I'll say it before dozens of other TFP'ers say it first:
1) In The Empire Strikes Back when Vader reveals to Luke that he is his father. 2) In The Sixth Sense when you find out that the main character was actually a ghost throughout 95% of the film. |

Yup, this thread needs a spoiler alert in it.

Yeah, Empire, Fight Club, Sixth Sense, but for comedy I gotta go with Monty Python and the Holy Grail when they go to the castle where the Grail is supposed to be, and whadda ya know, those damn Frenchies are there waving their private parts at you.

i'd say sleepaway camp and the original friday the 13th.
it scarred me as a child. vanilla sky / abre los ojos & frailty weren't big surprises. they gave too many hints during the movie to keep the surprise. i didn't like the ending of frailty even, great movie, but the ending spoils it for me.

Life of david gale was good, but I wouldnt say I was suprised since I predicted it 10 minutes into the movie... well maybe 20 minutes in..
When I first watched pulp fiction and He shot the dude in the face in the car. That was pretty damn suprising! Fight club is great. End of america history X wasn't really expected. Alot of points in Final Destination, and Final Destination 2 even though you expected something you never really knew what... Sixth Sense and The others had the same twist but The others was crap so Sixth Sense gets a vote. Dark city, Similar to the matrix but well... not quite... I cant for the life of me think of anything better.. I KNOW there are better examples but I'm drawing a blank...

Ah yeah, Unbreakables ending really shocked me - more so then the Sixth Sense I suppose.
Another movie I just watched that had some good twists was Reindeer Games. Not the best movie out there but good twists nonetheless.

I know it isn't the best, but what about "Any Given Sunday"? When you think the coach is about to retire, but instead announces that he basically screwed over his old team by coaching elsewhere and signing the star QB. Priceless, especially with Al Pacino doing it.

Apart from several already mentioned here, I'm gonna throw in:
The Score-More of a twist than a surprise, but the execution was great. Donnie Darko-You're hand fed where it's going to end up throughout the whole move, but again, it's done so well. Session 9-I don't think I knew for sure what was actualy going on until a few minutes before they revealed it.
