Unpopular Movie Opinions

You know that movie that everyone just keeps raving about and you just can't understand why? How about your favorite that everyone keeps badmouthing? Tell us about it here. This thread was inspired in part by Fire's Equilibrium thread, but mostly I saw this same thread on another forum and it got some pretty interesting responses.

Here we go:
The 25th Hour was a good movie, but the mirror monologue was stupid.
The Boondock Saints was fun, but the characters were terrible; especially Agent Smecker and Detective Greenly. Maybe it was just a terrible script.
Josie and the Pussycats is hilarious. I need to buy that movie.
Blade is by far the best movie to come from a Marvel comic book.
Robert DeNiro is great in comedies.

CSflim 09-21-2003 04:57 PM

But do you have the balls to say that The Godfather is the worst movie ever made?

Batman976 09-21-2003 05:00 PM

Haha, I thought about that thread too when I made this one. I figured this one would encompass more than that one did. Unpopular opinions don't always have to be negative.

JusticeForPhat 09-21-2003 05:22 PM

people hate the fact that I knew how sixth sense was going to end 15 minutes in. And i thought Unbreakable was 10 times better.

And i think Clash of the Titans is one of the finest movies ever made.

LaZy 09-21-2003 05:25 PM

I thought Matrix:Reloaded would be better than it was. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it but after I watched it I left with kind of a *meh* feeling.

Renegade 09-21-2003 05:30 PM

The original Punisher movie was great! The new one they're making probably won't be better. I should pop over to that Highest Bodycount thread cause I bet Punisher is up there.

frankgrimes 09-21-2003 05:38 PM

how about this: Ishtar wasnt that bad, not the greatest movie ever, but sorta funny, certainly not the worst movie ever. i also thought ferris buellers day off sucked.

filtherton 09-21-2003 05:39 PM

Dune by that twin peaks guy sucked ass. Changed the story from the book in stupid ways, casted Sting. 'nuff said.

Derwood 09-21-2003 05:39 PM

I know half of the lines to "Bring it On"

So ashamed....

frankgrimes 09-21-2003 05:42 PM

when titanic was out i saw it, hated it so much. everyone seemed to love it. now however, it seems to be getting the derision it so deserves.

Batman976 09-21-2003 05:44 PM

Here's one from the other board I saw this thread on.

It's okay to badmouth a movie even if you've only seen the trailer.

drawerfixer 09-21-2003 06:04 PM

I thought 'Fear and Loathing in Los Vegas' was one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

-Blade is a good movie!

Averett 09-21-2003 06:10 PM

"Bring it On" is one of my favorite guilty pleasure movies... I love the brother in that movie

that sir, is remarkably brave of you.

how about this... i actually sat through Antonion Banderasīs The Thriteenth Warrior - well, actually i was lying across the comfy counches having sex in the empy theatre, but hey, we lasted till the end credits.

EeOh1 09-21-2003 07:51 PM

I just saw Lost in Translation...and then I came home and read outstanding reviews. I absolutely hated it. See my hatred explode here.

I hated that movie and everyone I told that to would get pissed. I still can't figure out what the big deal about that movie was.

I second that. I even own it on video. Is it even on DVD?

I even saw Super Mario Bros. in the theater and thought it was piss out loud funny.

fugue_life 09-21-2003 09:04 PM

HAHA, some how it came up with my friends that we all liked "bring it on" I am amused that so many people agree. Clah of the titans was a fine film as well. I heard there are plans to remake it too. I hope I don't read about anyone dis-ing AoD

On that note, I would like to say that Star Wars, yes Star Wars is the most over-rated movie series. I am aware that this will be the death of me :)

onodrim 09-21-2003 09:14 PM

Lets see...I remember seeing "As Good as it Gets" and thinking, that really wasn't all that good. Just my opinion. "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" wasn't even remotely funny to me. I really liked "Original Sin" even though everyone else seems to think that it sucked. Heh. Those are the first ones that come to mind.

Hrothgar 09-21-2003 10:09 PM

I really hated Boondock Saints. Thats some of the worst acting in film history,i.e. Pappa Joe and the brother's friend with the stupid jokes and the one word vocabulary. Is the fact that the word "fuck" is said so many times supposed to make it "hip" or something?

Punch Drunk Love I liked it alot. It really was a different side to Adam Sandler and I liked it.

mystmarimatt 09-21-2003 11:38 PM

Goodfellas. i dunno, people say it's brilliant, but i don't see it. the first half is cool, gangster stories, lotsa stuff, but the second half was just Ray Liotta and his family turned into a bunch of sickened druggies. i understand that it came from a book and all...i dunno, just seemed weird and left me feeling uneasy.

HugAPug 09-21-2003 11:47 PM

I really enjoyed Ghosts of Mars. I watched it twice in a row after I rented it. Whew. This feels pretty good getting off my chest.

Sledge 09-22-2003 12:20 AM

Boondock Saints: excellent style, shitty peripheral characters. I know, fellows, let's remind the audience that the detective is gay by making him pull a flamboyant stunt every twenty minutes, then dress up as a WOMAN and KICKING ASS! Woo!

To its credit, the psychology of the two brothers was really well done. To its discredit, you are not allowed to not give your film an ending. Maybe the scriptwriters missed that memo.

I didn't think that was a particularly controversial opinion. Most people I know were dissapointed by it; I certainly was.

Now, if you said Jason and the Argonauts, you'd be talking about an underrated movie, but my wife just bought me Clash of the Titans on DVD. Lord, what a pile of crap. I'd managed to mentally edit Bubo out.

Not cool dude..not cool at all.

He was a criminal that turned good at the end, that realized the error in his ways, it was a transition. -_-.

Though, to each his own, no hard feelings.

MPower 09-22-2003 02:02 PM

1941 is one of my favorites. And baseketball. Prob dosent speak much for my IQ.

When I read the thread title, I decided to post 1941. I think there were too many characters for most viewers to handle. Anyway, the dance/fight scene was incredible.

Also, Hudson Hawk was a lot of fun.

What does bad acting have to do with the transitional phase of a character? What transistional phase did Pappa Joe undergo? Pappa Joe's acting of an Italian Don was terrible. The director must have owed this guy money to let him in the movie.

Though to each his own, like you said.

1. Josie and the Pussycats was great! Buncha hot chicks runnin around in cat costumes playin' music

2. THE FUCKING RULES OF ATTRACTION!! I bitched about this just before the death of TFP 3.0, and still refuse to give it another chance. I saw absolutely no plot in this film, and most of the storylines had no correlation to one another.

3. Ghosts of Mars. I love hokey, violent films, featuring space zombies.

Is this an unpopular opinion? I didn't think it was, otherwise I would have mentioned that too.

Kaos 09-22-2003 07:29 PM

Josie and the Pussycats was an awesome movie...that and Bring It On are 2 of my guilty pleasures :D

Everyone I know has been badmouthing Punch Drunk Love...I thought it was an excellent movie.

mercury-hg 09-22-2003 09:43 PM

hated the royal tannenbaums (sp?), as well as owen wilson in general

found bubble boy to be fairly witty and funny

Good fun, complete with oh-so-obvious stirring scenes and the like.

And I like the buckets-o-blood final battle.

docbungle 09-22-2003 10:48 PM

I sat all the way through Solaris. And liked it.

LaZy 09-22-2003 11:17 PM

ok, i've got another one.

I'm watching Masters of the Universe right now.......ON PURPOSE! :D

Batman976 09-22-2003 11:18 PM

Just so everyone knows where I stand on this issue.

Anime sucks.

Halx 09-23-2003 12:02 AM

I thought HULK was an incredible disaster. Oh man, if it weren't for Jennifer Connely, I would have walked out with or without my friends.
