anyone read the new Palahniuk book "Diary" yet?

just wondering if it's worth buying, is all. normally i'd rush out and buy any book by CP but, eh, "lullaby" kinda put me off. still love all his other work though, "fight club" being my fave of course.

anyway, anyone read it? worth the buy?

Not yet. I've read Survivor, Invisible Monsters, and Fight Club so I have some catching up to do.

I liked Lullaby a lot, but not as much as some of his others.

I have Diary coming in the mail, and can't wait to start on it.

Is it available as a paperback? tried ordering on amazon but it was only in hardcover form, and way too much for a book*.

Also on amazon, I just noticed he released some non-fiction book about the wonders of Portland, Oregon. Like underground sex socities and weird bars and stuff. Anyone checked that one?

*like $18. hey, i'm in college.

poot - the book is new, so it won't be available in paperback for a year. That's the general rule for all books - except Harlenquin.

Just finished it. Very good, but a distinct departure from his other books. All Chuck's other books have a similar theme. "To be free/grow you must do that which you are most afraid of." Diary is more of a "Why do bad things happen to me?" and an attempt a fighting fate kind of story. Which is refreshing. I was afraid the the diary/journal style of writing in the book would be a difficult style to accept, but Chuck does a good job of starting out journalistically and slowly lessening the diary aspect of it and blending in a more standard narrative. Which makes it all the more impactful when he reminds you this is suppose to be a diary.

All in all, not as impressive as IM, my favorite, but very good ideas in this. It's akin to Lullaby for reasons I'll not tell.
