Ran - 7/10
A definite notch down from others such as "Throne of Blood" and "Seven Samurai". This is a gory, bloody movie; unfortunately, the blood is so fake looking that its more distracting than compelling. Think: the color of the cherry topping they put on ice cream. Its way off. The storyline is here, the acting is here, the cinematography is somewhat here, but something is missing and Im still not sure what. The battle scenes don't seem as full of drama or awe or granduer, the characters aren't definitely not as well fleshed out and alive. The Lower Depths - 8.5/10 An excellent movie. 99% is shot in one location: the interior of a hay-floor slum/tenement room. Simply a collection of everyday ramblings, arguments, lamentations, wishes, complaints, romances, gossiping, grumbling, joking, etc. from the small group living inside, plus the late arrival of a mysterious, nomadic, wise and friendly old codger. About 30 minutes too long, but otherwise a great movie. Surprised by this one. |
I don't remember what I saw last. Secret Window wasn't that bad. Predictable though.
|
Saw....I'd give it a 6 overall with a 4 on acting (terrible) Wait for the dvd.

8/10 Some scenes were a bit sappy but overall I think it's a brilliant japanese action/sci-fi movie with a great plot, awesome fight scenes and spiffy camera angles. Not to mention that the lead actor is hot as well  |
Dawn of the Dead... 10. Fucking great flick.
|
Scary Movie 3.
6/10. It's corny as hell but I still couldn't stop laughing |
Spun:
8/10 Very interesting movie. Not too much of a plot but in a good way. The characters were helarious. Saw: 4.5/10 Horrid horrid acting. Almost unbareable to watch at times because you aren't sure if the actors are trying to be funny or not because their acting is so off (Well at least that guy from The Princess Bride...) Also, the screenplay is pretty lame overall in my mind. It's a movie that's really hard to follow because of various subplots and such. While this type of strategy is great for a movie like Momento where the viewer is supposed to feel disoriented in hopes to connect them to the man with amnesia, I feel that Saw was confusing simply because the plot wasn't all that deep and the creators wanted to make up for it by making it hard to understand. Bad strategy in my mind. I'm still yet to work it all out, and to be honest, I don't really care to by now. |
The Corporation
10/10 Amazing eye-opening documentary. A must see for all Americans. Do you know what a corporation actually is or how it functions? You may think you do, but probably not if you haven't seen this film. |

Spun: 9/10
I absolutely loved this movie, it was very weird but in a good way. I also loved the soundtrack especially Billy Corgans cover of 666 the number of the beast, I wish their was a soundtrack for it. Ju-On, The Grudge (the japanese version): 8/10 Dear god this movie scared the bejesus out of me, in the last scene I knew what was gonna happen but i couldn't looked away. I was at the edge of my seat with clench fist and when it happened I nearly crapped my pants, I had to turn the lights on and think about happy thoughts for like 2 hours before I could go to sleep. The Manchurian Candidate: 6/10 It was a reasonable film, i've never seen the original so I can't compare it. All in all I think it was a decent watch. I thought the plot was good and the acting was alright. |
Hero. My goodness, the most visually beautiful film I have seen all year. This being said, consumate costuming and set design, as well as cinematography, did not negate the film's inability to really be as good as it should have. Zhang Zhimou is still a fuckin legend for Raise the Red Lantern, but I just felt kind of underwhelmed by the whole experience. Above average still.

I'm going to shoot out a question, don't feel like making it a topic, but how would you all rate The Exorcist. I'm going to be watching it soon and am curious on your views.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind:
I really liked this movie. It's great to watch with a date. I had forgotten what it should feel like to really be in love. |
Hidalgo. Eh, I'd give it a 5/10. And yes, we watched it because my girl just loves Viggo.

Cutey Honey

Sideways. I'd give it a 9/10. I will say this: if there is any justice in the entertainment world, Paul Giamatti will be nominated for best actor. He's really coming into his own as a lead actor.

The Incredibles 8.5/10
Very good movie. I think anyone could enjoy it. Awesome animation and sound design and the plot wasn't super cheesy or anything. Definitely check it out in the theaters. |
The Stepford Wives (2004)
Stay away from this POS, especially if you've read the book. No, in fact, just stay away from it period. Really. And I could be said to be absolutely infatuated with Nicole Kidman. Yes kiddies, it's that bad. |
The last movie that I saw was Bend it like Beckham,
Not my type of movie, but my wife liked it. I'd give it a 6.5/10. |
The Incrediables
It was incrediable. Awesome moive. I actually did not want to see it because I think animations and pixar is stupid. But I have been converted. 2 tumbs up great for everyone. |
Lucky 7 Rated 8/10
Very good movie starring Patrick Dempsey and Kimberly Williams-Paisley. They both did great acting and girls Patrick is HOT.. The Lucky Seven was about a woman, Amy Meyer, whose mother died at when she was only 7. Before she dies, she makes a timeline of Amy's life. Amy takes the timeline and follows it exactly. Her mother's timeline shows that she will have 6 boyfriends and then the 7th one will be "the one". So far, everything on the timeline has worked perfectly for Amy. She finally meets a guy, Daniel, that is absolutely perfect for her, but he's only number 6. She then seeks out a temporary number 6, the bagel man, Peter(dempsey). He takes her to a friend's wedding on an island and pretends that she is his girlfriend. He shows her how to be spontaneous and tries to show her how to be free and not so restricted to the timeline. She is soon caught up in between the two and tries to decide who she is really in love with. |
CQ
I would rate it 9/10. Directed by Roman Coppola (Francis's son). Very interesting but probably recomended to real movie buffs (film festival types). It has elements of an artistic French film and of a zanier Woody Allen comedy. Very stylish. Plenty of groovy tunes, too. |
the stepford wives
6/10 i enjoyed it, i thought it was cute...but the continuity was off...were they robots or not?...lol |
The Spongebob movie gets a 6-7/10. If you're a fan of the cartoon, you'll enjoy it. There were a lot of funny parts in the movie, and it was just a lot of fun. I was dissapointed with the ending, however. It just felt a bit anticlimactic, compared to all the madness that happened along the way.
|
i agree, cq is a pretty good movie.
just saw touching the void, very good as well... 4.25 / 5 it's a mountain climbing movie "based on a true story" actually has some meaning here; the incredible story is faithfully reenacted as the climbers narrate also saw american spendor to prep for whenever i can see sideways another "true story," reenacted as the real people narrate this time it's an associate of r. crumb who makes comics about the oddities of daily life 3.75 / 5 |
Open Range (rented on video).
Directed by Kevin Costner. Starring Kevin Costner and Robert Duvall. I enjoyed it. It was about 2.5 hours long, but I didn't feel the length at any point in the movie, except near the absolute end. As would be expected, it's a Western epic, and this one focuses on Costner and Duvall, who are freegrazers. In order to avoid ruining anything (I probably wouldn't, but I'm also lazy), they go on a mission of justice and/or revenge, and a shootout ensues. I'm not a very big Costner fan, but his acting is decent, and he does some pretty badass laying out of the bad guys. Duvall is good as well. I was also amused because of the use of terms like "yonder" and "nigh on". Not as good as Dances With Wolves, but at least I didn't have to see Costner's ass in this one. 7.5/10 |
White Chicks 7.5 out of 10
This was one of those moneys my girlfriend wanted to go see but I didn't want to waste money cause it looked stupid. Well we rented it the other day and I was surprised at how funny it was to me. Maybe it was the couple of beers I drank but I really really enjoyed it considering how against I was towards watching it. A entertaining comedy. |
Just saw the Incredibles and had a great time...the storyline was interesting and fun, the characters were great...could have used a little more humor...8/10

National Treasure - 9/10
A really good movie. I wasn't sure what to expect given the PG rating, but I was pleasantly suprised. The dialog was a bit cheesy at times, and sometimes the plot lines were a bit unbelievable, but other than that it wasn't all that bad. |
I saw "Dogville" on the weekend, and I would very much like to talk with any who have seen this film. It was directed by Lars Von Trier, I think, and stars Nicole Kidman, Paul Bettany and a few other notables.
This film was unlike any I'd seen before. It was my first Lars Von Trier film. It was set on a stage. It was very much like watching a staged play on film. The aspect I liked about this the most is that it made the performances of the actors much more raw and unhindered. There was no music or special effects in the film. It's success was predicated on the depth of the script and the acting. At this point I haven't decided if I liked the film or not. But one thing is clear - I haven't stopped thinking about it since I rented it on Saturday. I'm positive there's more to this film in terms of theme than 'do unto others as you'd have them do to you'. Is it a biopic on society at large? American rural society? I'd love some feedback from those that have seen this film. I'm going to go over to www.movieforums.com to see what they thought as well... ?/10 |
The Incredibles
9/10 - One of the funniest, and best, superhero movies I have ever seen. I was smiling and laughing from start to finish. It was a movie that knew all the classic cheese in comic (for example the villain monologue...) and made them fresh. Plus, smart goons! How many times have we seen these? Not a helluva lot. |

At least Trier pointed a finger at USA with Dogville (he has been called an anti-american due his feats) but to me Dogville appeared to be universal - how people don't care anymore and nothing is ever enough. And of course very much of Dogville is loaned from Brechtian (Bertoldt Brecht) playwriting style, where actors in a fact don't try to be like they were impersonating the role, but they directly show that they are indeed acting. Just as the scenery in Dogville doesn't try to be a realistic rendition of nature - but indeed is just plain chalk lines drawn on the floor. Just writing this makes me want to see it again, it's indeed 10/10 movie. By the way, has anyone seen the new Won Kar Wai movie 2046? I'd be more than happy to hear some non-spoiler comments about it. |
