Favourite movie SCENE

A lot of us have favourite movies, characters and indeed actors.

I've been thinking lately of what fellow board members would consider their favourite movie scenes.

Two of my favourites:

GodFather II - de Niro (as Vito Corleone) kills the "Big Boss" in New York during a festival. The towel catching fire due to the gun-blast was a nice touch.

Withnail and I - Withnail, Marwood and Danny in the rat infested flat smoking huge joints.

Birth of the Nation - when the two old family friends now wearing Blue and Grey uniforms meet in battle when one of them leads the charge on the other's line and they literally fall on each other.

The Maltese Falcon - the scene where Sam Spade is drugged and the camera takes the entire five minutes covering most of the apartment in a single take without any editing or cuts at all

Citizen Kane - the groundbreaking fades and small things like transitioning/zooming through the skylight smoothly to focus on the table far below.

Se7en-The final scene
The Matrix-When Neo Saves Trinity from the Helicopter.
Lord of The Rings-The scene when Gandalf fights the Balrog at the bridge.

Dragons Forever: The scene where Yuen Bao comes home and notices someone in his house. He climbs in from the roof. He sees someone stumbling around in the dark. He attacks them. The guy keeps struggling not to get cut up whilst repeatidly yelling "its me Johnny". This goes on for a while until Johnny (jackie Chan) opens the fridge door so Yuen can see his face. They then turn on the light and Yuen starts spouting all this philsphical crap whilst Jackie has to ask him like a million times the same question. It is one of the best scenes ever.

The other one is in Hercules Returns where Herses and Machismo are facing off. Machismo says "I'll fight you on one condition. You lower your nipples". Herses does it and they fight. Hillarious

Gone With the Wind- when Scarlett runs towards Tara in the darkness, unsure if its been burned by the Yankees...and the clouds shift, and she sees its still standing.

or

The Silence of the Lambs- the scene in Tennessee where Dr. Lecter is being held in that cell in the middle of a big room...and Dr. Chilton comes in, dragging Clarice away. Dr. Lecter hands her the case file and strokes her finger with his. Gives me chills every time.

Casablanca - at the end where they exchange those looks and then the police chief says that immortal line "Round up the usual suspects"

trying to thinkof newer films but my overall preference tends to be in the 1900-1950 range.
Although the end of Dumb and Dumber is so incredibly fucked up and yet so funny (seem to recall reading/hearing that the filmed ending was actually a Jim Carey adlib)

agreed, that scenes brilliant... i also love the single shot of the Tennessee cops bursting in on the cell...

i also think that the Bamboo Fight Scene in Crouching Tiger was fantastic.

1. In Dune, when Maud'Dib kills Feyd-Rautha at the end.
Paul's all worked up, he looks down at Feyds' body and screams at it, which causes the body to expand and burst, and the ground to heave up and crack the marble floor.
Then Alia says, "And how can this be? For he is the Kwisatz Haderack!".

Always sends a chill up my spine.

2. Another of my favorite movie scenes is in "The Bone Collector", with Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie.
It's when Lincoln Rhyme is laying in bed, apparently asleep, and Amelia Donaghy(in the book, Amelia Sachs) walks over to the bed, and starts slowly rubbing his non-paralyzed finger.
Lincoln opens his eyes and teases her, saying what she's doing might be illegal, or something like that.
The scene is very sensuous, imo.

The whole scene at the end of that movie is superb. When Captain Renault orders his lieutennant to "Round up the usual suspects" (after Major Strasser is shot by Rick) is followed by the eponymous "Louis, I think this is the start of a beautiful friendship."

Great movie. Another line in the same scene is the classic "If you don't get on that plane now you will regret it. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow. But soon, and for the rest of your life" uttered by Rick to his old flame Ilsa Lund.

Call me an old fogey, but this is probably my favourite movie of all time.

Since my favorite scenes have already been said (end of Casablanca, Dafoe in Platoon) here's some of my others.

Wesley vs Inigo Mantoya in Princess Bride. My favorite sword fighting scene ever.

Also Inigo meeting the six fingered man (containing my favorite quote "My name is Inigo Mantoya. You killed my father. Prepair to die.")

Empire Strikes Back - Vader reveals he is Luke's father.

The final scene of Clockwork Orange in the hospital.

Helms Deep - LOTR The Two Towers

I second the nomination of the bamboo fight in Crouching Tiger.

The polluted river spirit scene in Spirited Away. Also the scene on the train.

The hotel room scene in Fight Club, when the other shoe falls. I remember sitting on my couch going, "Oh, shit!"

Man, too many to even think of....

One of my favorite scenes in a movie is from Léon, otherwise known as The Professional. The scene where the SWAT team has been taken out by Léon (Jean Reno). Agent Norman Stansfield (Gary Oldman) looks to one of his mean and tells him "Bring me everyone." Stansfield's man looks at him and ask "What do you mean everyone?" Agent Norman Stansfield looks at him and yells "EVERYONE!" And the theme music begins to play. Gives me the chills watching that part. I have the cd and love listening to that theme music. Gary Oldman is one of my favorite actors. The man definately gets into character.

and i should also add seeing the Fanny Ardant and Catherine Deneuve singing in 8 Femmes is another fav.

so is the Juliette Binoche love scene in The English Patient... those candles in the little shells - leading to him - now that was good...
