Sherlock Holmes

I have been looking forward to this since I heard about it and I just saw the trailer wooohooo

Anyone else excited about it? I plan on being in the theater Christmas Day to see it

Baraka_Guru 12-07-2009 03:27 PM

I've totally wanted to see this since I first saw the trailer a number of week ago.

I'll probably see this over the holidays.

ShaniFaye 12-07-2009 03:37 PM

I hate I cant find the trailer they showed on tv...it had him all tied to a bed!!

Baraka_Guru 12-07-2009 03:40 PM

This is Trailer #1 (and the first one I saw). I like it best. It has the bed scene in it.

thank you!!

You know... all I see when I look at this are Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law... I don't see Holmes and Watson. I see two popular movie stars. This could be any fucking movie.

ShaniFaye 12-07-2009 03:53 PM

well you dont have to go see it :p

I adore Robert

levite 12-07-2009 05:40 PM

I am cautiously optimistic. On the one hand, I think this re-envisioning is interesting, and I love RDJ and Jude Law; on the other hand, I am not wild about the idea of Holmes as ladies' man-- that seems to just directly contradict the character in the canon for no reason-- and I hate Guy Ritchie.

Will it balance out? I don't know. But I certainly plan to go see.

I dunno. I some how see this as Wild Wild West 2: The London Stories. I was excited when I heard they we working on it. I was excited when I heard the casting. I was no longer excited when I saw the trailer.

I don't know why that's what I think of, but I do for some reason. I'm a big Sherlock Holmes fan and I just don't see them as Holmes and Watson.

You know, as soon as I read this it hit me just how accurate that description is. It had been nagging at me every time I see the previews.

I mean, I've been reading the original stories in bits and pieces over the past couple months, but even so the movie doesn't seem to be all that true to the actual stories even taking into account that it is supposedly an entirely original plot.

Looks really cool, though. Would probably be better with Hugh Laurie as Holmes, though that might be too obvious a choice

I read it being described as being very faithful to the old stories by contrast with the 100 years or so of unfaithful adaptations - but I don't know if this was tongue in cheek or sincere. I wouldn't have cast these two as Holmes and Watson but I'm really excited by the trailers. I really rate Guy Ritchie and the cast is good - especially Jude Law and Rachel McAdams - and I can see Downey Jr doing quite a flamboyant, Willy Wonka-ish Holmes.... hmm. I'm fairly certain it's going to be better than both Without A Clue and Young Sherlock Holmes but I'm equally sure I won't like it as much as those old Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce ones.

ShaniFaye 12-08-2009 03:15 PM

I LOVED Young Sherlock Holmes...when it came out...havent seen it in years though so I dont know how I'd like it as an adult

oliver9184 12-08-2009 04:03 PM

You can watch all of Young Sherlock Holmes on you tube - though it is a pile of shit when you watch it as an adult, except for this part:

Skip to about 3:30 to see the cakes come to life and bully Watson.

LordEden 12-08-2009 04:32 PM

Yeah, saw this preview a while ago on the net... this has GI Joe written all over it. To much action and not much of anything else.

So who saw the movie? Went with the wife last night and we both really enjoyed it. Looking forward to the sequels!

ironpham 01-05-2010 07:56 AM

Yeah, I saw it. Really loved the fight scenes at the beginning. Wish they had used that stuff for the later fights.

Daval 01-05-2010 08:27 AM

Yeah, I was totally hoping for that with the fights with the giant and Blackwood.

m0rpheus 01-05-2010 08:51 PM

It was nice to see a Watson who wasn't a bumbling idiot.
