Excellent summer movie. Never took itself too seriously, trying to relay a "deeper message" (except maybe "don't take the cursed dubloons" or "don't play with the damned monkey") Just a overall enteraining movie.

Enjoyed the show, but a little peeved at the family who brought their 4 year old daughter to see the show. Damn kid crapped her pants when the cannonballs started flying, and stank like fucking mad through the rest of the show.
What the hell were they thinking? I made it a point to accidentally kick the back of the dad's chair every fifteen minutes. I was ---------><---------- this close to getting up & escorting them all to Spy Kids 3-D. |

I've seen this movie three times now. I would recommend that you all see it at least three times.
1st time - get amazed by the visual effects and great acting 2nd time - catch on to some plot points you missed the first time, and check out the visual effects again 3rd time - stare at Keira Knightley's hotness

Highly enjoyable all around. Might as well join the flood and gush about Depp as well though, every time he was on camera I just wanted to cheer, he fucking nailed that part.
Have to disagree with most of ya about Keira Knightley though, I kept getting pissed off whenever she was around. Sort felt like the director got told that she had to be on camera for x minutes, no matter what the plot/situation. Maybe I'm getting old, but I'd rather see someone who can act well and didn't just get the part cause she was cookie cutter hot. Anyhow, great movie, well worth the cash. |

I enjoyed how Depp seemed to be channeling the possibly living Keith Richards, and of course, watching a 20 foot tall Keira Knightley wander about in a corset worked well for me too. There's the rest of the movie too, but Ms. Knightley was also the only reason I watched Bend It Like Beckham, so it was also the only reason I watched this movie.

It was a great movie - much better than I thought it was going to be.
And Depp proved that he's a lot better actor than I often give him credit for, for sure. I was expecting the movie to be mediocre at best, but it ended up being a really good flick, mostly because of him. |

This movie was great. Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom played their roles very, very well. and Keira Knightly not only played her part great, she is damn hot to boot! Overall great film-- Action, adventure and the hot damsel in distress, can;t go wrong there.

This is my review of Pirates of the Caribbean, and yes I loved it.
Last night Domino Brooks and I took a trip to see Pirates of the Caribbean. The movie produced by Jerry "Action" Bruckheimer, was surprisingly a swashbuckling good time. It stars Johnny Depp who reprises his role of Hunter S. Thompson AKA Raoul Duke as a pirate. The transition is quite smooth. Its incredible that if you mix 2 parts Hunter S. Thompson with one part Keith Richards you get the perfect pirate. Also starring is Orlando Bloom who reprises his role as Legolas the elf minus the pretty hair and bow and arrow. The lead gal is whats-her-name and I haven't seen her before, but she fits the part of damsel in distress who is craftier than her captors would like to believe and she is really hot. Geoffrey Rush reprises his role of Casanova Frankenstien in Mystery Men as the captain of the cursed pirate ship "The Black Pearl". Apparently Casanova Frankenstien doublecrossed Hunter S. Thompson-Richards and left him stranded on an island while he stole his ship "The Black Pearl." Hunter S. Thompson-Richards is super-pissed and wants his ship back. Cut to the present day Caribbean where Casanova Frankenstien has just run off with Legolas' main squeeze. Legolas is super-pissed and wants his babe back. So he teams up with Hunter S. Thompson-Richards. They go after Casanova Frankenstein and when they catch up with him there is a big to-do over Casanova Frankenstien's curse and how it can only be lifted by dropping Elven blood into this old Aztec box. Hilarity ensues when the Commodore of the British Navy shows up with the entire British fleet and the undead pirate zombies confuse them by cross-dressing, which is always very confusing. There are some great lines such as "if you want pain, try wearing a corset." And Hunter S. Thompson-Richards hysterically gets slapped a total of 24 times while trying to figure out whether or not he actually deserves it. The special effects are spectacular but not over done. They are the best walking skeleton effects that I have seen since the 1963 smash hit dark-comedy known as "Jason and the Argonauts." There is even a very frightening appearance by an undead monkey which has caused me to sleep with a nightlight on last night. To round out the cast they included a tough-as-nails pirate african-american woman, a midget, and a pair of pirate men who are obviously quite in love with eachother. All of which completes the perfect Pirate crew. Its got everything you could ask for in a pirate movie and much much more. I was impressed and had a great time. Casanova Frankestein even shouts "Arrrgh" a couple of times.

Good movie, Johnny Depp is my favorite actor and he didn't let me down. However, the two stupid bad-guy pirates (one had the glass eye) I thought they were a bit too stupid and found my self wishing they would explode every time they came on screen.

Johnny Depp was very good...but what really made it a great movie for me, was the subtle use of some absolutely stunning visual effects.
Spoiler alert **** The fight scene in the cave, with the moonlight occasionally hitting the fighters, blew my mind...so did the fight on the ship, at the same time.. |
