$#*! My Dad Says

I don't know, but William Shatner does a TERRIBLE job of emulating Kurtwood Smith. Maybe it's because I preferred him yelling "Denny Crane" and I just don't see him portraying surly.

I like the entire cast non the less. But then I also watched the episode re-air of The Big Bang Theory so I had very high expectations. That and I kinda didn't like Jonathan Sadowski's initial performance.

What do you guys think?

I don't watch Season premieres. They either
A) Leave me wanting more
B) Leave me underwhelmed, but still curious as to what's next, but since there's no follow up episode to watch yet, I'm stuck with a less than stellar opinion to taint my entire perception of the show.

Example, Mad Men, apparently a popular series.. Downloaded em. watched em, bores me to tears. I watched 5 hours of it too so.. whatever.

Lost: had me entertained thru season 1, Season 2 just, I didn't fucking care anymore because I knew it was gonna drag out for 6 or whatever seasons and it just wasn't any good to me.

BSG: Epic from start to finish I thought.

BBT: I'll wait, generally there is very little continuity in the series as far as an arching storyline, but the relationships seem pertinent at least.

no opinion on SMDS yet but I kinda groaned at the thought of it becoming a tv show, I'm pretty sure you don't need to drag a tweet that takes 3 seconds to read in to a 30 minute episode.

I had the same feelings about Shatner when partnered up with Heather Locklear in TJ Hooker. I preferred him over-acting as a starship captain rather than over-acting as a cop. It just didn't fit.

Heather on the other hand.....

I watched it, and I like Shatner, but I'm not sure this show will make it.

Plus, I have plenty of other things to do, and need to reduce the amount of TV I watch.

I had fairly high expectations for this show, and after the premiere I feel let down. The jokes seemed forced and unoriginal, but I'll test my opinions on episode two.

Xerxys 09-24-2010 06:54 PM

^^Y'know, I can't help but think the scripts could have been so much better delivered had they gone with another cast.

I object to the title. I know it's the name of the Twitter feed, but I find it totally inappropriate for network television.

The premiere was brutal. The actor playing his son was terrible and the jokes were horrible. I am a Canadian and love Shatner but this was just bad television.

hunnychile 09-25-2010 01:03 PM

It really sucked the big Hoagie.

Cynthetiq 09-25-2010 02:05 PM

I started reading the book this morning, about 50% of the way through and figured I'd watch to compare. I found it had the words and scenes, but not the actual character in the book.

I think that it could have some merit if the MoKut and company can get the same kind of writing caliber they did for Will & Grace it may go some place.

I didn't care for any of the characters to begin with, save Dad.

They're calling it "Stuff My Dad Says" in commercials and promos. But yeah, the first time I saw that I thought, "are they allowed to do that?"

Fremen 09-25-2010 07:30 PM

They need to pair Shat with the DMV guy, instead of the younger son.
More laughs.

They had to do that because apparently it broke the recording function of DVR devices to try and record a show that started with symbols.

I really didn't like this show. The dialog was forced and for a the entire show to be about and named after the character's dialog it has to be great and it has to flow beautifully.

kutulu 09-27-2010 09:28 AM

I didn't watch it but I expect it to be another typical forced network style sitcom.

What he said.

While watching a commercial for next week's episode, it looked like they changed the actor that plays the younger son to another actor, so I went in search of some info.

The series was picked up by CBS in May 2010,[12] with reports saying that the role of Henry (played by Ryan Devlin in the pilot) would be recast.[13][14] In July, Jonathan Sadowski was cast in the role.[15]

MoonDog 09-28-2010 02:35 PM

Yea, I agree with many here that the premiere wasn't that strong.

Cynthetiq 09-28-2010 03:35 PM

I just finished the book. It was much better than the series premiere.

Shadowex3 09-28-2010 05:05 PM

I just dont think Shatner's the right guy for this. Yes the whole "Denny Crane" thing was close but still really different. That was him on a stage and hamming it up, I'd expect this to be more of the 3 seconds later "did he actually just say that?!" type thing. They need someone with a good deadpan.
