The Bully - What the Hell was that all about?

Okay, I just watched The Bully on HBO and am completely depressed and slightly disoriented. Is this one of those, "You gotta be drunk or high to enjoy" movies?

Anyone seen it? If so, what did you think about it?

It's "Bully" and it is great. I love in your face type movies. Larry Clark directed this so it is just as raw and brutal as his "Kids". His movies show 'how it is', unaffected by Hollywood.

I'm not sure it is a movie that is supposed to be enjoyed as much as experienced.

Seeing Bijou Phillips nekkid certainly justified my HBO subscription for a few more years.

I rented this a while ago, I thought it was a pretty crazy movie. I remember turning the movie off part-way through just to have a sanity break. It was the part where one of the girls was talking about something bad that had happened a while ago, I don't remember what the bad thing was, just that it kinda gave me a bad feeling.

Oh, and sex, sex, sex!

I accepted the nudity in Kids as central to the message and theme of the storyline, but dang, the nudity in Bully was downright gratuitous.

Dirty-Old-Man-ish, if you ask me.

On the DVD you can watch the making of the movie, and it includes Larry Clark looking old.

scene from the movie, for no reason:

scene of Bijou Phillips when she is not naked:

A photo of the old man:

I was reading about him a little bit on the internet, I learned that he made a photo book of his friends having sex and using drugs back the the 60s or something like that, and it influenced Martin Scorcese making "Taxi Driver." So, he may be old, but if he influenced "Taxi Driver" then he is cool.

*edit-won't link to Bijou Philips image! Sorry. It was a pretty sleazy pic, too.

It was really disturbing but somehow I couldn't quit watching it. It was such a good movie, too bad very few people actually enjoyed it.

I'm.....not sure WHAT I felt about this movie. I caught the last hour or so of it one evening when nothing was on. It's....disturbing to say the least. The credits were excellently done with no music for awhile. Provided a great opportunity to take it all in if you will. And I was still pretty speechless for probably another 45 minutes after it ended. So disturbing.

And, h2ogo69, maybe you're not aware that the movie is based on a true story. I would hope knowing that you wouldn't say that guy deserved what he got. He may have been an asshole, but he certainly didn't deserve to be murdered by a bunch of drugged up losers.

I've never seen Kids but I remember all the controversy when it came out. Perhaps I'll have to check it out.

What' really disturbing is that this movie is based on a true story. A book actually, about what those kids did down in South Florida.

Bully was such an awesome movie, I like the way it was directed, it just put everything out there and didn't hold back. Teenagers, sex, drugs, violence, just makes you open your eyes to whats really out there. If you liked Bully try Kids and Gummo, those are great too.
