I'll second Jackie Brown. I also think Gattaca doesn't get enough credit as being one of the better Sci-Fi movies in recent years. For me, Equilibrium is strictly an action movie with a futuristic, "Big Brother" type setting thrown in for good measure. For it's budget though, it was very well done.

I agree with the comments about Kevin Smith's movies. Sam Rami has also done some quite good films (Darkman, Evil Dead Trilogy, Crimewave) I even liked "For love of the Game" but my all time underrated movie has to be "Office Space", it's so much more than a comedy, this movie really changed my life. I worked in an office for 10 years, watched the movie, and now I'm at work at Home Depot, I will never work in an office again. True story.

Oh, where do I begin????

Let's see.....

"Better Off Dead" (CLASSIC CUSACK!!!)

"Dogma" - it's GREAT! Nothing is too sacred to be poked at. Thank you Kevin!!!!

"PCU"...You just can't knock Jeremy Piven in this movie!

"I'm Gonna Get You Sucka'" (Keenan Ivory Wayans' stab at the Blacksploitation movies of the 70's.)

"Strange Brew" (I could comment on this, but I'd need a whole new thread to get it right).

"Goonies" (Call it a quirk....I love that movie even now).

"The Ref" (Denis Leary rocks!)

I'm sure I could come up with more, but why bother?

I'm glad I'm not the only one here that thought Hudson Hawk was funny.

Also I think that movies by the Cohen brothers in general get overlooked, Fargo, Barton Fink, Millers Crossing. The last 2 were just released on DVD like a month ago..geez.

MIRACLE MILE

The movie's not just underrated but forgotten. It's been on cable the past couple nights otherwise I probably wouldn't have thought of it.

I'm not saying it's the best movie, but it has a uniqueness that deserves to be recognized. The director did the higher profile but less than mediocre Cherry 2000 which I'm betting is why noone remembers this one.

Cube absolutely blew me away when I first saw it. Fantastic film! Too bad the sequel didn't come close to living up to it, but how many do.

Election is way under-rated too. One of the few movies that after it ended I was glad I got dragged to it!

i don't understand why office space got such poor reviews. it wasn't an incredible movie or anything, but more funny than recent martin lawrence crap and rated just as poorly.

Event Horizon -- Yes! This is my favorite sci-fi movie that-makes-no-sense. Highly underrated.

Meet the Feebles -- brought to you by the maker of LOTR

Gigli -- heh, I just kid.

I agree with you. I just bought it a few weeks (it just got released) ago the 2 disc special edition. Its a lot better than the version released in the US. Great cast. Rovert De Niro, James Woods, Joe Pesci, Treat Williams and Burt Young. Definitely worth a look if you haven't seen it.

Fifth Element
Se7en
Heat - too long but the scene with Al Pacino and Robert De Niro is classic.
The Professional
Road to Perdition
Nemesis - best Star Trek movie

Nightbreed, adapted from Clive Barker's short story. Awesome flick, no press, no support for the sequel.

And I will say that Meet the Feebles pretty much lives up to the hype surrounding it, but I'd call it more of a cult classic than an underrated movie. For underrated Pete Jackson I'd go with Dead Alive. The worst best horror movie ever made.

Oh, and all of the movies that have already been mentioned. You guys are pretty much on my wavelength here.

Ok
Other than Remo Williams, my list as follows:

Krull: Oh come on! BA movie!

Requim for a Dream: IF you haven't seen this movie, RENT IT NOW.

The Kevin Smith movies I would say are generally underrated.

Big Trouble in Little China: DEFINATLY

YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN: one of the less-known Mel-Brooks movies. Brilliant piece of work.

"Enemy at the Gates" - While it was a box office and rental success, it never gets a mention on great movie lists anywhere.
It has a great beginning, a great middle bit and a great end. The three essential ingredients for any great movie.

One of my all time favourites of all time.

The Hulk. I thought it was the best comic book hero movie of the last few years. I really enjoyed the way ang lee directed the movie with the split panes to make it look more comic book like. It kicked much ass. Cant wait till it comes out on DVD.
