The Matrix... I will be watching Dune sometime this week as I borrowed it from my brother. Hopefully it lives up to my expectations after reading the books and hearing good things about the movie.

There are many others, but these are the ones that came to mind off the top of my head.

KillerYoda 04-22-2003 04:59 PM

Empire Strikes Back.

My name does have "Yoda" in it, and all.

fuelmyfire 04-29-2003 03:11 PM

"2001", also my favourite movie of all time.

That movie does something to me that i have never been able to explain to anyone.

Blade Runner
Star Wars (Any)
Alien 1 + 3
Terminator 1 + 2

Really? I'm surprised about this one... then again, I've only seen it in context of Mystery Science Theater 3000 the movie, so I guess that doesn't really count.

I'd have to say

the Matrix
Minority Report
the original 3 Starwars movies
Dune (both versions had their good points and bad points)
Independence Day (they blow up the white house)

boatin 04-29-2003 09:31 PM

not a big fan of science fiction movies - i've read too much good science fiction. I can't stand explosions in space that make noise. It's the geek in me...

Probably Gattica. They made an effort to make the science feel real, good cast, good dialogue and looked great. Love a mystery/chase film!

rockogre 05-01-2003 08:38 AM

Blade Runner
Alien
The Fifth Element
Star Wars
2001 A Space Odessey
The Matrix

robbo59au 05-01-2003 11:29 PM

No contest..... 2001:A Space Odyssey.

fuelmyfire, I understand what you mean........ damn film changed my life, literally

Loki 05-02-2003 04:13 AM

The beginning sections of Dark City were excellent... but i felt it kinda lost its pace at the end. still, probably one of the best (and definitly one of the most original) sci-fi movies.

The Matrix was pure brilliance. Almost single handedly, it revolutionalised an industry.

Terminator - probably amongst the best movies of all time imo.

AGREED; I rather surprised to see this excellent film mentioned; it is good SciFi, and an interesting, unusual story.

Mandalor 05-04-2003 08:56 AM

you know, I started out thinking that, of course, the caveat "after Star Wars" was understood without saying it in the original subject....but then I really couldn't think of any other sci-fi movies that really moved me. So, I'm gonna have to just stick with the original trilogy, since they are in fact my favorite movies of all time...

oldbob 05-04-2003 09:14 AM

Starship Troopers
Blade Runner
Dark City (although if Dark City's permissible then also Strange Days)
Gattica
David Lynch's Dune
and just for my nick's sake,
The Black Hole (secretly thought it was horrible)

Throw me in for "The Crow". I'm not sure why but I love that flick.

And Zardoz!

Strelich 05-12-2003 10:47 PM

Blade Runner, and I'll also throw in Strange Days and Dark City.

reverendjay 05-13-2003 09:46 PM

I'm going to throw Lifeforce out there, as well as a movie called Saturn 3.

And most important of all... Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

If we're talking tv though... I'd say 'V' and Red Dwarf take the cake.

The Cotb 05-14-2003 06:19 PM

Blade Runner
The Matrix

...and the childhood memories vote: Tron !

Bonesaw 05-16-2003 08:36 PM
