Can movies still scare you?
 

What does it take? I'm not talking jump in your seat scary but scare the hell out of you give you nightmares scary.

I've never had a movie actually scare me.

i've had movies that have made me jump slightly.. but never more than once..

most times i'm not really even scared during the movie.. its afterwards when something will happen days down the road when something reminds me of the movie... sometimes then it will scare me...

"The Ring" movies have been the only one's to get me going recently. I mean the American AND the Japanese versions together.

By themselves, you'll be fine. But watch them BOTH back to back or within a few days of each other and there's enough scary stuff between them to keep you up at night.

Even a movie I thought particularly scary, "28 Days Later", did not make me lose any sleep.

To do that to anyone, a movie has to play on a real fear (such as drowning) and I haven't seen one lately that touches on any real life fears I have.

Now I might have had nightmares if I had seen "Old School"...

Are you kidding? It's been like 15 years since I've seen "The Omen" and I'm still scared! I don't care for those slasher movies like Friday the 13th, but the demonic, mess-with-your-mind type movies. *cringes.*

Another movie that was creepy, in a believable/strange kind of way was Scanners.
Man, after watching that movie I would be so afraid that someone would be "scanning" my thoughts are then controlling me. :)

I'm not easily scared, but 28 days later made me jump. That was some freaky shit with the eye ball gouging.

Not really, whenever something scary happens on-screen I'm usually thinking "Whoa, that's pretty cool." but not "OMFG! MY PANTS ARE POOPED!".

However Macheath is right about the Ringu films, they are quite freaky (For the record I enjoyed the American version but over time began to dislike it for how it pretty much tore apart the Ringu mythology so that it could be sold to stupid audiences).

Hmm. I'd say movies can still scare me, but not blood/zombies etc. It's been overdone so much lately.

I don't find "The Excorcist" or "The Blairwitch Project" scary. Well, only the teeth-part in TBP.

Creepy suspense is much better at scaring me than blood and gore. The images I create in my head when I read Stephen King-books scare me more than most movies.

movies seldom scare me these days. Tubgirl set the bar too high.

Most movies don't scare me because in the back of my head I'm always thinking "I wonder how they did that". So, images don't disturb me but the story behind the images may. For instance, The Exorcist. To this day that movie disturbs me because of the story that's being told but not because of what's shown.

The only movie to scare me, was Children of the Korn, when they were finally leaving, and the kid pops up from the back seat. I was like 14 i think. As for now, some movies can get my heart going, but never scare me.

Hell I'm scared just walking up to the box office, cause I know how I'm gonna get reamed. :eek:

Yep saw this aged 10. The bedroom light stayed on for months afterwards. The only films that scare me are supernatural films.

The Ring was the first movie since the Exorcist that scared the crap out of me. But the Exorcist still takes the cake for scariest movie I've ever seen.

Actually Aliens ranks up there probably at number 3. I can remember watching it for the first time when I was like 7. I had the worst nightmares of my life that night. Either on account of the movie or the three pound bag of boston baked beans that I ate... That movie still freaks me out.

When I was like 8 movies scared me. Now it's impossible. What most horror movies do now it a shock attack by making a loud noise. But after a while even that doesn't phase you.

I find horror movies more comedies than anything else.

Movies never scare me anymore unless they are just suspenseful, the last truly scary movie I saw was IT, by Steven King, I was scared white.

Well, I enjoy being scared by a movie. If a movie can do that to me, that is something special. So maybe I try a little harder to allow myself to be scared.

Every once in a while, something will come along that does it for me.

Audition was kind of scary, but not like the Ring was. The Ring scared the shit out of me and had me afraid of the dark for weeks :p

Audition is more tense and fucked up.

But the scariest movie I have seen is "The Eye", which got released in some theaters this summer. I can't quite explain why, but that movie scared the fuck out of me. Esp the calligraphy lesson scene.

I'm so glad to hear that we've got so many tough-guy-Marines in the group who aren't scared by anything. I'll be sure to call you guys if I ever need a bodyguard.

I, on the other hand, have to agree with the few real people who have posted and say that The Ring had me freaked out for a few days. Blair Witch Project had me looking over my shoulder all night after I watched it, even though I knew it was fake. The Exorcist also kept me awake for a little bit.

Scary movies are always scarier to me when I'm watching them alone. The scariness tends to be inversely proportional to the number of people you're watching with.

the film itself didnt scare me, but watching the 'cursed video' extra freaked me out!

"The Exorsist" was/is the only movie that can really scare me. After seeing it I was pretty freaked out because those possesions have actually happened. It just kind of creeps you out for a few days.

Most scary movies can make me jump and stuff, but nothing really stays with me and makes me keep the lights on (except for "Signs", that was kinda creepy).

I'm not a tough-guy marine.. nor a guy.. I'm just not scared by most movies. I'm more afraid of creepy IRl-stuff.. like the dentist or, waking up and realizing someone is staring at you trough the window, not knowing how long they've stood there... watching you..

The problem with most horror-movies is taht everything is happening so fast... WHAM, lots of blood people are dead. Things creeping up on people where they're not expecting it, slowly is much scarier, for me atleast.

IT messed me up. And even though it wasn't too great IMO, Jeepers Creepers was pretty scary.

Scary listen up. We are old now what scares us is real shit.


Example: "Requiem for a Dream" scared the bejeezes out of me.

Ah, The Ring. When I saw it for the first time, right after the part where the woman finishes watching the tape at the cabin, the phone rang at my house. I laughed, but the truth is I for a split-second I was worried.:lol:

Similarly, while I was watching Scream for the first time (which, I admit, wasn't all that scary), all the lights went out in my house. I had to go out and switch back on the fusebox, but from the movie I had all sorts of crafty murderers in my mind, who had purposely turned it off so someone killable would be required to come outside. Went out there with a nightstick, I shit you not...

shit that film made me cower. just like the movie poster said it would.

i got a fright the very very end of Blair Witch, when you see the guy facing the corner.

and since everyone here is talking about the Ring, well, yes, that one freaked me as well... but in the Naomi Watts version felt just a wee bit silly.

i enjoyed the mild freak out i got from the omen and the exorcist... but they didn´t scare me as much as those i´ve already mentioned.

If we are talking a few years back, (as i stated earlier Ring and Dark water are a little creepy) Giving away my age a bit here but when Salems lot was first shown on tv i had seen nothing like it on television and was a bit wary going to bed at night tapping on windows etc. Friend was so scared had to stay in parents room for a week. lol

No shit - <i>The Omen</i> was a scary movie.
I went out to a theater one night by myself - had no idea what the movie was about - just plunked my ass in a seat and watched. Wow!

Also, even earlier - back in my teenage, stupid-enough-to-do-drugs days, a friend and I went to see <i>The Exorcist</i> on LSD - this was back when the movie first hit theaters ('74?).
Anyway - at the last minute, we decided to not take the acid.

Good decision.

Saw it because of this post. Overall it wasn't that scary, but the calligraphy lesson and the elevator-scene (floor 15, second elevator) was really scary.

i haven't seen a lot of scary movies.. i just don't like getting that creepy scared feeling.. but the scaries i remember are Children of the Corn and The Ring... I didn't want to be alone for two weeks after watching the ring!

HAHAHAHAHA....... lmao..... thats some scary shit....... hahahah.... I crack myself up......

Scary movies don't necessarily scare me while I watch them but later when I try to go to sleep the dead/killer/monster/any scary scene comes back to me and I can't sleep. Not cool.

The Exorcist and Jaws were the first ones.

Then not until Seven. That movie made me need a few stiff drinks.

Then recently the Ring but not as bad as the first 3.

I can get really freaked out by movies. I've never seen a horror movie, aside from Scream (doesn't really count). I even stopped watching X-Files for a while because the monster-of-the-week was creeping me out too much.
