Gaspar Noé's "Enter the Void"

Is anyone else looking forward to this movie? It's the next film by Gaspar Noé, who wrote and directed Irréversible (trailer). Apparently, Enter the Void will be even more visceral, and probably even more polarizing.

Quote:
Oscar and his sister Linda, recent arrivals in Tokyo. Oscar is a small time drug dealer, and Linda works as a nightclub stripper. One night, Oscar is caught up in a police bust and shot. As he lies dying, his spirit, faithful to the promise he made his sister - that he would never abandon her - refuses to abandon the world of the living. His spirit wanders through the city, his visions growing evermore distorted, evermore nightmarish. Past, present and future merge in a hallucinatory maelstrom.

If that doesn't grab you, the score is composed by one half of Daft Punk, Thomas Bangalter, who also scored Irréversible. The opening credits (which are set to "Freak" by LFO, not Bangalter's score) were recently put online, and they only make me more anxious for this film to be released in the US.

(As with Irréversible, people who are susceptible to epileptic seizures need not apply. In other words, if that's you, don't watch )

Those credits are great. This will be a tough watch. I hope nobody intending to see Toy Story 3 wanders into this by accident.

Heh, I don't think anyone will have to worry about that, this movie will probably only get a very limited release.

It'll be interesting to see this in a theatre. I've only seen Noé's movies on the small screen, and even then some of the cinematic effects he employs can get difficult. Try watching the above credits on full screen without looking away even once (but seriously, don't if you've ever had an epileptic seizure ). I've read about people seeing Irréversible in the theatre and getting nauseous, not strictly because of the content, but also because of the spinning camera angles and low frequency drone of the score. Noé set out to make that movie physically unsettling to heighten the natural physical revulsion one feels toward the events, almost in an A Clockwork Orange sense (the plot, not the movie). I've seen some indications that he sought to take that idea even further with this movie.

I'll be surprised if it's as arresting as Irreversible. Shellshocked - that's how I'd describe my state after seeing that (which was on the SMALL screen). There's nothing like lengthy steadicam sequence shots to make you feel like you're in amongst the action. Traditional style editing provides a safety gap between the audience and the film, without that it's like watching (or being involved in) something live and real.

Completely agreed. I just figure if that's how Noé can make me feel on the small screen, I can only imagine what it's like on the big screen.

It's been years since I saw Irreversible, and I'm still not quite ready to watch it again! It was a very powerful experience. This looks to be similar, just watching the trailer on my small computer made me feel slightly dizzy, who knows what the full experience will be like! I really like the way there are bright neon colors imposed over everything, really makes it "feel" like Tokyo.
