Dawn of the Dead (3 and a half out of 5)

Personally i love any post-apocalyptic movies especially with zombies, and this movie stayed true enough to the earlier 'Day of the Dead' to be considered a fine example of the flesh-eating genre. Lots of thrills, spills and genuinely sick moments to keep you chuckling or shaking...

Shaun of the Dead (5 out of 5)!
A brilliant spoof on the genre and funny pretty much all the way through...

Why not watch them back to back..?

grendel 10-19-2004 08:34 AM

man, i can't wait to see Shaun of the Dead. just haven't taken the time to do it yet.

viper11885 10-19-2004 10:56 PM

Saw The Bourne Supremecy this past weekend.

Great movie. Enjoyed it a lot more compared to the first one. The last chase scene was awesome. It was kind of crazy how Maria died so early in the film. Actually, I was quite shocked to see this.

Don't want to spoil it too much. This is a great action film and should definately at least be rented to watch.

Can't wait for the 3rd one!

avhg1 10-19-2004 11:14 PM

I saw the first 1/2 hour or so of Saw. I've got to see the rest. It's very freaky.

screamincheetah 10-20-2004 07:37 AM

Let's see the last two NETFLIX movies I've seen .........

HIDALGO = 2 out of 5 I'm not sure I was expecting too much, so it wasn't a let down. It was entertaining, but just not a lot to it. It's just alright.

KILL BILL 2 = 4 out of 5 I thought the movie, while not as good as the first, was still very well done. The first is more about the action and the second is more about the character development which fleshed out the movie and made it complete. Definitely worth seeing. Very Good.

High & Low - 8/10

A non-samurai Kurosawa film - the first one for me. A poor boy, mistaken for the son of a rich man, is kidnapped and held for ransom. Does the rich man pay the ransom of the son of his chauffeur and suffer financial ruin, or save the boy's life? Fine acting, interesting plot, played out in film-noir style. Solid performance as ever by the rampaging Toshiro Mifune.

Ghost in the Shell

Ghost in the Shell **

I'm not really to much of an anime fan but I figured I would give it a shot because it's gotten so many good reviews and I don't really like singling out certain genre types as being bad. But I really wasn't impressed, I understood the significance of everything and all but the story didn't really go to far. I give it two stars because I think they could have taken it a lot further. There was real potential in it but it just wasn't realized.

hoobajoo 10-21-2004 12:33 PM

Shark Tale

It didn't get great reviews on IMDB or Rotten Tomatoes but I enjoyed it a lot. It was very entertaining and funny.

lukethebandgeek 10-21-2004 12:44 PM

The Dreamers. I'd give it an 8 out of 10. Quality movie.

aliali 10-21-2004 12:51 PM

Friday night lights.

Very, very good. Billy Bob's "Can you be perfect" one of the best sports speeches ever. As good as Hoosiers.

kevin100 10-21-2004 02:14 PM

Just saw the Butterfly Effect on a flight from Las Vegas. It was great. Not particularly artistic, but engrossing and thought-provoking. Have been thinking about it since I saw it. 8 out of 10.

hotzot 10-21-2004 06:28 PM

ladder 49 7 out of 10 , Team America 8 out of 10 both great movies.

Chingal0 10-21-2004 08:18 PM

Where the Buffalo Roam - 4/5

Excellent movie, Bill Murray is an excellent actor and it shows. The story is quite weird, but funny as hell.

trickyy 10-21-2004 09:40 PM

metropolis 4.5/5

i really liked this movie. actually i think it's the best silent film i've ever seen.
the melodramatic acting was never too hyper
fritz lang's 2026 looks shockingly similar to cities of today, except for the biplanes and model t's. the special effects were great.
too bad some of the film was lost forever. i guess it just adds to the mystique.

pottsynz 10-21-2004 11:15 PM

Cruel Intentions 2 [2 out of 5]

Ok, its really a tv pilot reworked into a tv movie.
Crap, but funny...and what else was I gonna do at 1 in the morning?
Gets a 2 for the hot chickies.

Kadath 10-22-2004 05:35 AM

Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn

Somehow I had seen Evil Dead 1 and Army of Darkness but not ED2. It's what I expected, a better funded version of Evil Dead. 4/5, with special kudos for making me laugh so hard I cried while Ash has his girlfriend's disembodied head latched to his hand and is smashing it against things to try and get it off.

Jadedfox 10-22-2004 05:40 AM

Wicker Park

2/5

I was hoping for a more thriller experience but it was really mostly romantic drama. In the end a very unfulfilling movie.

roachboy 10-22-2004 07:59 AM

true romance

i saw this film when it came out and then again last night.
it confirmed my general attitude toward tarantino.
i really did not like the film. i really really did not like the writing.
i would have let it go had tarantino's dialogue not been compared to "elizabethan drama" in the special features.
so it is crap that has no idea it is crap.

trickyy 10-24-2004 11:25 AM

elephant 3.5/5

very interesting tracking shot setup in this movie
these long cuts reminded me of russian ark
shot at a high school using "non-actors"
starts slowly but i enjoyed the overall attempt to do something unique

thisGuyIsCool 10-25-2004 04:06 PM

day after tomorrow 7.5

i gave it a high score because i actually enjoyed it and a lot of shit happened. there weren't really any slow parts but the ending was TERRIBLE. A lot of movies have bad endings though, it's just hard to put a good one together.

joeyaz 10-25-2004 04:44 PM

Seen The Grudge on Friday. It was entertaining, not terribly original but I came away pretty entertained and more than a few moments that made me and my girlfriend jump.

I always feel some movies are made better by watching it in a theater with a big crowd at home this movie wouldn't give me quite the same experience.

I agree, and understand why so much of it was just not plausable scientifically. That said it was just a cool flick to watch, very visually entertaining, even though the actors in it were more props then anything/

Ultimate_Gohan 10-25-2004 05:32 PM

Ghost in the Shell 2

Its anime but it went to the theaters. Its a long movie for anime and I saw it inspite of the lack luster first ghost in the shell. But this one was advertised and looked good and it really is good. It has a nice blend of 3d and standard animation and the plot has a blade runner feel to it.

powerclown 10-25-2004 06:15 PM

Stray Dog - 5/10

Akira Kurosawa's first US release film ('63) that didn't do anything for me. Besides the interest in seeing a 28 year old Toshiro Mifune, and his long time co-star Takashi Shimura, its a pretty thin and watery film. Skip it unless your a diehard fan or filmography student.

Disco Stu 10-25-2004 10:17 PM

I Saw "The Grudge" with Sarah Michelle Gellar last night. Scarred the hell out of me. It was well done. Very suspensful. Damn good movie. I give it   .

9/10
Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind

This movie is funny, and satisfying. Satisfying, when you figure out what the fuck is going on.

bundy 10-26-2004 01:20 AM

Collateral ... 8/10 ... Michael Mann makes slick flicks. he even made that shit eater Cruise seem passable.

Resident Evil : Apocalypse ... 8/10 ... this film doesn't really deserve that mark, but i did grow up playing those games, so its lots of fun to see it all put together.

Siccx 10-26-2004 02:29 AM

Commando 10/10

They don't make them like this anymore. Commando is the perfect movie, shoulda won a couple of dozen oscars too, lots of action, killing, and great one liners. It makes me some what pissed off that movies like this are no longer made, gone are the Robocops, Bloodsports, and Rambos of yesterday, replaced by pieces of crap touchy feely films. It's a good thing these movies are on DVD though. Commando is a must see, it's Arnold's best, right up there with Conan.

Grancey 10-26-2004 09:44 AM

Shall We Dance.....i'm so glad Richard Gere moved on from the "dying in the end phase". This was fair. Not great. But I expect a lot.
For me: 4/10
In comparison to other movies I have seen in the last few month: 6/10

minimedgirl 10-26-2004 02:57 PM

Hero

Beautiful choreography, incredibly stylistic, gorgeous colours....the definiation of "Eye candy". The plot is not so important, it's more of a concession to allow all the gorgeousness to unfold. See it if you just want to sit back and contemplate in the beauty....
10/10 for artistic impression
4/10 for plot

******************************

The Motorcycle Diaries
Great music, Great plot, adventure...mmkes you want to pike up your bike and go travelling. LIghter than i thought it would be given the subject material. (Although that was before he became the "CHE". ) Gael Bernal is AMAZING. the most beautiful expressive face i have seen in so long....
overall 7/10

The Amityville Horror
Was looking for a scary movie, this one did scare in some points, but mostly I thought it was psychological. Of course there were some scare you out of your seat parts, but it did scare me to think if the father would just go nuts.

Overall 6/10

Ydde 10-29-2004 08:56 AM

The New Police Story

Movie by Jackie Chan. Not sure if it's shown in US. It's his first movie in Hong Kong since going over to Hollywood.

Back to his usual ass kicking best. Great action, laughs, moves.

Not so great acting, but still passable.

8/10 overall

Ace_O_Spades 10-29-2004 11:08 PM

Saw

9/10

Fucked up, twists your mind into knots, gets minus points for showing tons of the good footage on the goddamn trailers

powerclown 10-30-2004 10:54 AM

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - 9/10

Jim Carrey is more than good in this one, and the chemistry between him and Kate Winslet is really something. Hilarious scene where the 2 are taking a bath in his mom's kitchen sink. Good supporting role for Kirsten Dunst, but Carrey & Winslet are amazing in this. Didn't know Carrey would (or could) be semi-serious onscreen with a woman. He brings his trademark sense of humor, but more mature, less obnoxious. Killer soundtrack, too.

edit: Even better the second time. Its really a powerful, emotional, lovely movie. Lots of charming details that are missed when 1) not picking up all the dialogue, 2) you get past the unlikely sci-fi premise, 3) in a cynical mood. Great offbeat romance.

Church 10-30-2004 09:25 PM

Saw

9/10 - Great movie. I loved the ending as well. I really didn't see that one coming. But ya, I agree with what said earlier, a lot of the good footage was shown in the trailer.

quicksteal 10-30-2004 09:33 PM

Team America: World Police
8/10

There were a lot of funny scenes, and Trey Parker and Matt Stone get their points across. I especially like the songs in the soundtrack. There were one or two scenes that went too far to be funny, but overall I really liked it.

grendel 10-31-2004 09:25 AM

Super Size Me

definitely entertaining and thought provoking. i'm not a super heavy user of fast food (as defined in the flick), but i do eat it fairly regularly... it's just so cheap and convenient when you don't have a lot of time for lunch. seeing this flick kinda makes me want to cut back on that a bit...

7/10

stbeston 10-31-2004 10:17 AM

primer

interesting low budget head fuck.
a story about time travel, sort of.
very inventive cinematography.
would recommend it even if only for the good conversations it will create with your friends afterwards.
i'm still sort of chilled by it.
out in ny. is it playing elsewhere?
