SNL

Is it just me or is this new season of Saturday night Live almost painful to watch. The season premier with Jack Black should of rocked but it flat out sucked. All the skits ended as if they ran out of script.

The second week was even worse.

SNL has been hurting for many years now. It should be ashamed to share the name of the hysterically funny SNL of the 70's and 80's.

snl has always had slumps. the early to mid eighties were almot solely supported by eddie murphy and the years were chris elliott and michael mckean were on(i like them they just were on bad seasons).
I think only the original cast run and the phil hartman era ere really good. some of the recent will ferrel stuff was alright but when he left it went all to hell. hopefully people like chris parnell, will forte, and amy poehler will get more screentime in the upcoming years.

I missed the Jack Black premier because I can't stand that guy. John Mayer too.

BUT - The Justin Timberlake episode was LEAGUES better than anything they put out last season (season 28). That was a horrible year for them.
- The Justing Timberlake show (show number 2: season 29) wasn't hysterically funny, but it WAS funny. Thats all that mattered. He ripped on Jessica Simpson, which was great. The punk'd thing was okay. Ashton Kutcher in any form is terrible to begin with, so he (the writing team) didn't have a lot to work with.

Show 3 - Halle Berry - ehhh, not that great. Funny at times. But... yeah... Nice to look at though

=====

Stand out members:
I agree with mattevil, mostly. Will Forte and Amy Poehler rocks. I also want more of Mya Rudolph

other standouts - Kenan (ALL THAT!) Thompson and Rachael Dratch.

And Horatio Sanz is a great supporting character player. It just seems that any time he is the lead player (aka the baseball sketch from last night, ug) he just fails miserably. I blame the material. It most likely isn't him, I just blame the material.

I thought the Justin Timberlake show was hilarious. He really suprised me. The Punk'd skit was so funny.

I didn't see the other two shows, but I heard Jack Black's wasn't funny at all.

I totally thought Justin TImberlake was hilarious. Totally surprised me at how natural he felt up there. Some pretty funny stuff, and I"m glad he didn't mind making fun of himself. Why would you have Halle Barry do comedy? Bad idea.

I thought the Justin Timberlake show was funny too. I laughed my ass off during the mascot skit. But, I thought the Jack Black show sucked. I was really disappointed. I missed this week's show with Halle Berry and Britney.

But, overall, SNL is not a show that I plan my weekend around, or go through the effort of recording if I know I'm not goign to see it anymore.

Much as I'd like to rag on Justin Timberlake, he was extremely funny on SNL last week.

And, as good of an actress as Halle Barry is, she has no comedic timing. The whole episode felt dead.

I don't think you can judge by seasons of SNL. I think it depends largely on who's hosting and what they'll put into it.

SNL goes through cycles of funny and unfunny and there will always be people saying "it wasn't as good as it was in the early 90s," or something similar, but back then, people were saying the exact same thing. For my money, the worst periods were the mid 80s cast (Anthony Michael Hall, Robert Downey Jr and co) and the mid 90s (after Dana Carvey, Phil Hartman and co. left).

I try to watch the new episodes as often as possible. Tivo has made it easier. So far, I agree with the others, the best episode has been Justin Timberlake. He seemed like he was really willing to go for it in each sketch, and his musical performances were really good also. Halle Berry was just terrible. She's just not right for live TV. And Britney was pitiful. Lip-synched her first number and then tried to sing the second, but she just doesn't have a good voice. Really. She's more pop icon than anything else.

If you're really interested in SNL, I highly, highly recommend Live From New York. I thought I knew a lot about SNL, but until I read this, I had no clue about how hard these people work each week to make us laugh.

I was really impressed with Justin during his musical numbers. The live band instead of a record was great. I'm sure a lot of people here don't like his style of music, but you have to admit that he is talented.

I've said this for that last few seasons...they HAVE to make more scenes for Tracy Morgan. He is hilarious.

And they need to have Tina Fey in a couple more skits. Anyone remember her as the Exotic Dancer/Balloon Lady for a kids party in Las Vegas? Not sure what it is about Tina Fey but

I've given up on SNL. I never watched the show regularly but would it has been hard ot watch the last few years. I prefer catching the old episodes on Comedy Central. Bill Murray, John Belushi, and Dan Aykroyd were the best. Noone can top Steve Martin as a host.

Is Chris Kattan off the show? I loved his Las Vegas lounge show skits from last year. They were always the last skit of the night, but they were too funny. Ray Romano, Christopher Walken and the guy from Hannibal were on them

Tina Fey is a top writer for the show. She only does the news with Jimmy Fallon. The two together make for the best news segment since the first season with Chevy Chase. And I agree, there's something about her... intelligent, funny, and cute!

Definitely. She is the main reason I watch the show. I usually quit watching after Weekend Update. I would love to see her in more skits. As for what it is about her, for me it's the glasses.

I hate to be one of those, "I agree with everything he said" posters, but this thread lets me know that there are others like me and I know I'm not crazy. I was prepared to really hate Justin Timberlake, but he was funny. I thought Halle Berry would be great, especially with Britney Spears on the week after Justin Timberlake, but it sucked. I have a crush on Tina Fey. Man, I'm not crazy!
I also loved Saturday TV fun house. Anyone else, or am I crazy after all.

Poor SNL. their lack of consistency as of late is very depressing. the justin timberlake one was good, but a few years back that kind of episode would have just been another good SNL episode where as sadly, that will probabaly be the best of the season. i was expecting loads more from the season premiere, because i absolutely love jack black, but alas it was crap . what the hell is it with some of the hosts looking offstage at cuecards every damn skit? i remember robert deniro and jack black off the top of my head, but i have seen more do it. whatever. i love tina fey as well, her smile is amazing. i dont think i can watch it anymore, its gotten too crappy since tracy morgan left.

he, loves animals and they love him back ... brian fellows brian fellows safari planet.
