Where's Waldo?
Here's the Where's Waldo books I used to have:
There was the first one, the blue one, the second one, the red one, the third one, the yellow one, then there was an "Activity Book" with stickers and junk. then came the one with the movie theme, I also had a large poster book. There also was the NES game and the TV show. Have I missed anything? |

Why do these TV people even try to dumb down children's titles!!! So it isn't a popular name here, they'd soon twig it was a name. |

I played that NES game before... man, you had to have eagle-eye vision to spot that little 8-bit Waldo in a crowd. I remember the Where's Waldo Spaghettios, too- find Waldo in every spoonful!
I don't really know why the craze petered out like that... overexposure, maybe. Same thing happened to those Magic Eye books, that give you a migraine.

I agree on the NES game. That was brutal. I only had the three books. I rented the NES game, and I vaguely remember the cartoon.

The cartoon was great. I used the watch it all the time. Right before some commercial breaks, Waldo would get lost, and you had so long to find him. At the end of the break, they would show you where he was. Good times...

I recall reading these in a waiting room that I happend to spend a lot of time in. I remember them being a lot of fun, and more risque than I was exspecting. But hey, I was like seven or something, and I don't really remember what it used to take to set off my "risque meter"

Where's Wally wasn't a "dumbing down" at all. Frequently different territories will rename a product for their audience. It is more likely that the UK rights holder just felt that "Wally" was a cooler name.
The title in china might be something like: Look for the Happy Good Luck Man in the Funny Hat. It's all cultural

Oh my god. There was one page in the yellow book I think where Waldo was in the world of Waldo's or something.
Everyone was wearing the candystripped shirt and hat and everything but Waldo was wearing one thing different or something. I seriously stared at that page for over 5 hours total and still couldn't find Waldo, it pissed me off to no end.

One day an Englishman, a Scotsman, and an Irishman walked into a pub together. They each bought a pint of Guinness. Just as they were about to enjoy their creamy beverage, three flies landed in each of their pints. The Englishman pushed his beer away in disgust. The Scotsman fished the fly out of his beer and continued drinking it, as if nothing had happened. The Irishman, too, picked the fly out of his drink but then held it out over the beer and yelled "SPIT IT OUT, SPIT IT OUT, YOU BASTARD!" |

it took me forever, but i did find him. then i circled him with a pencil just to ruin everyone elses turn. its called Wheres Wally here... funny, i thought that the name Wheres Waldo was the one that was dumbed down... but it is all cultural. did you include the TV cartoon in that list? there was a REALLY shit cartoon about Wallys adventures through time and space... he was always being chased by the bad guy, whos name i think was Waldo... and he had his girlfriend, Wilma and his dog. i think he was following the wizard around, thats all i remember. oh, and i do remember the voice-over was really annoying. ¨OK Wally Watchers, wheres WALLY??¨ i love Wheres Wally. i think i had every single book, and i found all of the things. totally addictive.
