http://www.vgln.com/ps2/106384997235052.shtml
Silent Hill movie in production by VGLN Staff Wednesday, September 17, 2003 Davis Films will create film adaptation of Konami thriller. Konami of America announced that its hit psychological horror videogame series, Silent Hill, will be released worldwide as a major motion picture. Production company Davis Films will produce the feature film adaptation of Konami's popular franchise. Produced by Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo, the Silent Hill games thrust players into a nightmarish world where they must unravel twisted storylines and battle grotesque creatures and terrifying monsters. Bringing the series to the big screen is prolific producer Samuel Hadida whose credits include blockbuster films, True Romance, directed by Tony Scott and written by Quentin Tarantino, Spider, directed by David Cronenberg, and Brotherhood of the Wolf, directed by Christophe Gans. Gans, who also directed the major motion picture, Crying Freeman, has been appointed as the director of the Silent Hill feature film. "I am very proud to be associated with this game," said Christophe Gans. Working closely with the production team, Konami Corporation will help recreate the universal appeal of the game by overseeing the script development, participating in the design of all the monsters, creatures and characters as well as aiding in the film's soundtrack composition. "The success of the Silent Hill series is based on a perfect blend of suspense, plot twists and captivating characters," said Geoff Mulligan, Chief Operating Officer of Konami of America, Inc. "We are confident that Samuel Hadida and his talented team will capture and create an unforgettable movie-going experience." Silent Hill is the premiere franchise in the horror videogame genre with over four million copies sold in Japan, the U.S. and Europe. Silent Hill 3 for PlayStation 2 was recently released in August 2003 and is considered to be the best game in the series. With a terrifying narrative, spectacular graphics and a bloodcurdling soundtrack, Silent Hill 3 has already garnered numerous industry accolades and awards. To further strengthen the Konami brand worldwide, the company is currently pursuing film production deals for its other blockbuster videogame franchises. Silent Hill 3 is rated M for Mature and is available at an SRP of $39.99. To learn more about Silent Hill 3, please visit the Konami website at http://www.konami.com/silenthill3/. |

I actually enjoyed Resident Evil.
Maybe the fact that I haven't ever played one of the games had something to do with it. What do you think, Mr.D? Same with Silent Hill. I like horror stories, though. Playing them is another matter. Metroid Prime creeped me out.

See, I thought RE was good because I don't think the games are all that scary. Sure, they have the shocking moments where zombies come through windows, but you play the games enough and you can spot an ambush coming a mile away. Silent Hill is scary as all hell, and the movie could be terrifying if they do it right. The stuff in SH3 with the crazy changing walls and brrr....it makes me happy that my roommate has beaten it and can now walk around with the lightsaber and flamethrower killing those horrible flyingdoubleknifecorpses.

RE the movie was a mixed bag for me, I loved the ending, and the trailer for the 2nd movie is awesome.
Hopefully the Silent Hill movie will be better than RE and the new movie "House of the Dead" thats due out soon. House of the Dead looks bad in the trailers, and i've seen a few unflattering reviews on it. As long as this is a suspense movie and not a horror flick it should be okay.

Honestly, I hope this production never gets off the ground. I'm not trying to be negative, it's just that I haven't ever seen a sucessful video game to movie adaptation and I'm really not looking forward to seeing one of my favorite video games mangled.
And Christopher Gans' THE BROTHERHOOD OF THE WOLF was a huge mess. Why can't they ever tap a good director for these things. And it looks like Konami doesn't even understand their game. When that Mulligan guy describes Silent Hill as being "a perfect blend of suspense, plot twists and captivating characters" he misses the main characteristic that makes Silent Hill great: Atmosphere. Terrifyingly claustrophobic atmosphere. I was hoping they'd never try to adapt it. To me this is just bad news. |
