Favourite movie SCENE

A lot of us have favourite movies, characters and indeed actors.

I've been thinking lately of what fellow board members would consider their favourite movie scenes.

Two of my favourites:

GodFather II - de Niro (as Vito Corleone) kills the "Big Boss" in New York during a festival. The towel catching fire due to the gun-blast was a nice touch.

Withnail and I - Withnail, Marwood and Danny in the rat infested flat smoking huge joints.

Mr Mephisto

Speed_Gibson 10-06-2003 10:51 PM

Birth of the Nation - when the two old family friends now wearing Blue and Grey uniforms meet in battle when one of them leads the charge on the other's line and they literally fall on each other.

The Maltese Falcon - the scene where Sam Spade is drugged and the camera takes the entire five minutes covering most of the apartment in a single take without any editing or cuts at all

Citizen Kane - the groundbreaking fades and small things like transitioning/zooming through the skylight smoothly to focus on the table far below.

Xiangsu 10-07-2003 12:42 AM

Fight Club-The Human sacrifice, Raymond H. Kessel(I think thats how it was spelled.)
Se7en-The final scene
The Matrix-When Neo Saves Trinity from the Helicopter.
Lord of The Rings-The scene when Gandalf fights the Balrog at the bridge.

Those are just a few off the top of my head that I always loved.

Vilkata 10-07-2003 02:14 AM

Requiem For A Dream - Ass to Ass :p

LaZy 10-07-2003 02:38 AM

Pulp Fiction - Samuel L. Jackson reciting ezekiel 25:17

Averett 10-07-2003 06:33 AM

Field of Dreams - The end when Ray plays catch with his dad.

Lunchbox7 10-07-2003 09:30 AM

Dragons Forever: The scene where Yuen Bao comes home and notices someone in his house. He climbs in from the roof. He sees someone stumbling around in the dark. He attacks them. The guy keeps struggling not to get cut up whilst repeatidly yelling "its me Johnny". This goes on for a while until Johnny (jackie Chan) opens the fridge door so Yuen can see his face. They then turn on the light and Yuen starts spouting all this philsphical crap whilst Jackie has to ask him like a million times the same question. It is one of the best scenes ever.

The other one is in Hercules Returns where Herses and Machismo are facing off. Machismo says "I'll fight you on one condition. You lower your nipples". Herses does it and they fight. Hillarious

Loup 10-07-2003 09:41 AM

The Matrix Neo vs Morpheus (Dojo scene).
Army of Darkness Ash jumps up to his chainsaw and it locks in.
Those are some good watchin'.

SabrinaFair 10-07-2003 10:07 AM

Gone With the Wind- when Scarlett runs towards Tara in the darkness, unsure if its been burned by the Yankees...and the clouds shift, and she sees its still standing.

or

The Silence of the Lambs- the scene in Tennessee where Dr. Lecter is being held in that cell in the middle of a big room...and Dr. Chilton comes in, dragging Clarice away. Dr. Lecter hands her the case file and strokes her finger with his. Gives me chills every time.

dailyjo2003 10-07-2003 11:26 AM

Apocalypse Now - Brando’s talk with Martin Sheen about the reasons for his madness - his story about the inoculations in the village. Basically anything with Brando.

Cynthetiq 10-07-2003 11:59 AM

Hardboiled... opening scene in the Jazz club.

ssh_agent 10-07-2003 12:32 PM

monty python holy grail - black knight scene

reservoir dogs ~ mr blonde with his groovy dancing

djtestudo 10-07-2003 03:09 PM

Scarface: the final scene in the mansion. Snorting coke, people dead, large-caliber machine guns, is there anything better?

guenwyv 10-07-2003 03:11 PM

Swordfish--The explosion seen at the beginning of the movie when the girl was "rescued" from the hostages. Fantastic 360degree explosion.

edmos1 10-07-2003 03:37 PM

Agree with SabrinaFair on "Silence of the Lambs"

A couple more:
Goodfellas with Joe Pesci questioning I amuse you

True Romance With Dennis Hoppers character answering to Christopher Walkin

Caddyshack, Bill Murray and Chevy Chase in the assistant grounds keeper quarters

All of Friday....

bobw 10-07-2003 09:03 PM

Monty Pyhon, Holy Grail. THe Sir Robin scene with the "Brave brave Sir Robin" song !

Speed_Gibson 10-07-2003 09:09 PM

have to add:
Casablanca - at the end where they exchange those looks and then the police chief says that immortal line "Round up the usual suspects"

trying to thinkof newer films but my overall preference tends to be in the 1900-1950 range.
Although the end of Dumb and Dumber is so incredibly fucked up and yet so funny (seem to recall reading/hearing that the filmed ending was actually a Jim Carey adlib)

maximusveritas 10-07-2003 09:31 PM

Platoon - Dafoe shot and left for dead, staggers out of the jungle as the helicopter passes overhead, falling to his knees and reaching up. the look between Sheen and Berenger to top it off.

2001: opening and final scenes
Deer Hunter: final russian-roulette scene and the closing "god bless america" scene
Godfather: murder in the restaurant

yellowgowild 10-07-2003 09:49 PM

1.Godfather trilogy: The climaxes when the Corleones kill all their enemies.
2.Blade: opening club scene.
3.Dune: when paul blows up the obelisk with the weirding module.
4.Bram Stokers Dracula: Entire opening scene before title.

agreed, that scenes brilliant... i also love the single shot of the Tennessee cops bursting in on the cell...

i also think that the Bamboo Fight Scene in Crouching Tiger was fantastic.

1. In Dune, when Maud'Dib kills Feyd-Rautha at the end.
Paul's all worked up, he looks down at Feyds' body and screams at it, which causes the body to expand and burst, and the ground to heave up and crack the marble floor.
Then Alia says, "And how can this be? For he is the Kwisatz Haderack!".

Always sends a chill up my spine.

2. Another of my favorite movie scenes is in "The Bone Collector", with Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie.
It's when Lincoln Rhyme is laying in bed, apparently asleep, and Amelia Donaghy(in the book, Amelia Sachs) walks over to the bed, and starts slowly rubbing his non-paralyzed finger.
Lincoln opens his eyes and teases her, saying what she's doing might be illegal, or something like that.
The scene is very sensuous, imo.

The whole scene at the end of that movie is superb. When Captain Renault orders his lieutennant to "Round up the usual suspects" (after Major Strasser is shot by Rick) is followed by the eponymous "Louis, I think this is the start of a beautiful friendship."

Great movie. Another line in the same scene is the classic "If you don't get on that plane now you will regret it. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow. But soon, and for the rest of your life" uttered by Rick to his old flame Ilsa Lund.

Call me an old fogey, but this is probably my favourite movie of all time.

Since my favorite scenes have already been said (end of Casablanca, Dafoe in Platoon) here's some of my others.

Wesley vs Inigo Mantoya in Princess Bride. My favorite sword fighting scene ever.

Also Inigo meeting the six fingered man (containing my favorite quote "My name is Inigo Mantoya. You killed my father. Prepair to die.")

Empire Strikes Back - Vader reveals he is Luke's father.

The final scene of Clockwork Orange in the hospital.

Helms Deep - LOTR The Two Towers

ratbastid 10-08-2003 03:55 AM

The Ring--The last killing in the film. If you've seen it, you know what I mean, and if you haven't, the I'm not giving it away, just go rent that movie NOW.

I second the nomination of the bamboo fight in Crouching Tiger.

The polluted river spirit scene in Spirited Away. Also the scene on the train.

The hotel room scene in Fight Club, when the other shoe falls. I remember sitting on my couch going, "Oh, shit!"

Man, too many to even think of....

livewirerc 10-08-2003 06:18 AM

It's already been mentioned, but I think the dialogue in True Romance between Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken is the most amazing scene ever. Two old pros doing what they do best...

It's one of my favorites as well. A classic.

Gortexfogg 10-08-2003 07:33 AM

Apocalypse Now - All the Heuys coming in with the sun behind them and the classic "dum dum dum dum dum dum!" music blaring in the background

Annie Hall - The part where Alvy and Annie are talking on the balcony and it shows what they are thinking in subtitles while they speak. Classic stuff.

Alien - Spagetti. Joke. Chest burster. Need I say more?

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly - the final stand off scene where they are in the circle in the middle of the cemetery. Very epic.

The Bridge on the River Kwai - The final big scene.

That is indeed one of the greatest ever.

I also really enjoyed the 'graduation scene' of Bill Murray and the gang in Stripes.

Boom chugga lugga lugga boom chugga lugga lugga chugga lugga lugga BOOM....

djflish 10-08-2003 01:04 PM

Monty Python and the Holy Grail - "The Black Knight always triumphs!"

And the 'Poo splatter' scene in Trainspotting

tokaok 10-08-2003 01:23 PM

********SPOILER*********

Meet Joe Black, when brad pitt gets killed when crossing the street, Laughed so hard as the guy was bounced from car to car coming from different directions.

docbungle 10-08-2003 01:41 PM

Goodfellas - When Ray Liotta's girl comes home with a black eye, he marches accross the street and pistol whips the shit out of that guy after being asked "what do you want, fucko?"

Cobalt_60 10-08-2003 01:46 PM

One of my favorite scenes in a movie is from Léon, otherwise known as The Professional. The scene where the SWAT team has been taken out by Léon (Jean Reno). Agent Norman Stansfield (Gary Oldman) looks to one of his mean and tells him "Bring me everyone." Stansfield's man looks at him and ask "What do you mean everyone?" Agent Norman Stansfield looks at him and yells "EVERYONE!" And the theme music begins to play. Gives me the chills watching that part. I have the cd and love listening to that theme music. Gary Oldman is one of my favorite actors. The man definately gets into character.

frankx 10-08-2003 05:32 PM

The Raymond K. Hessel scene from Fight Club. My mouth was hanging open the first time I saw it.

and yes again - although i´ve got to say the Withnail driving scene is my fav in that great flick (¨i´m making time!¨)...

and i should also add seeing the Fanny Ardant and Catherine Deneuve singing in 8 Femmes is another fav.

so is the Juliette Binoche love scene in The English Patient... those candles in the little shells - leading to him - now that was good...

Fremen 10-09-2003 07:39 AM

I thought of another scene.
The one in PCU where the guys from the Pit are throwing raw meat down on the vegetarian rally.
Pretty funny. ;)

more fire 10-09-2003 10:17 AM

one of my favourite scenes in any film is in he got game, at the beggining where there's a montage of basketball coaches talking to jesus, all saying this is the biggest decision of your life

absorbentishe 10-09-2003 10:39 AM

Sudden Impact, the diner scene, where Clint is talking to the robbers, "so, you're thinking, did he fire 5 shots or 6, well you have to ask yourself, do I feel lucky, well do you punk?" That is great!
Monty Python and the Holy Grail - Do I have to pick just one?
Caddy Shack - Too many to mention
Groundhog Day, when he finally gets it right
Patton - the scene in Africa when goes out and shoots at the airplanes, plus many many more...

rogue49 10-09-2003 11:58 AM
