has anyone read any of the darren shan books, or seen the first movie? what do you think of it

They're simple books of course (meant for a young audience) but surprisingly good for adults too. I've read the vampire ones as well as the demonata (spelling?) ones. Never saw the movie, looked bad and didn't want to spoil the image in my head.
