I love the fact that you can find an appropriate quote amongst his collected works for almost any occasion. And to think that I started all this bruhaha with a dig at the "intelligence" of comic readers (tongue in cheek or not)!

Eightball by Dan Clowes

He did this story called Like a velvet glove cast in iron in the series that is brilliant.

The story is about a guy who sees his wife who left him in a crazy s&m type of film. He goes looking for her and crazy shit happens. The ending is really good. I think that clowes is a great writer and is up there with Vonnegut or Salinger.

If no one has mentioned it, everyone should check out Watchmen. Once you get past the antiquated artwork, it has one of the best stories in a graphic novel ever.

all and else: I'd also suggest the series Boneyard (good art, and very funny - centers around the caretaker of a cemetary and its denizens); Pete the PO'ed Postal Worker (he literally does anything to get the mail through, usually involving weaponry); and Johnny the Homicidal Maniac. I'm sure others of you on the boards here know more about JTHM than I, so I'll let you .. explain.. him/it.

Last Night I read Fantagraphic's Usagi Yojimbo number 27. It was heartbreakingly touching. Rarely do I get misty eyed over a comic but the last page in this really got to me. I wont spoil it unless asked.

When i was younger the only reason I had a paper route was to go buy more comic books... I collected for quite a few years but life kinda got in the way. The pride and joys of my collection are: Amazing Spiderman #1, Daredevil #1, Capt America #100, Tales of Suspense #56, Amazing #6, and Amazing #50. I started to buy the trade paperbacks because i just wanted to read the stories as opposed to blowing a shiat load of cash on the book itself. I really enjoyed the Batman No-man's Land Story and of course Dark Knight Returns...

I don't know how many of you have caught the Straczynski run on Amazing Spider Man, but it also gets a big thumbs up from me. He did an amazing job bringing the character back to his roots, without doing stupid retro crap. It feels like Spider Man should.

I was at my comic shop today and I noticed a lot of new people talking about the new Spiderman comics. People I never saw in the store before. So something is going correctly with the new Spiderman.

I Just got some complete sets of comics from EBAY. I got Batman and the Outsiders, Tomb Of Dracula, Deathlok, Spectacular Spider Man, Rom, and the Spectre. I got then all for a pretty good price. I also got a copy of Giant Sized X Men #1.
I am in comic geek heaven.

ok. I just picked up JLA//Avengers book one.
Oh. My, Dear. God.
I am probably one of the biggest fans of the Avengers ever, and I will admit, that even with my favourite artist Ever, and one of (IMNSHO) the best writers ever, that this would be at least a small letdown.
It wasn't.
This, is what a superhero comic book is supposed to be like.
I'm not going to give any of it away. go, get a copy, borrow a friends copy. whatever you need to do, but read this book.

I Agree with you about the JLA Avengers. Let me put it this way, my friend bought a copy, and he hasnt read comics since we were both little kids. We sat down and talked about this comic with the furor of crazed fanboys. That was fun.

Believe it or not, I haven't.
I haven't like Fabian since he screwed up my Thunderbolts, and Hawkeye specifically. The peeps I've talked to online have given it a resounding 'meh' so....I dunno. I'll read it in the shop, and probably end up buying it, I have a tendancy to buy stuff I know is crappy for sake of being a completeist.

as a side note to this, I live about 12 hours away from my primary shop right now ('cause of school) so my buying trips are few and far between.

today, hawkeye reccomends indy humor titles. (5.0 scale)
I will second Gwr's reccomendation of Boneyard, (NBM press)
it's funny, the art is consistantly great, and Richard moore actually gets his issues out on time.

next on the list is Halo and Sprocket, (Amaze Ink) This comic is the story of a girl, a robot, and an angel that takes the 'learning about humanity' cliche, and makes it funny again. the art is minimalistic, but it fits the storys well, and the writing is qute good. this is definately an all-ages title, the kind of thing that Everybody can have fun with.

Dungeon (NBM press) the story of a duck who is accidently hired as a resident barbarian at the local dungeon. The art is good, nothing stunningly good or bad, but the writing is quality.

Dogwitch (Sirrus Ent.) is a very mature readers title, with rather immature humor. Violet Grimm is a sex-witch that lives in the banewoods, home to imps, goblins, and demonic makeup salesmen. no, really. The art is good, tho a different style than most, and I still can't tell if it's a weird-adventure that's just damn funny, or a humor book that has a lot of plot, but it's worth checking out.

Last on today's list (but not least) is Girl Genius(Studio Foglio//Airship Entertainment//whatever the hell they are calling themselves this week) this really doesn't fall into the humor category. This is a Steampunk-esque story set in a very different world than ours (well, duh, it's steampunk.) the reason that I'm classing it with these others, is the simple fact that it makes me laugh out loud on many occasions. The story is solid, entertaining, and it tends to grab your attention and hold it.
I personally Love the art, but it Is rather different, cartoony, and exaggerated, if you are looking for photorealism, this ain't it. Because of his style, tho, the characters have a great depth to them, you can see reactions and attitudes very well.
if you have ever seen Phil Foglio's work before, you know what I'm talking about, and probably will see why I like this title.
I am docking it points however, because they haven't gotten the last few issues out very close to schedule.
4..6(when they come out on time again(it will happen), it will be a 4.9)

Any one read the new Silver Surfer comic? Its up to issue two and man its a great read so far. If you are a traditional superhero fan, you might not like it, this is more X filey so far. I have to say I am impressed.

Its by Chariton (writer) and Wiess artest. I never heard of either of them. The comic has a Vertigo feel to it, so this is not like the last Surfer run. In fact in two issues, the Surfer has about three panels.
