Full Metal Jacket, the "what's your major malfunction" part in the bathroom when Joker has that rifle.

I like when Marlon Brando in "Godfather" says "you can be a man!" and slaps that guy.

Um, from my childhood I loved that part in "Little Shop of Horrors" when the plant says something like "oh shit" before exploding. My dad also likes to tell the story of how he and his girlfriend were outside the house and looked into the window to see me and my brothers watching the part in "Omega Man" where Charlton Heston gets speared in the fountain, rewinding and watching again and again and again.

Speed_Gibson 10-09-2003 05:33 PM

the final scene in 13 Rue Madeleine where the Nazis are trying to break him and James Cagney just looks up laughs right before the building is obliterated by waves of Allied bombers is powerful and definitely belongs on that list for me.

Batman976 10-09-2003 06:27 PM

Trying to come up with a few that haven't been said.

Not a movie, but in Band of Brothers when they found the concentration camp, my heart just sunk.

Blues Brothers - Car chase through the mall

Goonies - Deleted octopus scene... (Nah, I'm just kidding about that)

Mulholland Drive - At Club Silencio

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - The whole movie is great, but the end gets me everytime. I also really like the scene where McMurphy takes them all out fishing.

ARTelevision 10-09-2003 06:31 PM

the scene with the guy that is building a boat on a rooftop in "Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai"

rs8001 10-09-2003 07:55 PM

Jeez, a lot of movies mentioned here that I've never watched - I'm looking forward to watching a few mentioned in this thread!

A couple come to mind:

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory scene when Charlie gives back the everlasting gobstopper.

Star Wars scene Luke looking over the devistated remains of his aunt and uncle's home and says "There's nothing here for me now."

Apollo 13 splashdown scene.

Bladerunner "time to die" scene. Not expecting it to happan this way, really made the movie.

Probably my favorite: the Jesus rolling a frame in The Big Lebowski. At one point the camera pans across Lebowski, Walter, and Donny. Pure genious.

This is sooo hard I know I'm leaving too many out.

Yes! Or the part when he's driving, and he goes to throw his joint roach out the window, but the window isn't rolled down so it bounces back at him, then he screams and tries to put it out by pouring his beer onto the car seat. That movie is great. Or that black taxi cab driver who is listening to the Eagles and kicks The Dude of his cab because he says "I've just had a really bad day, and I hate the fucking Eagles."

Maybe you already knew this, but isn't funny how, for a movie set largely in a bowling alley, the main character is never seen bowling once? I love that movie.

Pulp Fiction - When they shoot the guy in the head in the car.. classic.

^ Aw man, i shot marvin in the face.

Lasereth 10-09-2003 09:25 PM

I'd have to say in Sudden Impact when Harry (played by Clint Eastwood) walks in on a bar hold-up. The four black guys that held up the bar look at him, and Harry says: "We're not going to let you just walk out of here." Then one of the black robbers asks who "we" is with an attitude. Harry responds with "Smith....and Wesson...and me."

History of the world part 1, most of this movie could fall in here. The piss boy scene is exceptionally funny.

YES. and since someone mentioned monty python, the scene from holy grail when arguing about the swallow.
and how the french guy has already a holy crusade and doesn't need another.
and when one of the knights, i forget which, is in that castle looking for the grail and had all those girls and when he's taken out he begs the other knight for "can't i have just a little bit of peril?"

also, any scene in any war movie when air support comes in to save the day...we were soldiers comes to mind, among others.

stinkynutz 10-10-2003 09:06 AM

as stated before, Defoe scene in Platoon was excellent.

Pulp Fiction - The scene where Butch saves Marsellus Wallace from the cop and the shop owner.

Full Metal Jacket - scenes where drill instructor Hartman chews out the new recruits.

Apocalypse Now - the air cav raid on the village with Wagner's "The Ride Of The Valkyries" blasting from the speakers.

Monty Python's Holy Grail - the scene where Sir Gallahad storms the castle and slaughters the wedding reception.
Also, the scene where an old historian guy is standing in the park making a commentary....then gets his throat slit by a knight on a horse.

MPower 10-10-2003 12:50 PM

Glenngary glenross: the baldwin brass balls speech.

Raiders of the lost ark: the fight at the airplane.

CryptikSoul 10-10-2003 12:55 PM

Jet Li kicking ass in the japanese dojo in "Fist of Legend."

Xiangsu 10-10-2003 02:34 PM

I always like the part in Monty Python and the Holy Grail when they go to fight the monster and then one guy thinks its ok and gets killed.

Lunchbox7 10-12-2003 10:28 AM

How great is the bar fight scene in Desperado?

The end scene in Braveheart when he refuses to beg when being tortured always brings a tear to my eye. He is in massive pain and he is at peace when he looks at the childs innosence and then sees his true love. God thats powerful.

BulletBob 10-12-2003 11:27 AM

The cat scene in The Boondock Saints

Lobby Shootout in The Matrix

Liqour Store scene in SLC Punk

BuddyHawks 10-12-2003 11:52 AM

Pirates of the Caribbean when, JohnnyD and Legolas walk underwater inside the overturned boat onto the Dauntless. The Interceptor goes to reclaim the ship and the two steal, I mean commandeer, the Interceptor instead.
"That has go to be the best pirate I've ever seen."

ringogonebad 10-12-2003 05:18 PM

singing in the rain, gene kelly dancing in the rain, always leaves me feeling so ........um......cheerful ?.....hopeful ?

mystmarimatt 10-12-2003 05:41 PM

the suicide scene in "Royal Tenenbaums", or "El Tango de Roxanne" in "Moulin Rouge", both are totally stunning

BigGov 10-12-2003 06:12 PM

Ohh, this is a good one. Get ready for a big list Spoilers included

187 - Russian Ruelette scene, Sam Jackson doing what he does best.

Pulp Fiction - Pretty much the whole movie, but if I were to pick ONE scene, probably when Vincent shoots the guy in the head in the car. The only time that I've had to stop and rewind the movie I was watching so I could stop laughing.

Scarface - Again, the whole movie, but if I had to pick one scene is when the guy is on his hands and knees begging for his life after he tried to kill Tony "Please Tony! Don't kill me!" "I'm not gonna kill you" "Oh thank you! Thank you!" "Manny, shoot this piece of shit!" (Hey! It's on USA right now as I type, haha, love this scene)

South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut - "Wwwellllll, Kyle's mom is bitch she's a big fat bitch she's the biggest bitch in the whole wide world..."

Donnie Darko - The scene where the motivational speaker (Jim Cunningham) is at the high school.

Jim Cunningham: Son... DO YOU SEE THIS? This is an Anger Prisoner. A textbook example. DO YOU SEE THE FEAR, PEOPLE? This boy is scared to death of the truth. Son, it breaks my heart to say this, but I believe you are a very troubled and confused young man. I believe you are searching for the answers in all the wrong places...
Donnie: You're right, actually. I am pretty- I'm, I'm pretty troubled and I'm, I'm pretty confused. But I. . .and I'm afraid. Really, really afraid. Really afraid. But I... I . . . I think you're the fucking Antichrist.

The Godfather - The first half hour

The Godfather Part II - Has to be one of the best scenes in movie history:

[Vito returns years later to Sicily and meets Don Francesco Ciccio, the man who murdered Vito's family]
Don Francesco Ciccio: I see you took the name of the town. What was it before?
Vito Corleone: Andolini.
Don Francesco Ciccio: You'll have to speak up.
Vito Corleone: Andolini... and this is for you.
[stabs him]

And finally, my absolute favorite

Saving Private Ryan - The D-Day landing, or the first half hour. One of the most elaborate scenes in movie history, very well done, and very memorable, which is why it's my favorite.

phunktastic 10-12-2003 07:22 PM

Another vote for Scarface when he buries his face in the mountain of coke and all the big guns. Such a great movie/scene

Oh, and I'd have to say the scene that took me offguard and shocked me the most was the end of American History X in the bathroom. Not too many movies have made my mouth drop like that.

messy 10-12-2003 07:50 PM

You guys are forgetting possibly one of the best shootouts ever filmed:

<b><i>Heat</i></b>

snapcarve 10-12-2003 10:52 PM

Chasing Amy:
Banky: Which one of them gets the $100 bill?
Holden: The man hating dyke.
Banky: Why?
Holden: I dunno.
Banky: BECAUSE THE OTHER 3 ARE FIGMENTS OF YOUR FUCKING IMAGINATION!

Boondock Saints:
"There was a firefight." Dafoe is amazing in that sequence.

Blair Witch Project:
The last minute and a half of the movie in the house.

Shawshank Redemption:
"Hope is a good thing... maybe the best of things..."

Gladiator:
Maximus vs the 8 or so gladiators he kills singlehandedly.

Ohhh, that's a good one. I can't believe I didn't think of that.

Here are a few more based on cheese and comedy:

Batman ('66) - "Some days you just can't get rid of a bomb!"
This is Spinal Tap - "These go to eleven."

Jack Ruby 10-14-2003 04:03 AM

Shit, where to begin ? There's so many.

I saw Scarface for the first time yesterday though, so for the moment the scene burned into my mind is the one where the M4A1-wielding Tony Montana just won't die. Well, until his chest gets blown out wih a shotgun, of course.

Love this movie, I'm watching it again tonight :p

<STRONG>Lawrence of Arabia</STRONG> when the corporal puts out the match with his fingertips as Lawrence just did and burns himself.

Corporal: "Ooh, It bloody well hurts."

Lawrence: "Certainly it hurts."

Corporal: "Well whats the trick then?"

Lawrence: "The trick William Potter is not Minding that it hurts."

Snoogans 10-14-2003 09:11 PM

The scene on the lake in "Hero".

mattevil 10-14-2003 10:34 PM

i agree with alot in this thread so far
since i dont see it yet how bout quint's speech about the indianapolis in JAWS

Conclamo Ludus 10-15-2003 08:34 AM

Almost all of my favorites have been mentioned. Here's a couple more

Sexy Beast: When Don Logan (Ben Kingsley) describes the job that he wants Gale (Ray Winstone) to do. Great editing.

Lost Highway: When a very blond, very hot, Patricia Arquette walks up in slo-mo to Lou Reed's version of "This Magic Moment." Gives me chills.

Heat: De Niro and Pacino having coffee. What are the odds? Great dialogue.

Scent of a Woman: Pacino flying down the road in a ferrari, completely blind.

"Charlie don't blame me, I'm fucking blind!"

"I think I got another gear here!"

Hilarious

Eddie Scissorhands: Making the ice sculptures in his castle.

Scrooged: Bill Murray in the restaurant with his hallucinations. One of Bill Murray's best, and one of Christmas' best.

The Royal Tenenbaums: Intro scene. I like how they flood you with strange information and images about each character.

That's enough for now, there's too many to mention!

Fremen 10-15-2003 08:21 PM

In "Roxanne", in the bar, the "20 Something Better" scene.
Frickin' hilarious!

Speed_Gibson 10-15-2003 09:07 PM

ooh, just thought of "The Man with Two Brains"
that great drunk driving test, and a few other scenes come to mind.

<b>Reservoir Dogs</b> - When Mr. Pink is runnin from the cops, pulls the lady out of the car and unloads on the cops, seriously

<b>Bourne Identity</b> - When the other agent guy breaks through the glass, and Matt Damon and that guy fight hand to hand, one of the best fight scenes i think

<b>Heat</b> - The best street shootout ever, hands down

<b>Scarface</b> - The ending mansion scene, its like one of the most recognizable scenes, along with the chainsaw scene, i had to mention it!

<b>Predator 2</b> - Old ass movie with danny glover, the beginning scene with the shootout between the cops and the jamaican gang, so freakin brutal

<b>Casino</b> - At the ending scene when Pesci has to watch his brother get brutally beaten, then he himself gets beaten almos to death, then get thrown in the hole and buried alive with like 10 thousand broken bones, thats like one of the most brutal thing ive seen in a movie

<b>Pulp Fiction</b> - This is my favorite scene of all time, they are in the restaraunt, and Tim Roth and his gf rob the restaraunt, that whole scene with Samuel L Jackson talking about ezekiel 25:17 ( i think thats it ) freakin intense.

Poloboy 10-16-2003 04:39 PM

Blues Brothers: The restaurant scene. "How much for the women? Your wife, your daughter, the little girl. I want to buy them."

Animal House: John Belushi is on the ladder looking through the windows of the sorority house. He turns to the camera and raises his eyebrows. Priceless.

Super Troopers: Every scene with Farva. Also the syrup chugging scene.

The Transporter: The opening car chase.

Goldmember: Mini me humping Beyonce's leg.

Zoolander: "What is this? A city for ants?"
