Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland

Update: New Images From Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland! - ComingSoon.net

Quote:

From Yahoo! Movies come two more photos, one of Mia Wasikowska as Alice and the other of Matt Lucas as Tweedledee and Tweedledum. They've been added below!

USA Today has published new images from Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland featuring Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, and Anne Hathaway as the White Queen. Also included are three more pieces of concept art.

The article explains that the March 5, 2010 release, co-starring Michael Sheen, Mia Wasikowska, Matt Lucas, Crispin Glover, Stephen Fry and Alan Rickman, is almost like a sequel to the original story:

The traditional tale has been freshened with a blast of girl power, courtesy of writer Linda Woolverton (Beauty and the Beast). Alice, 17, attends a party at a Victorian estate only to find she is about to be proposed to in front of hundreds of snooty society types. Off she runs, following a white rabbit into a hole and ending up in Wonderland, a place she visited 10 years before yet doesn't remember.
Thoughts? Opinions?

It looks like the visuals will be mind-blowing. I'm guessing the stills aren't doing them justice, and I can't wait to see them alive on the big screen.

I'm pleased with the casting.

I don't know what to think about the approach to the story. I hope it works. I really do. It does have me a bit concerned, but I will go in with keen interest.

Jetée 06-23-2009 01:00 PM

I am looking forward to it, as of today.

Also, what am I missing about the relationship between Burton, Depp, and Bonham Carter?

settie 06-23-2009 01:07 PM

Hey! awesome, more word on this movie.

I'm excited for it.

I remember reading the alice novels back as a kid.

The world of wonderland is so open to interpretation. And I know in Burton's creative hands, it will truly stretch the imagination.

:D Can't wait!

Well, HBC and Burton have been living in sin for about 8 years, and have a kid together, and Depp & Burton have been good friends for around 20 years.

I really hope this is good, because it seems like a good fit. But then again Charlie and the Chocolate Factory had me excited as well, and that turned out to be a big turd.

I almost would have rather seen American McGee's version of Alice get the big screen treatment.

CinnamonGirl 06-23-2009 02:23 PM

hmmmm. Looks interesting. I like the casting... not so much liking the Mad Hatter's costume.

Think I'm going to go reread the book soon.

Edit--and I also hope it turns out better than Charlie & the Chocolate Factory.

jewels 06-23-2009 02:44 PM

Thanks, Shauk!

I'm a Lewis Carroll fan (years ago someone bought me collectors' editions of the two Alice books) for sure. Add Burton, Depp and Helena? I'm excited!

Charlatan 06-23-2009 03:36 PM

I really want to like Tim Burton. He picks great subject. He has a strong visual sense. He knows how to cast.

But the guy is weak on story structure. His films often fall apart in the second act. He also has no respect for source material.

I will eventually see this on TV or through a rental by my family but I have given up on Burton. I don't really want to see his films anymore.

Me too! I was talking to my SO about that same relationship.

Johnny Depp more so than Helena, but interesting.

+1 *Flush*

John Falcon 06-24-2009 01:38 AM

So is Johnny Depp in this movie too? ;)

never mind...actually "read" and answering my own question.

looks creepy as usual.

Reese 06-24-2009 02:45 AM

Wow those sets looks spectacular. Mad Hatter looks more like Elijah Wood than Johnny Depp imo.

I hope it's good. Tim Burton has some great flicks but he's not incapable of producing some stupid movies.

Tim, Come on, quit burtonizing everything and give us another original screenplay that isn't stop motion.

Xazy 06-24-2009 04:20 AM

I am looking very forward to it, I have been a huge tim Burton fan, despite not loving the willy wonka remake (except for the munchkin!).

Magpie_1 06-24-2009 05:27 AM

Ok I'm ashamed to say this is the first I've heard of this film remake. I'm a big fan of films being on the strange side. This one looks right up my ally. I've always been a fan of Alice In Wonderland. Hopefully this movie doesn't ruin the story for me.

genuinegirly 06-24-2009 05:51 AM

Beautiful images! This is the first I've heard of it. I'm looking forward to it.

Baraka_Guru 06-24-2009 05:57 AM

The more I think of it, the more I'm looking forward to HBC's enlarged head.

What a genius idea, enlarging HBC's head. What beautiful, beautiful imagery.

highdro69 06-27-2009 02:34 PM

So the cast look incredible, and such a story has, literally, a million different amazing possibilities, but good god Tim Burton is just awful.

Baraka_Guru 06-27-2009 02:51 PM

Except for a few questionable works, I think Tim Burton does generally well with this kind of stuff. I can't imagine many others I'd rather see make this film. It certainly could have been off worse.

As for Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, it's not as bad as some of you are making it out to be. I'm willing to bet you're letting the previous version influence your thoughts on the newer one. It was generally good; it just wasn't as good as the other. Some didn't like Depp's portrayal of Wonka. I, on the other hand, thought it was a fresh take that worked.

I was recently amazed at the realization that the man who played the Oompa Loompas was the same guy who played Teeny Weeny, the guy who rode the racing snail in The Neverending Story. But I digress.

I'm looking forward to Burton's, Depp's, and Bonham-Carter's work on Alice.

Shauk 06-27-2009 04:50 PM

speaking of tim burton, anyone seen the trailer for "9" ?

cellophanedeity 06-28-2009 07:35 PM

Even if he turns the story into tripe, if it looks anything like the teaser shots, I'm going to love it.

Absolutely beautiful.

If you want a thrill, watch the original

It is 10 minutes long, and damned well worth all of them.

Shauk 07-02-2009 01:31 AM

Yeah considering Shane Acker is listed as the visionary director, I would assume he had something to do with it :p

thespian86 07-02-2009 01:05 PM

You mean Depp still does talkies? Since when!?

It's been minutes since I saw him in ten different films.

DaniGirl 07-02-2009 01:10 PM

Great casting, any movie with Jonny Depp has to be awesome!!!

From Hell, Nick of Time, Astronaut's Wife, Secret Window?

I'm not saying he's bad. It was just a cynical quip. I generally assume the movie isn't going to be a complete waste of time but just like Burton, Depp has a couple of poor films in his filmography. Personally, I enjoyed his films like Ed Wood, Benny and Joon, What's eating Gilbert Grape more than Pirates.

A truly great actor can only do so much with a lousy script, other than to keep you watching so you can bitch about it. I think his non-commercial films help balance those overly commercial pieces. If you haven't seen Dead Man or The Brave you must! Not the best movies but proof of incredible acting because you absolutely must sit through it.

Bear Cub 07-04-2009 06:21 AM

I just wish my job didn't drug test, because tripping balls would be the ideal state of mind in which to see this movie when it's released.

Xazy 07-24-2009 08:22 AM

Preview of it

Thankfully mine doesn't! ^_^

Video removed :(

Can't wait to see the movie. Johnny Depp looks amazing and I almost didn't recognize Anne Hathaway.

I agree wholeheartedly with this. American McGee's Alice would be truly bad ass on the screen.

I'm fairly confident this has not been posted before:

'Alice in Wonderland' Trailer

Shauk 12-17-2009 04:41 PM

i still prefer

mrklixx 12-18-2009 12:06 AM

This preview makes me actually interested in seeing this now. I did not realize that it was a new storyline. I was alot more "meh" when I thought it was just Burton visuals on top of the traditional story.

Same here. I've never had a preview clip so thoroughly change my opinion of a movie. I definitely plan to see it.
