Popular Television's Opening Theme - A Medley
 

This is entirely late in featuring, but seeing as I only found it some ten-odd days ago, (and waited until now to share it) it shouldn't matter as much when you were exposed to this, so long as you had the chance.


Comments, gripes, opinions are welcome. Which was your favorite segment? If I'd have done one of these, I'd have rather started the ensemble of with some Good Times, but that is just one soul.

(I know this may seem asinine, seeing as the overwhelming majority of common sense is currently smacking me upside the head not to even mention this, not to mention how both instrumentalists are beyond a doubt perhaps one and the same, but I still got the vibe that the black-shirt-keyboard-vocalist was foreign (-sounding) , yet his guitar-wielding doppleganger'd compatriot to the right, however, was not.)

100% the same person, and both performances have a hint of his accent.

I particularly liked the True Blood > Charles in Charge transition :p

I love the Cheers and Firefly theme songs.

Sometimes you just wanna go where everybody knows your name... I was too young to enjoy the show in it's day but that theme has always struck a cord with me.(Yeah that saying should be taken behind the barn and shot thread)

I agree with you on the Cheers intro, Reese; that is just an iconic opening theme, definitely in my slanted top 10 of all-time, I think (despite the fact I may have only watched 4-6 whole episodes of the entire series, I always loved the theme).

Don't know what else the kid could have added, as I don't watch too many tv shows nowadays, nor realize which series actually use "original" scores to come up with their opening chimes. I take it he added what he liked, and what was familiar to him, instead of going the route of trying to appeal / appease to his particular audience (which would be all but impossible... yet I still try? I'm foolish.)

That'd be quite a coincidence if he was somehow associated with this Fredrik Larsson.

(and I was thinking he was Nordic / Baltic in origin as well, not just by name, which I forgot instantly until right now, though more to do with his on-off-again accent, as well as his bone structure / facial features.)

Not all of the songs used in the TV medley are originals. Off the top of my head, Love and Marriage (yes, that one) is an old Frank Sinatra tune that was written as a satire of, well, love and marriage, while God Only Knows is a Beach Boys tune that predates that show that it's on (the Mormon one, yeah?)

I actually enjoyed the second one more, possibly because I don't watch that much television myself and so some of the references were a bit beyond me. Even so, I liked some of the interpretations in the 8 minute medley and thought they could be fleshed out into some decent covers with a bit of work. I'd imagine he's already done that, but it'd be fun to hear the results.

Most TV shows these days don't have original theme songs: The OC (Phantom Planet's "California"), True Blood (Jace Everett's "Bad Things"), That 70's Show (Big Star's "In the Street," but the version used on the show is performed by Cheap Trick with some changes), Freaks and Geeks (Joan Jett's "Bad Reputation"), Friends (The Rembrandts' "I'll Be There for You"), even Naruto's theme song is unoriginal (Asian Kung-Fu Generation's "Haruka Kanata"). Anyway, I'm not sure why it matters - they're still the TV show theme songs ;)
