Dirty Pretty Things...
Just got back from seeing it. As usual when I start a thread about a film, I'm going to assume that, because I liked it so much, no one's ever heard of it.
It stars the girl from Amelie (sp?), and has to do with selling organs on the black market, among other things. Quite darker than Amelie. Post if you've seen. Did you like? I loved it. |
I'll have to look into it. I've been out of touch with the indy/foreign films lately.
|
The girl from Amelie creeps me out....something about her face and EYES...
|
I heard about it and want to see it but since I'm somewhat of a shut in I will put it in my Netflix queue when it comes out on DVD. Already have 200 movies in my list so i have time.
|
I love the girl from Amelie. I've not heard of this movie, but it sounds very interesting. Chances are I won't be able to see it anytime soon though.

She's actually not the main character in this one, but one of the main two. It feels like an independent film, but I saw it at a huge multiplex. Oh, and it is all in english. No subtitles. |
I'm gonna go see it tomorrow (today, I guess)
I forgot to mention, Amelie is my favorite movie, so Audrey Tautou is the #1 motivating factor in seeing this. |
hehe, i like the title. but almost makes me wonder if it wasn't intentional, and the translation was screwed up, that happens to american movies a lkot in foreign countries. it's funny.

Did you? |
I saw this as a Miramax preview. I didn't think it was all that interesting, Okwe (sp?) was an interesting character, but I guess I wasn't really undertanding as to what the whole subplot was (i won't spoil it)
It guess it was a good movie. I will have to see it again and pay a bit more attention to it. |
i just caught it last night and enjoyed watching it. if you're going in with expectations of amelie 2, you're going to be sorely dissapointed, she is a secondary main character. the movie revolves around an illegal immigrant from nigeria and the problems he encounters after coming upon something ugly in the hotel where he works. the movie concentrates on both of them relaizing how bleak their situation is, but capitolizing on what few things pop up to imrpove their lives. I enjoyed the movie, but it's not on my top ten list... you should see it, but perhaps wait until it comes out on dvd if you're not completely jazzed up about catching it now.

It's been in my Netflix queue for months....

There are few women to whom I would express my undieing love for. Audrey Tautou is one of them.
(The others being Cameron Diaz and Laverne). |

I have seen "Amelie", "He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not", and "Dirty Pretty Things" and i liked all three.
Amelie is my favorite romantic\comedy of all time, one of my favorite movies of all time. Hands down. "My Big Fat Stupid Greek Wedding" wishes it was Amelie. HLM,HLMN was nothing like i was expecting. From the read on the jacket it seemed like a quirky romantic comedy. What i got was a psycological film that was presented in a facinating way and i never knew what to expect. Great film, you need to see it. I never looked at Audrey Tatou the same again. Then with Dirty Pretty Things, she wow'd me playing a Turkish woman and did a great accent. Again, she did not play Amelie. Okwe was great, i loved him as a character and he was suberbly acted. I was hooked by this movie from the opening scenes. It's one of the best of the summer, probably the year. Also, this title was not translated as far as i know, since it is a British film. |
Went home to Cleveland over Labor Day weekend to visit realative, but my favorite part was going with my Mom, Sister and Aunt to see some kick ass independents at the Cedar Lee. Got to view Spellbound, American Splendor and Dirty Pretty Things.
Really enjoyed DPT. Audrey Tautou is a talented actress and so damn cute. Can't believe I haven't seen Amelie yet. Especially enjoyed the caracter of Okwe. Towards the end of the film, he's talking to this man in a garage and brings the whole film into sharp focus, for me at least. Nice to spend a day just going to movies, especially at a place as cool as the Cedar Lee. |
Liked DPT but wouldn't see it again. There isn't very much of Audrey Tatou and nothing about her role called for the exceptional acting she's capable of. The actor who played Okwe was really good, though, as well as Senor Huan.
|
Yes, the man who played Okwe was incredibly convincing. What a great actor. I am assuming this will get him plenty of recognition from directors.

/Me resurrects another dead thread...
I watched this movie tonight. While certainly not my favorite movie, it was definitely good. And God, Audrey Tautou is *so* gorgeous. She does it for me. :swoon: |
I've been wanting to see this movie since I first saw it advertised. I keep on missing it though! Thanks for the reminder ;)
