly recommend this book to everyone. It's a simple read and explains economics to the layman using nothing but simple language. No graphs or complicated math. |
not reading anything right now, but I might start Salem's Lot by Stephen King soon.
|
How have I missed this thread?
Currently, I am reading three Stephen King novels simultaneously; Dark Tower VI: Song of Susannah Insomnia Hearts in Atlantis |
Just started Fallen Angels, the sequel to Altered Carbon. Would highly recommend the duo for anyone who likes Phillip K Dick, William Gibson, or the scifi stories prevalant in the 70's that follow the "man vs the world" conflict.
Next up will be Absolution Gap, the final volume of the revelation space trilogy, quite possible the best hard sci-fi writtin in the last 20 years. |
Junky by William S. Burroughs
|
this thread. oh, that and MAD mag.
|
Ian Douglas, The Heritage Triolgy 2: Luna Marine (on the bus)
W. M. Gear, The Forbidden Borders Trilogy 3: Countermeasures (at home) |
workin' on (link-->) The Flanders Panel by Arturo Reverte-Perez.
pretty awesome book so far. the guy's a great writer, addin' some new words to my vocab for sure :) he's pretty verbose but the descriptions are amazing. it reminds me strongly of the da vinci code, but definitely a distinct style. |
just started 1984, and before that I was reading Magic Kingdom For Sale by Terry Brooks
|
The years of rice and salt by kim stanley robinson. An interesting alternate history book. The premise is "what if the black death killed 99% of the population of europe instead of 33%".
|
I just finished Goblet of Fire. It's time for some heavy reading again. Some philosophy, perhaps. Or I could take another futile hack at Ulysses. That book makes my head spin.
|
i got the audio book for goblet of fire. i need to get around to putting it on, thanks for reminding me :P
|
Dark Tower VI: Song of Susannah
|
Open by John Feinstein.
|
new book by David Sedaris...
|
right now I'm reading The Dark Tower Book Six: Song of Susannah by Stephen King.
I really love the Dark Tower series (just one more book... sniff) |
I'm finding "Eyes of the Dragon" to be an extraordinarily slow read, especially on the tail of reading "Song of Susannah", which I finished in 3 days.
|
Just finished: Dean Koontz, "Identity" - very different, how the lives of perfect strangers become entertwined
Finishing: Stephen King, "From a Buick 8" - Quite different for a King book |
was reading the Keep, and The Bourne Supremecy (the origianal one, not the one based on the movie).
|
Just finished "The Sparrow" by Mary Doria Russell
|
stevenson's The Master of Ballantrae. I found a copy from 1917 in the attic.
|
I'm reading TH White's The Once and Future King. It just happens to be about arthur and his legends. I didn't read it because of the movie. So far I really like it though.
|

The World According to Garp by John Irving
|
princess in the spotlight by meg cabot
just finished the princess diaries by meg cabot and before that kurt angles bio |
I'm reading -- The Five People You Meet In Heaven. . . and its really interesting. Not all religious, really. It's more about the meaning of a man's life.. and how people close to him or strangers in his life tell him what his life means.. or give him answers/understanding to things he didn't see or know before...
I like it. I want to read The Davinci Code next. |
"Insomnia" by Stephen King. I hear there are a lot of ties to "The Dark Tower" books, so I thought it would be a good title to tie me over until the final "Tower" book comes out this winter.

"Angels and Demons" by Dan Brown.
|
Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins
People love Tom Robbins because they can get all into analyzing him or whatever. I love Tom Robbins because he's funny, intelligent, and I feel good while I'm reading him. That's good enough for me. |
Just finished reading The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks. Haven't seen the movie yet, but the book was very sad but good.
|
John Maxim's, "A Matter of Honor,"
This book was republished as "Bannerman's Promise" to keep the "Bannerman's..." thing going. John Maxim is a great writer. |
I'm on page 23.048 of 'my life' by Bill Clinton. And he's almost done in kindergarten.... I can't wait for another 40.000 pages on his college years!
|
War and Peace, Tolstoy. Something I have been meaning to read for a long time, and finally decided to do it.
|
I aborted my last read. "The years of rice and salt". Bored me to death.
Now I'm reading Red Storm Rising by Tom Clancy |
Have four in progress but the one getting most of my attention right now is "Swan Song", followed by "Pattern Recognition".

Even if it felt like nothing was happening, I loved the book. I thought the character development was great, and the dialog never felt too forced. I hope HBO does a good job on the movie. John C. Reilly would have been perfect for Miles...but Ed Harris is a decent decision. Anyway...right now I'm re-reading The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, and I, Robot. I've read the entire HHGTTG series many times, but it's been about five years, so I decided it was time again. I first read I, Robot in 10th grade, and I gotta tell you, it doesn't hold up so well to my adult mind. I decided to re-read it because I didn't recognize a damn thing from the book in the movie previews. I'm guessing they just bastardized one of the short stories and lifted the name. I guess I'll find out when it hits DVD or HBO. |
S.M. Stirling, "The Ship Avenged" (Home)

nice read powerclown!
I just started Rise to Rebellion by Jeff Shaara just finished Something Like an Autobiography by Akira Kuwosara - really enjoyed this book, more for his personal opinions than the stories he has to tell. |

|
Sacrifice by Clyde Phillips
|
John Maxim's "Bannerman's Law" (on the bus)
BTW, I finished the Donaldson's first Gap Cycle book. It was okay and filled the time. I don't think it is a raver, though. For some truly twisted plots, try on W. Michael Gear's Spider triolgy (Warriors of Spider, Web of Spider, Way of Spider) or his Forbidden Border's triolgy (Brain dead this morning, I can't think ofthe titles). |
tropple, The Real Story is just the intro book. It's short and direct to get people in. The series builds quite well. If you've got the time, it's worth it.
|
Thanks, Kadath.
I hope the remainder is more involved. I picked up all of them except for #2 (sold out in two stores) last weekend. Chris Bunch's Risk Inc.: "The Doublecross Program" (at home) |
Under the Banner of Heaven by Jon Krakauer
|
tropple...even though a friend of mine managed to read the Gap series and missing one book i wouldnt recommend it. :) Get the second book too..
The whole series is one helluva rollercoaster ride.. Reading Robert Holdstocks Lavondyss atm, (my favorite fantasy novel ) |
Having misplaced my copy of Jitterbug, I am now reading Timequake by Vonnegut. It is depressing.

Also, at the same time (read: instead of) A Place to Call Home by Gabrielle Wills: a local writer from Lindsay, Ontario.... Amazing book for a first time author... very hard to find but worth it, if you're interested in historical fiction.
