I hate to have to use somebody else's opinion, but it's pretty much mine too. This is what Roger Ebert had to say about Fight Club:

Fincher is a good director (his work includes "Alien 3," one of the best-looking bad movies I have ever seen, and "Seven," the grisly and intelligent thriller). With "Fight Club" he seems to be setting himself some kind of a test--how far over the top can he go? The movie is visceral and hard-edged, with levels of irony and commentary above and below the action. If it had all continued in the vein explored in the first act, it might have become a great film. But the second act is pandering and the third is trickery, and whatever Fincher thinks the message is, that's not what most audience members will get. "Fight Club" is a thrill ride masquerading as philosophy--the kind of ride where some people puke and others can't wait to get on again.

A Clockwork Orange is a masterpiece, Fight Club is entertaining and mildly provoking fluff.

A Clockwork Orange

I don't think it's the masterpiece some critics make it out to be, but it's a better movie than Fight Club (which I liked). There's no contest.

I baffled as to why fight club is winning. I think it just proves that this board skews young.

I got the idea for this thread because there was a period of time that I didn't have TV. My roommate went through this phase where he would watch Fight Club over and over again. It didn't really bother me because I used to do the same thing with Clockwork Orange about 12 years ago.

I am completely undecided as to which one is better but judging from your poll results... I should play Fight Club before Clockwork. At least I should play it like this for random people whom I want to entertain.

I wish I could cross check and see if more women than men liked one movie or the other...

I don't know how this factors into the poll, but...

The idea of somebody watching A Clockwork Orange over and over again disturbs me much more than the idea of somebody watching Fight Club over and over agagin.

Clockwork Orange by far. Yes, Fight club is a good movie, but as stated by one of the above posters, this is like comparing Apples and Oranges or golf and Football, there not even in same fucking league.

For those of you that has not seen Dr. Strangelove, it is one of his best. CHECK IT OUT!!

I've seen Clockwork Orange. I think it's a horrible movie. I simply don't see what's so great about it. Utterly mindless.

Amusingly, I've watched Fight Club repetitively, and I notice new things each time. So.. *shrugs* I'm a little bias, aren't I now?

I don't think I've ever read a comment on TFP I disagree with more. I've seen Fight Club lots of times, and it grabs me every time. There are so many levels to it. And, although you can make excuses for it, a lot of A Clockwork Orange is very corny.

I really like A Clockwork Orange, but I feel its message is less contemporary than Fight Club. Plus Fight Club addresses questions which are extremely close to my heart. And, to reiterate something stated above, it's easy to lose the thread of A Clockwork Orange beneath the patina of pretentious language.

I'm going with Fight Club. The main reason I liked Fight club better was the "Single Serving Coffee, Single Serving Cream" part. I just love the timing and the beat of the part.
