He be a bad motherfucker, yo. Just went and got another one of his. He's horror and SF, separate by book. The Hyperion saga is a great quartet of books. I've also read A Winter Haunting, The Hollow Man, Song of Kali, and his short story collection Prayers to Broken Stones. Plus my friend read Phases of Gravity, and the new one I got is Children of the Night. If you need writer endorsements, Dean Koontz, Stephen King, and Harlan Ellison all consider him to be superb. Now go and clean out your local bookstores.

Song of Kali is one of the scariest, most disturbing books I've ever read, I think.

You have to read Dan Simmons' novel, "Carrion Comfort". It is huge and vast and scary as hell and brilliant. This is my favorite Simmons book. May be intimidating to some, as it is longer than "The Stand" by Stephen King.
