Better than Lucasfilm? Fan-made lightsaber duels
I've seen them before: fan-made lightsaber duels. They're usually funny in their "bunch 'a kids foolin' around with a camera and a computer" kind of way. But they're usually pretty cheesy, and the choreography and acting are so bad that you can barely call them as much. (Star Wars Kid, anyone?)
However, I saw one of these videos pop up on my YouTube radar and the still image caught my attention. I clicked it, but I was skeptical. Um...I was impressed! I actually got chills when watching Concrete Hustle. And then I watched some Ryan/Dorkman productions, and there was more! I can't believe how well done these are. I mean, they're just lightsaber duels; they aren't feature films or anything...there's no story or whatever. But these are some of the best lightsaber duels I've seen ever....and they aren't even Star Wars! I lost my faith in Lucasfilm with the disaster that was Episodes I through III. But this stuff has renewed my faith in the Force! Check 'em out!

I saw the RvD videos a long time ago and love them. We all know that the lightsaber fights were the best part of any star wars film and these guys wanted to jump on making just a lightsaber fight. I love seeing well made saber fights like this, editing the films to do all the special effects is not easy. Kudios to them.
Also, it's a great way to show off editing talents, kinda of like a virtual resume. |

Its been a wile sense I have watched any Saber duels I use to look for them a lot in the past hence i have seen a good many. But i have never seen any to this quality, when you find good one all you want to do is watch more. And now is no different. I want more. I think its time to start looking again. Guru if you know of anymore great ones like this would you be so kind as to post them here or PM them to me.

I'd seen Ryan Vs. Dorkman, but the other ones are new to me. It's pretty spectacular to see what a bunch of guys can do basically in their spare time and on a shoestring budget.
Compare and contrast with the 'real' duel from Episode One: Although I'm actually of the opinion that the fight scenes in the prequel trilogy were one of the things that were well done, it's interesting to note the cinematic choices. The duel between the two jedi and Darth Maul consists of a lot of wide angle shots that take away the real personal aspect of it, which I think removes some of the tension. The fan videos consist almost entirely of close shots, in contrast. Just my two cents.
