Garden State
10/10 Ranks in the top 5 movies I've ever seen. There's a few lines in the movie where it says "... changed my life" this movie changed my life. |
Saw Dodgeball a few days ago. It was a decent comedy, pretty cheesy, but a couple of good funny parts. 3/5
|
So, I just saw Pretty Woman for the first time last night, grudgingly. Its.. the best "chick flick" I've ever seen. I really enjoyed this movie. Maybe its because I'm a Julia Roberts fan and didn't even know it.. the other chick flick I used to like was My Best Friend's Wedding. Pretty Woman is a great movie. 9.2

Super Size Me 9/10
Really interesting stuff, and quite entertaining as well. I didn't find it as gross as some people did, though. I knew fast food was bad for me, and this film may push me to the point where I might stop eating it. The part comparing heroin and ham was my favorite, definately the high point of the film. |
Dodgeball was not anywhere near as funny as it was promoted to be and all the previews showed the funny parts. 2/5 stars.

Life Aquatic - 5/10
Count me as one of those who didn't get it. I didn't like it much. I thought it was one of Murray's worst movies. The main actors seemed to think they were in some kind of revolutionary movie, that everthing they did and said was just so sublimely hilarious. Owen Wilson makes my skin crawl, Anjelica Huston slept-walk through the movie, William Dafoe was ok, Murray was dull and boring. It was a great idea to try and spoof the life and times of Jacques Cousteau (I watched his underwater wildlife series as a kid), but it wasn't funny or authentic. Painful to sit through. |
Lemony Snicket's: A Series of Unfortunate Events.
6/10 I enjoyed the middle of the movie the most, where it was grittier and less kid like. The ending was so saccharine it made my teeth itch. It wasn't as supernatural as I had hoped, which I was expecting because of the trailer. Hogansgoat hated the movie. I'm guessing he felt it was bad enough to deserve some sort of penance for dragging him to the movie, because he farted continuously in the theatre and the car ride and while chilling at my house after the movie. If you know Hogansgoat, then you know what that means. |
"Gangs of New York" Reminded me of one of my favorite novels Winter's Tale by Mark Helprin. Saw the ceiling of Grand Central Station last week which also helped. Anyone else read it?
|
Collateral - Nothing very original. Taxi guy gets "kidnapped" and is forced to make rounds w/ a hitman. Nothing special. Wasn't horrible, but... there really wasn't a point to any of it.
For as non-fictional as this tried to be, there was simply too many "yeah.. right" parts (you know.. "oh, wow, what a coincidence. Right place at the right time.") Spoiler: Sorry, but if you flip a car going 60/70 miles per hour, you aren't gonna fuckin live and just up & walk away.. especially without a seat belt - I don't care who ya are. Not to mention the "gee, had you not shot that guy and waited JUST ONE SECOND I would've been dead." Horrible. Not much action, very simple story. 2.5/5 |
Just saw White Noise. It was decent, not too scary really. Until the last 10-15 minutes - They sucked more than I can possibly describe. Kinda ruined the movie, actually.
But I love Batman, so 7/10 |
Julia Roberts is SO overated. And those fake lips she now sports are butt ugly. Pretty Woman was her last decent flick IMHO. She's never been a great actress, either BTW.
|
Finally watched The Village last night.
I'm a big fan of Shyamalan's films, and I'm usually no good at figuring out plot twists, but this one was a big disappointment. I spotted the two twists ahead of time, and the characters were unenagaging. The one thing I will say is that the design on those we do not speak of was superb. I'm getting chills just thinking about it. Bottom line: 2/5. I hope his next one is better, as the last two have been disappointing |

Shawn of the Dead... most cleverly funny movie I have seen in ages. Definately not everyone's cup of tea but if you love zombie movies or love British humour this is worth checking out...
|
kids
harmony korine wrote it. i am not sure what to make of him. interesting film--i really did not enjoy hanging out with the collection of young sociopaths that wandered in and out of the film--which means, i suppose, that it is a good film, for what it is doing. interesting hallucinatory sequences in a nightclub, however. |
Finding Neverland
great movie 5/5 Depp plays a very very good role |
'Closer'
Brilliant study into human relationships. Natalie Portman is wonderful, as is Clive Owens. 4/5 |
Memento for the second time
freakin amazing both times, and i noticed a bunch of subtleties the second. 5/5 |
Lost In Translation
Good movie but not as good as I thought it'd be. Maybe I need to watch it again to really appreciate it. For now.. 8/10. |
"The Last Temptation of Christ" - 6/10
Pretty weak for a Scorsese flick. Willem DeFoe was really good, but what was up with casting Harvey Keitel as Judas? He was like a young Mel Brooks or something. Very strange. Overall, a disappointment. |
Garden State 9/10
That was one of the best movies I've ever seen. Zack Graff is either incredibly talented or he just dumped all his skill in one shot. Natalie Portman is a REALLY good actor, and I never really thought about it, but she's very affecting in several movies I really enjoy, such as The Professional, Heat, Beautiful Girls, this... |
Clockwork Orange 8/10 I love Kubrick and this is one messed up movie.
|
A Very Long Engagement.
Although the plot was a bit cliched, I still have to love how Jeunet visualizes things. The contrast between wartorn trenches and softly yellow french countryside was astounding. The movie is probably a school example of a proper way of using computer generated special effects. 8 / 10. |
Twilight Samurai.
Wow! After a long and disappointing summer at the cinemas, with a few notable standouts and a lot of dross, this was definitely one of the defining films of the season for me. A truly profound cinematic experience, I found myself deeply moved while I was viewing it, and for some time after. |
They Live - 7/10
Man, Roddy Piper cannot act. But since he spends the first half of the movie with his mouth shut, and Keith David is a decent actor (and one of my favorites), I can let that bit go. And money that says "This is your God" goes a long way. A fine film. |
24 Hour Party People - Great movie. Alot of fun. Cool editing, good acting. Good music.

my girlfriend and i have been going through the entire sex and the city collection the past couple months. we just finished the last episode yesterday and i must say, i enjoyed it more than i expected. of course there were moments where i wanted to cringe or roll my eyes, but hey... i'm a straight male. :)
overall, i give it an 8.5/10. |
Million Dollar Baby
Great film. Wonderfully acted, good story, surprising ending. I don't want to give it away to anyone who hasn't seen it, but I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to see a good movie. |
shaun of the dead- 7 out of 10.
a good movie, but there is nothing ground breaking here. Enjoyable! |
The Sweetest Thing - surprisingly funny. 8/10
|
Boogyman
6.5/10 Plenty scary when it comes to quiet moments followed by extremely loud scary sounds and other common horror effects. The story was decent but I felt the use of these horror effects were pretty lame. Every time you think you might be scared (IE a guy slowly opens a door and a cat jumps in his face style...), sure enough, the volume gets jacked up and something shocking happens. Beyond this though, I enjoyed the acting and was entertained. Kids in the Hall: Brain Candy 9.2/10 Still one of my favorites :) |
Garden State - 5/10
Nothing spectacular, boring at times. Story was just OK. Zach Braff should stick with scrubs, he is spectacular in that. Film making might not be his thing... |
I saw Steamboat Bill, Jr. on Saturday night.
A great silent movie starring Buster Keaton. Hilarious movie, great stunts and special effects. 10/10 |
Love Actually. I've meant to watch this one for a while and last night I finally did. I knew it'd be good and it was great. It's nice every now and then to watch a movie that just makes you feel good, and this is one of those films. Great script, great actors, funny and very romantic. Not your typical romantic comedy, but a wonderful and original one. 10/10.
|
I was watching Kung Pow: Enter the Fist on TV cause I was wasting time.
I give that movie a 0/10. It was so horrible.... |
I watched The Forgotten the other day. Terribly pointless movie
|
Dummy, starring Adrien Brody and Milla Jovovich. Made in 2002.
I had never heard anything about this movie but I saw it was listed under comedies while I was looking for something to watch. The movie wasn't great... but it was pretty well done. The way the film was shot led me to think it was a movie from back in the mid/early 90's but I actually think that was just the look they were aiming for. Certainly worth a look if you see that its on. 7/10 |
Tokyo Monogatari - Yashujiro Ozu.
Ever had to fight back tears in a crowded library? This is seriously, one of THE defining cinematic experiences of my young life. Masterpiece. |
Hitch
8/10 had a lot of funny moments. a light, enjoyable movie, but nothing groundbreaking. |
