Bad News Bears
I didnt realize they were remaking this until I saw a trailer for it the other nite.
Im betting it will flop....I just cant see this one being NEAR as good as the original. Walter Matthau and Tatum O'Neal were SUCH a good team. I cant see Billy Bob doing the role justice....but I could be wrong, I have a hard time watching any movie with him in it and not "seeing" him as hearing him as "karl" from sling blade (awesome movie IMO) Is anyone planning on seeing this? It comes out this weekend.

I won't see it - -but it looks kinda cute... however, the role of Mr Buttermaker was just a crotchety old man... Billy Bob seems like he'd be a dirty old man... not just a crank like Walter...
Though, one review I read, the girl in the movie, is not an actress but they actually found her playing baseball - she's supposed to be pretty good too.

I'll probably watch it on video unless it gets bad reviews. (I very rarely watch movies in the theater). I liked School of Rock. This remake is by the same director - Richard Linklater.
Regarding "Karl" - I've seen Billy Bob Thornton in so many movies. I no longer see him as "Karl". He seems to favor roles that require him to play a drunken idiot. |

Yeah, the previews show him being pretty 'wrong', but it looks funny... I'll prob'ly see it if I don't have to pay full price!

The Bad News Bears is iconic 1970's.
Walter Matthau IS Morris Buttermaker, and Tatum O'Neil IS Amanda Wurlitzer. Are they using the same characters? Ogilvie, Tanner, Ahmad, Engleberg, et al. Are they going to use Tanner's line; "All we got on this team are a buncha Jews, spics, niggers, pussies, and a booger-eatin' moron!"? Either way, they're going to screw it up.

The original is a firm part of my childhood. I haven't seen it in a good 25 years. I have wondered how they will play the 'bad boy' of the group. In the previews, I haven't seen anyone that fits that role, perhaps for a fantastic reveal later.
Billy Bob's character does ooze that licentious vibe but it is a good modernization of it. I don't see movies in the theatre so I may catch it on video if the buzz is good. |

Whats up with all the crappy remakes of good films?! Ok Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was awsome, but I can't think of anymore. hhmmmmm....
