Personally, I feel that a large part of the cache which Asian films bring to the table is the simple fact that they're different from the pablum we've been spoon-fed all our lives.
Along those same lines, I'm sure that's why American films do so well in Asia..... But that won't stop me from liking 'em any less! |

I just rented "versus" from blockbuster a while back, the back of the box makes it sound soo freaking amazing. But then when I watched it, it ended up being a low- budget movie that had lots of blood but no real story. SO sad

Better Luck Tommorow is not a asian film. It took place in american, the protagonists are ABCs and the movie is origionally released in english.

Like charlesesl said...BLT is an american movie with asian actors and one or two asian-related themes. scratch that, asian- american-related themes.
I'm a korean- american, and I feel the korean film industry is very Hit/Miss. Chingu (friend) is one of my favorite movies, international or not. It was the first movie that actually made me respect Korea as a decent film producing nation, as everything prior was a piece of shit. Look at shiri...eugh... China has a lot of good film coming out of it. I hear Hero is amazing. Of course you can't talk about HK film without the mention of the blood operas, Woo's Chow Yun Fat films. Killer is a classic. I haven't really had a chance to look into japanese film...I liked the american version of the ring, I just haven't had a chance to check out Ringu. I keep hearing good things about Battle Royale, too.

Battle Royale is allright, dont expect gripping drama, but it's on par with most Beat Takeshhi movies (he didnt direct it, but it has a similar feel)
Sharkshin man et al. is pretty cool.. The female lead doesnt do muchbut look pretty, but the male lead (who also was the lead of Ichi the Killer) was marvelous.. It plays out very much like the manga. Uzumaki is just plain creepy.. Not scary, but VERY disturbing and well made. Hero, is a very beautifully made period peice and i heard rumblings of it comming out in the states complete with subtitles as a theatrical release. |

I saw my first Asian film yesterday...
The Eye It was really good, kind of creepy, but not "scary". I'm definetly going to check out some more Asian films.
