MI-5

Since there is no 24 or Alias on right now, I'm getting my current spy fix from MI-5. Anyone here catch MI-5 on A&E?

I've watched 2 episodes so far, I beleive i have one more on the Tivo. First was hard to watch.. too much brit accent and jargon. The second was pretty good.... good grimacing scene involving a deep fryer and an agent.

Not much in the action department like Alias or 24. More along the lines of thinking and tense drama.

MI-5

Sounds good. I'm a big fan of Alias, so I'll have to try this one out.

so far I've watched or tivo'd all the episodes. It's not a bad thing. Anthony Stewart Head (the Watcher from Buffy) was in one episode... not as over the top as Alias or 24, but it's not a bad way to spend an hour.

I do like the way that it shows the "human" aspect of the spy business, the mundane day to day crap they have to deal with that doesn't seem so contrived like Alias.

What was that brit/american cop show that UPN was doing right after the sesson of Buffy ended (yeah thats right... I watched it... laugh all you want... kung fu + girls + vampires = good) i think it was called Kenny or something wierd.

It was basically a dumbed down TV version of Lock, stock... and snatch.

There was a lock, stock... mini-series, but i don't know if that was released in the US with a different title

There was a six episode run of a US/UK series called Keen Eddie. I watched all of em, then they cancelled it.

I'm pretty sure there must be an anti-Nielsen machine hooked up to my telly, since they do enjoy cancelling every show I watch with any fervor.

Anyways, regarding MI-5, I watched it. It pretty much caught my attention when they took out a primary character in the second episode in a miserable way to go. There's a bit of guts to do that.

I mean, as much as I'd like to see a character in an American drama get taken out suddenly, senselessly, and with little advance fanfare, I dare say that would never happen.

this is my FAVOURITE show!!

like djflish said, its called Spooks here.

i love how real it seems, and how it moves at a fast pace, without confusing me.

is the term spooks not used in the States? is that why they´ve changed the name?

that was gruesome wasn´t it.
i think at that point, i was hooked.

interesting to note that its also my lecturers fave show, since i´ve always thought there was something a little bit spookish about him... but maybe thats just my overactive imagination.

Spooks is a derogatory term to blacks.

It's also a term for CIA operatives as well isn't it?

I seem to remember reading that somewhere....

I've only seen two episodes....the one with Anthony Stewart Head and the episode where Quinn's girlfriend gets blown all to hell.

Pretty good show. I've now got a solid Tuesday night show.

spooks is another name for spies here.

i don't want to spoil it for anybody in the US, but the Series 2 finale is the most gut-wrenching i've seen

A&E ran an MI-5 marathon Sunday a week ago, and now I'm totally addicted. I've taped the season opener and can't wait for tonight. One of the best shows on the tube, from either side of the pond. Fantabulous.

There's no comparison between MI-5 and Alias. Alias had like one or two really intense episodes and that's it. MI-5 is always intense! It's currently my favorite show, although 24 is a close second.

I was just in London and picked up Spooks Season One... they didn't have the rest of them at any places we shopped there otherwise I would have picked them up as well.

Yeah, in the water... I cannot believe that... I also didn't realize that the seasons there are really short, seeing as the season 1 dvd only has 6 episodes on it. Most US shows go around 13-20+ episodes in one season.
