Worst sequels?
Alright whats the worst sequel you've ever seen? I'm a big sci-fi buff especially when it has to do with bugs. I thought Mimic kicked fuckin ass then I heard about Mimic 2. Worst damn sequel I've ever seen. It did no research what so ever on the original film or the plot and story behind it.
(SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT. IF YOU'VE SEEN NEITHER...DON'T READ ) Okay as we all know in the first movie Cockroaches were running rampant through the city and infecting the youth with terminal illness so then in comes the team of micro-biologists/entomologists and create a new species of insect through gene splicing. They mixed Termite and Mantid DNA and created the Judas bug. The bug was equipped with a chemical toxin which it excreted through its back that would poison and kill all the cockroaches in the city and of course through the course of evolution the bugs became enormous and mimiced humans...Now my point in Mimic 2 The Judas breed was I believe a cross-breed of Ant and Cockroach DNA (And it is supposed to be the exact same species from the first) as soon as I heard them say that I was like "WTF? Ah shit this is going nowhere!" How stupid can you be to not notice one of the key factors in the first movie which is that the bug was not a mix of cockroach DNA but that it was designed to KILL COCKROACHES! Why the hell would they mix it with the very DNA they are trying to eliminate?! It couldn't have been worse. It was obviously lower budget...bunch of poor excuses for actors that I've never even seen in other movies then the bugs weren't nearly as cool either. They totally fucked up the movie. Now theres a part 3 out and I'm almost too scared to see how badly they fucked this one up...I'll probably see it anyway cause thats the type of guy I am I'll want to see just how bad they fuck it up but it wouldn't be the first time I completely passed up a sequel. Like the sequel to Black Mask....LOVED Black Mask but when I read that the sequel didn't even have Jet Li in it and it was about Wrestlers that pretty much killed any anticipation I had for seeing that movie. Well bring em on. Keep in mind that not everyone has seen every movie so do please put a spoiler warning before going into any detail about a movie. I knew who the killer was in Urban Legend before I even saw it and I'm never going to see K-Pax because (SPOILER!!!!!) some idiots were talking about it out loud in class and they were like "Hey man have you seen K-Pax? Didn't you think it was cool how at the ending it turned out he wasn't an alien after all....he was just a genius" I turned around and I was thinking "WELL THANX A LOT ASSHOLE!!" I mean the whole fuckin plot of the movie is that you're NOT supposed to know that! I could kill someone right now so I'm gonna finish eating my chicken pot-pie instead. Carry on folks! Asta!!

This is so funny - when I read the thread title, I immediately thought of Highlander 2. I guess it's plain to see how very bad that movie is.
So, since my answer was taken (well, not taken - it was THE answer), I'll have to go with Superman 4. Superman 2 was the rare sequel that trumped the original. Superman 3 was still a decent take on the Man of Steel. But Superman 4 was garbage. I mean, they take a girl to the freakin moon, and she survives - with no space suit!!!! I guess they thought if they brought Gene Hackman back, it would be an automatic success. But no. I bet he still hates the fact that he was in that career albatross.

Nah... I like reloaded.. people dont seem to understand it is merely a continuation of the story... not a new movie ... plus, we are already open to the ideas of the Matrix.. so there is little new in that area that can WOW us like the said first one. That aside, It could've been better.
Scary Movie2 kinda sucked... the redhead was the redeaming factor. Temple of Doom didn't fit anywhere in that trilogy.

Was Highlander 2 the one with Dennis Hopper and Macloud was an old dude? Cause that one was pretty bad too. Don't tell me you're talking about The Quickening with Sean Connery and that Gothic swordsman dude with the safety pins in his neck. Thats probably the best one I've seen (Of course the fact that the whole soundtrack was done by Queen might give me a bit of a bias) But I realize theres a whole shit load a movies that bear the Highlander name and I've yet to keep up with all of em. Highlander Endgame (The last one) was kind of a let down. Wish it had a higher budget and better......something. Well yeah theres plenty a more bad sequels out there heh.

Definitely Terminator 3. And I find it hard to believe that Matrix Reloaded was a bad sequel, when in fact it was better than the first one.

Anything after the first Batman. Oh yeah, and to parrot everyone else...
HIGHLANDER ENDGAME SPOILER * * * * Oh, good call on any of the Highlander sequels... As far as I'm concerned, they just don't exist. The original Highlander, and the Highlander TV series with Duncan are all that exist. Seriously, the immortals are aliens in Highlander 2, Mario Van Peebles came back from being buried alive in Highlander 3, and Connor is killed off in Highlander Endgame!!!! How can you kill The One off?!? That's just kicking all true Highlander fan(atics) in the crotch... /covers eyes & ears. Didn't happen, didn't happen, didn't happen.

The Godfather Part 2.
Not in the way that its a bad film, cos its not, just in the way that it was such a disappointment. I saw the first one and loved it and I'd heard so much about the 2nd part being the best ever sequel and really built it up and when i got around to seeing it i was disappointed. Part 1 is better

Any post Tim Burton Batman sequel.
I'm with Hawkeye about the Police Academy movies. I personally feel that this is a perfect example of a very funny movie that should have never, never ever spawned a sequel. Also, Speed 2 was just godawful.

Speed 2
Die Hard 2 (but as mentioned above, 3 more than makes up for it) Personally I though Terminator 3 was far superior to T2 since it wasn't a big-budget re-tread of it's predecessor (though still one of the greatest action flicks ever made). Oh an Episode I and II are PREquels not sequels, so shut the fuck up about them. Sorry, had to get that out, I just can't stand how people always have to somehow find a way to whine about the Prequels in a conversation about movies. |

Got rid of ANY reference to aliens. God, the execs fucked that one up. I'll have to agree, only the original movie and the TV series kept the right idea. Everything else is not legit as far as I'm concerned. Last edited by rogue49; 10-09-2003 at 12:07 PM.. |

I'm not sure about worst sequel though... probably The Mummy Returns. They made up so much bullshit that was no where in the first one, and never explained how the Mummy got ressurected. Sure it was a popcorn flick but they could have at least stuck with what they had from the first instead of making up idiotic things.

I liked the first one, about the serial killer, but this one was all about some king or something. And everyone talked in this weird English. I missed II-IV though, so maybe that's why I didn't get it. I felt the same way after watching Malcolm X without having seen Malcolm I-IX. sk

Seriously though, what made it inferior in your eyes to part 1. The Godfather Part 2 was one of the best films on the corruption of power, ever. Great performances by Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino. Its not quite my favorite move ever, but it ranks up there. Veritas en Lux! Jimmy The Hutt
