The Professional
What did you all think of The Professional or 'Leon' as it was released in some parts of the world.
I really like it. It was an unusual movie, just about the relationship between a small girl and a hitman- but i think it was well told. That last battle scene is awesome. Leon really fucks some shit up, when he is hiding up near the ceiling. |

It was a good movie. Acting was good. Story was good. Action was good. It was a little unusual though. Leon was truly one bad ass hitman.

'Leon' is one of Luc Besson's finest films. It had to be cut for American audiences, obviously, but it really showed a good dramatic story with plenty of cool gunplay.

It's been a very long time since I've seen it, but I'd definately like to see it again. If I recall correctly, I think I enjoyed it.

Really is a good movie, for any avid movie goer, i really recommend the Uncut International version "Leon". Shows much more character development, and you can really get a better feel for Leon and Mattilda. Though at times the movie can make you feel somewhat...akward, its still a great watch, and the ending scene with Leon is simply...rewarding.
Highly recommended! |

GREAT movie. It was way back then, with her little femme-fatale haircut, that I developed a crush on Natalie. The only thing that bugs me about it, is how everyone refers to Leon as an Italian guy, and Jean Reno is as obviously French as it gets. I guess in Europe it doesn't get to people that much...

Good movie. I'm not a fan of symbolism but I thought the plant Leon took care made his character more humane. The relationship with Matilda was weird at times but it never seemed too inappropriate. I think he felt like a father figure but he just didn't know how to handle himself.

I thought it was very good. Not one of the mindless typical Hollywood stuff that comes out these days.
The relationship between Leon and the girl is almost disgusting at first (because he kinda seems like a pedophile, or is set up to be labeled as one) but by the end you realise he was just trying to be a father as best as he could. And that part with the paintball sniper rifle was hilarious! |

It's one of my favorite movies ever. Watched it almost a decade ago, and didn't realize till recently that Mathilda was played by Natalie Portman. Incredible. well.... i think she was better in this show than any of the star wars movies.. lol..
there were some great action sequences in this movie. Almost poetic... |

I fell in love with Mathilda.. (I was close to the same age so nothing wrong with that) Loved her ever since...
I watch it everytime I see it on tv, which is getting more rare. Jean Reno is cool and I watch most of his movies but leon is the best.

There's two versions of it availble in the US on DVD. The Professional which is the US cut, and Leon, which is the european cut. the european cut adds a lot to the movie. More into his realtionship with mathilda and Leon's history, why he came to the US.
If you like the movie you need to so the European cut. |

This is one kick ass film...
Yes the relationship between Leon and Mathilda is odd but not all that odd when you realize that Leon is essentially a child himself. Never do you feel sex between the two. It's more an us against them kind of vibe or some sort of domesticity. For me Mathilda represents the first real friendship Leon has ever had. and damn... Gary "everyyyyyoneeeee" Oldman can chew up the scenery...

This movie is one of my favorites. It has that unusual style that I always look for in movies.
A 12-year-old smoking cigs, her daddy blown away by a drug dealer... a hitman (especially one with the demeanor that Jean Reno's character puts on) of all things takes her in. And he learns things from her too! The scene of them walking on the street after Mathilda's family is killed... that is a classic, my friends. Personally, Gary Oldman's character wasn't that important in the movie.

Loved "The Professional", but the 15 minutes during which you see Jean Reno as "Victor the Cleaner" in "La Femme Nikita" equivalates to his bad-assness in this entire movie.
