The Matrix 4: "It will never happen"
http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/art-m...28/12.00.games
9:00am ET, 28-October-03 New Matrix Games Possible Joel Silver, producer of the Matrix movies, told reporters that there won't be a fourth film after the upcoming Matrix Revolutions, but that there may be more games set in the Matrix universe. At a news conference Oct. 27 in Los Angeles' new Disney Concert Hall, Silver responded to a question from SCI FI Wire about a possible new Matrix movie: "It will never happen." But asked about other future Matrix projects, Silver revealed, "We're dealing with all that now. There is a project being worked on with a company called Ubi Soft, which is outside of Seattle, which is a multiplayer online game that in fact may become available as early as this summer, which will continue on the story of the world of The Matrix." Silver added that Jada Pinkett Smith's character, Niobe, may figure in the game, as might Laurence Fishburne's Morpheus. "But we're just working on that now," he said. Silver added that there is talk about doing another video game, beyond the current hit Enter the Matrix. "There's a moment in [The Matrix Revolutions], when Seraph [Collin Chou] comes in with Neo [Keanu Reeves] and Trinity [Carrie-Anne Moss] and Morpheus, and the Merovingian [Lambert Wilson] says to him, 'Oh, the prodigal son returns.' And the boys [writers/directors Larry and Andy Wachowski] wanted to kind of explore that backstory. So that may be something that they deal with in a video game. But there will be other areas of Matrix material, but there will not be any more movies." The Matrix Revolutions, which wraps up the trilogy, opens worldwide on Nov. 5. |

Wow, what an extremely well-written article!
Believe me, Hollyweird will find some way to make another Matrix movie. It's just too popular with the fans and it makes too much money to totally abandon it. If anything, they could expand on some of the stories in The Animatrix.

I just saw the Animatrix a few days ago and am playing enter the matrix right now. You learn a lot of backstory about the matrix and some of the characters through both, and I believe there is a lot more that can be explored after the third enstallment comes out.
A MMORPG based in the matrix might be interesting.

I like how they played Animatrix into the Second Matrix film with that kid... Who's name I forget, follows Neo around and Bugs him.
Does anyone else know what I'm talking about? Maybe I'll just be quiet.

I watched Reloaded first, then Animatrix, so it didn't mean anything to me and I was wondering who the fark he was. Now I know. (and knowing is half the battle. Yo, Joe!!)

Well I'm not quite sure where they could go after matrix revolutions - i guess we'll know after we've seen it. But they could have movies on the lead up to the original matrix movie. Turn some of those animatrix shorts into actual movies I guess.

I saw the first Matrix and enjoyed it, but not so much that I'm going to follow three different media (movies, anime, games) in order to understand the storyline. That is just too much effort for me these days.

I really don't think they should make another movie, because I don't think anyone would see it because of all the recent bad hype on revolutions, and it might be looked at like another Batman movie, and god I don't want that to happen.
Of course, the game wasn't so popular either.... note: I loved the series.

There is TONS of potential for more animatrix shorts.
The great thing about revolutions is that it didn't wrap everything up into a nice tidy package. There's plenty of loose ends which could be explored more fully. They don't have to occur after Revolutions. There is lots to explore in the time before then. One area which has great potential is the Merovengian and his whole "Matrix underground" and also his relationship with seraph. I love the Merovengian. One of the best characters in the matrix universe. Another Matrix game would be nice. They didn't quite pull it off in Enter The Matrix, but there is great potential for a good matrix game. (it will have its work cut out for it, considering the massive prejudice it would come against after the first game). (and yes I am aware of the irony of the fact that I just stated that "the great thing about revolutions" is the exact same reason that so many people hated it)

Well when I saw Revolutions, all the things I didn't understand I recognized/ assumed to be part of a story / plot that doesn't involve the 3 movies. And although I would love to see more animatrix, I would hate for Collin Chou to be animated.

I would LOVE a good Matrix videogame. It would be good for the franchise after Enter the Matrix. Ha ha, they should just get EA to do it since they know how to do everything else. -Lasereth

Remember, the movies we saw were the 6th version of the matrix. I wouldn't be surprised if we see movies / cartoons / videogames / books / comics / happy meal toys based on one of the first 5 versions. To quote Smith "It is inevitable". Plenty of milk left in this cash cow.
