Which film has the highest body count stat ?

In an effort to resolve a debate between a co-worker and myself, does anyone have any good figures on which movie actually has the highest body count (in terms of on screen deaths) ever? My co-worker is convinced that it's " Cobra ", but I'm pretty sure that it has to be one of John Woo's films (probably Hard Boiled).

XenuHubbard 09-16-2003 06:52 AM

My vote's on Hardboiled...

Nuclear explosions shouldn't count.

BonesCPA 09-16-2003 07:12 AM

I've always remembered Cobra for it's huge body count - I tried counting once - it was outrageously high.

For this discussion, I think we need parameters. The "killers" need to be less than a dozen (knocks out Saving Private Ryan, Braveheart, etc.), and the kills have to be "personal" - direct gunfire, etc. from a killer. Hand grenades and bombs count as one kill no matter how many die (which knocks out nuclear wepaons for large kills).

Now we just need someone to start adding.

Gortexfogg 09-16-2003 07:22 AM

Isn't it "Hotshots Part Deux"? I don't remember how high the body count meter got, but it got pretty high!

Psivage 09-16-2003 07:35 AM

Depends, do you have to see the bodies? Or would the bodies just be implied? Like in the House of 1,000 corpse?

Got this off: Amazon:http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...259579-1760865

Got this off another site. Number of Horror Movies Kill:

You have to actually see the body count stack-up .

yournamehere 09-16-2003 08:55 AM

I would add Scarface to the list of contenders.

grayman 09-16-2003 09:05 AM

I also have always heard that it is Cobra, but it might be an outdated statistic.

CSflim 09-16-2003 09:20 AM

On screen deaths: It's gotta be Hard Boiled! I mean sweet jesus! the last 20 minutes of that film was just dozens of people being blown away! I recon at least 250 deaths were shown in that film!

As for implied deaths...well that a bit of a pointless question. Everybody on earth dies in Strangelove...Star Wars sees the death of some other planet. Body count means bodies damnit!

EDIT: Not too far off!
From IMDB:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0104684/trivia
"Hard Boiled - Body Count: 230."
"Has more on screen deaths than any other film."

In the words of Duke Nukem: Damn! I'm Good!

Onscreen, I would assume. Otherwise, movies like T2 would blow most movies away.

Charlatan 09-16-2003 10:04 AM

That would be Star Wars...

The Death Star blew up the planet Alderan with a population in the hundreds of millions...

Tempboy 09-16-2003 11:19 AM

I haven't seen most of the movies listed so far, but would Starship Troopers be anywhere up there? :)

Plan9Senior 09-16-2003 11:26 AM

Rambo!

Well that movie CLAIMS to be the "BLOODIEST MOVIE EVER". But, All that happens is that the lead guy (can't remember name) starts firing two machine guns, and we start to see a "score" ticking up with each kill, á la a videogame, the "score" goes well into the thousands, but you don't actually see these thousands of people! At best you see a few dozen!

My vote is still firmly on Hard Boiled. Anyone who likes action, (and doesn't mind subtitles) simply HAS to see this film.
While your at it, check out The Killer, also by John Woo and strarring Chow Yun Fat. Not as good...but close!

What we really need is someone with a large DVD collection and way too much time on their hands to set up a "Body Count Archive" website!

Umm....Strangelove blew up a planet with a population of over six billion! :D

Wasn't there some cheesy low budget sci- film that blew up an entire galaxy, or something? Presumably THAT would be the undisputed champion!

whistler 09-16-2003 03:43 PM

I beleive it is John Woo's "The Killer". It is one of his earlier films, but it's got a body count north of 100

Eiresol 09-16-2003 04:32 PM

Hard Boiled has more than The Killer.

filtherton 09-16-2003 04:56 PM

Robocop 2, as if anyone else actually saw it, had s huge body count too.

bparker805 09-16-2003 05:02 PM

My vote is for Sleepless in Seattle. Not for on screen kills, but how many men have slit their wrist watching that movie?

no way, are you kidding me?
City of Angels (yet another cheesy Meg Ryan romance) would have killed way more blokes than Sleepless.

seriously, i´ve never even heard of this Hard Boiled film... i´m going to have to go and rent it out.

Yup and then Luke killed all the Geonosians and Imperials on the Death Star when he blew that up, fucking psychopathic murderer.

I'm sure that there were loads of innocent hired hands on board also! :D

/Clerks.

pta200 09-17-2003 07:29 AM

Commando has pretty high body count too.

BubblegumTeflon 09-17-2003 07:39 AM

Do zombie bodies count? If so Dead Alive had at least a couple hundred zombies mowed down in that one scene with many many gallons of blood.

How bout Day of the Dead then? Like everyone in that movie was a zombie. Like everyone but 3 died in that movie.

Ripsaw 09-17-2003 08:01 AM

I too thought of Commando first.

But Hard Boiled it is.

Charlatan 09-17-2003 08:24 AM

You haven't heard of Hard Boiled or The Killer? God man! Get your sorry ass down to the video store and rent them...

These are examples of the most poetic and spectacular symphonies of violence and action every committed to film!

Don't even take time to post a reply... go now! Run! Get the film. Watch it...

Porkchop 09-18-2003 12:22 AM

I must admit commando first came to mind then began thinking of many others.

hansthemolemann 09-18-2003 02:46 AM

Saving Private Ryan had a lot of deaths on the beach landing...

Unknown Poster 09-18-2003 05:32 AM

Commando popped first in my mind as well.

dragonhawk 09-18-2003 06:14 AM

I too thought of Commando first. I remember watching it and lost count around 45 bodies in the first 30 minutes or so.

stinkynutz 09-18-2003 07:07 AM

hah, same for me....first was Hot Shots Part Deux, which was rather silly and not bloody; then Commando beats it.

but never seen Hardboiled.

Pheatius 09-18-2003 10:00 AM

Not that I really liked the series when it was on, but didn't the crew of the Lexx destroy their entire known universe before escaping to ours? I am pretty sure that would take the cake.

Mr. Mojo 09-18-2003 12:32 PM

First movie I thought of -

Red Dawn (1984) - LINK - "This film was entered into the Guinness Book of Records as having the most acts of violence of any film up to that time."

We Were Soldiers - LINK has got to be up there, for ON Screen deaths. I swear we saw all of 2,000 of them

frankx 09-18-2003 03:30 PM

For some reason, I thought about Total Recall.

Then I remembered Dead Alive.

I don't know if they have the highest, but there's a pretty big body count in both.

h2ogo69 09-18-2003 03:51 PM

Arnoldsmmovie commando.... im there is a shit load of deaths

Mr. Mojo 09-19-2003 08:51 AM

IN Commando - LINK
"Matrix kills approximately 88 people in the film"

In The Punisher - LINK w/ Dolph Lundgren

"91 people are killed individually on screen in this movie, not including those who die en masse in explosions, etc."

marcopolo 09-19-2003 12:43 PM

Just found out from ' Best Buy ' that John Woo's 1992 Hong-Kong Classic ' Hard Boiled ' is going to be re-released October 3rd .
I have the original Cantonese version Subtitled in English so I'll pick up the new release for sure .
LET THE BODY COUNT BEGIN !
