Buffy movie-- but not in a good way.
Story here.

Sigh. I was all excited when I heard "Buffy movie." But this just sounds lame. And being as big of a Buffy fan as I am, it hurts me a little to say that. |
"Buffy" to me always was the original movie. I haven't seen a single episode of the television series.
I hope they cast Paul Rubens again. |
This *could* be interesting but I really doubt it. The Kuzui's made an OK 'B' film but Whedon gave it a soul.
I am shocked that Glen Larson (ancient one that he is) thinks rebooting BSG back to the 70s series is a good idea given the amazing success of the new series. I can't believe either of these is going to get the funding needed to get off the ground. |

Funny you should mention that... Paul Reubens was my favorite from the movie. Didn't he die, though? I remember his arm getting torn off... I DID like the original movie. I like the TV series SO much better, though. And, while I liked Star Trek, I remember thinking, "hmmmm, how many other fandoms are they gonna try this on?" Buffy without Joss, though? That's just wrong. |

Star Trek? Never seen an episode or a movie in 32 years of my life, don't plan on it either, now Star Wars, that was the shit back in the day.. |
I liked the original film, probably better than I liked the series; the only Whedon I really liked was the Firefly/Serenity stuff.
|
I dont care what anyone else says, its not Buffy if there is no James Marsters playing Spike hmph
I liked the movie, didnt love it....and I still lament that the tv show is over |

The article I just read confirms that the funding is not in place for this yet. It also suggests that they are not looking to replicate Buffy but rather look at other Slayers in the Buffyverse. In other words, either do a reboot or just tell other stories. Regardless, it has some interesting possibilities, I just don't think the current creative team is up to it. They'd better hire a better director than Kaz Kuzui and a hell of a great writer. |
Soooo...no Alyson?
Kill them. Kill them all. |
IF if if...and I stress if...they do stories about other slayers in the Buffyverse, and stick to the paradigm established in the series; and if they get a veteran of the series, like Marti Noxon, David Greenwalt, David Fury, Jane Espenson, or Douglas Petrie to write and direct the film; and if they don't hack and slash that person's screenplay and director's cut from here to hell and back....
...then maybe, maybe...just maybe it MIGHT not suck. Other than that, no way. It'll blow. And the idea of doing a BSG movie based on the original '80s series is arguably the stupidest idea I have ever heard. |
Wow. This is the most horrible idea since I don't even know what. I still can't believe that anyone would intentionally do a Buffy reboot.
Everyone has pretty much already expressed my feelings towards this, but there's one more thing: reboots have to be for moribund or terrible franchises. BSG worked because, lets face it, the original wasn't very good. And it was essentially dead. The new Star Trek reboot worked because that franchise hadn't done anything right in like 15 years. Buffy, on the other hand, is basically perfect (more or less) and is still running in comics. And the show was a reboot of - a terrible, moribund movie! Besides, hasn't anyone seen Twilight? That's basically Buffy for 11-year old girls. And then Alan Ball made True Blood, which is like a southerner who loved but didn't quite get Buffy trying to remake it for HBO. (True Blood features a young heroine with superpowers who's surrounded by helpful friends, included a were-thing, and falls in love with a centuries old mysterious brooding vampire who is good in contrast to all of the evil vampires. She even reads minds, but can't read her lover vampire's mind. This is also known as the episode "Ear Shot" from Buffy Season 3.) So crappy versions of Buffy are already littering the media landscape. By the way, my avatar is taken from a Buffy comic cover. It's of Buffy strangling her own image. Somehow I think it is appropriate here. |

No Joss = Me not seeing this period.

Whoops, you're right. I forgot - I had mistakenly thought it was an alt. cover from the one-off with the Buffy look-alike who dies in an underground battle. Still a great painting though. |
The Kuzuis fucked the movie up so bad that Joss didn't want to be associated with it. It sucks that because those two a-holes butchered Joss's vision that they got the rights to the franchise. Throughout the series, they have been credited as "Executive Producers" but the only work they did was to cash paychecks.
I don't think I'll be seeing this. |
Wait....
Is the series really that good? |

It improves every season till the end. 7 season of greatness. And if you can, try to watch Angel (tv serie) in sync with the Buffy series if you can as they match up for a ton of characters! |

I disagree with Mexican, though...I wasn't overly fond of season 7. Even so, it DOES have a couple of my favorite episodes. Maybe I just need to go back and rewatch it; I didn't like season 4 until I watched the whole thing all the way through, marathon-style. |
I also say that it really was that good. I think, however, that it peaked in Season 3, and that Season 6 was almost unwatchable.

Not everyone likes Season 6 but I thought much of it was one of the best seasons in the whole series. Season 5 was my least favourite.
And of all the shows Joss Whedon has done, Buffy is still my favourite. Firefly might have become that had it been allowed to continue. |
I have very mixed feelings on Season 6. it has some spectacularly cool stuff (I love dark Willow, Once More with Feeling, Spike and Buffy, among others) but I desperately hate Warren, Andrew and Jonathan as the bad guys. Everything about them and their episodes just ends up making me angry, which ends up being much of that season. I have zero love for how the Anya and Xander storyline plays out, too, and even having watched it a bunch of times still can't come up with a good reason for how things play out other than "because Joss decided it would be."
That said, our purchase of the Buffy and Angel box sets was without question one of our best decisions in terms of rewatchable, enjoyable TV. I think the only thing I play more often is Arrested Development, and that only because it's much more quick and digestable. It |
The Triad was really just a distraction for them. The villans of Season 6 are themselves. They were all self-destructive at various parts of the season but in the end they were able to pull it back together to fight. The likely reason why people didn't like S6 as much is that crazy things happen all season and most of them show the characters' weak sides.

Buffy: 1-3 Seasons Hulu has the first three seasons in good quality for everyone to watch for free. Check it out, it's worth watching. I agree 100% with Bill O'Rights, no Allison, no watchy. I'll be standing behind him with a torch of my own. |

Why in Hell would you want to go see a movie, paying a god-awful amount of money, just to see the same damn story you could see for free on TV? It's idiotic. I'm lookin at you Star Trek and Simpson's fans......
The original movie was a better story, IMO. I kinda like the show at first, but towards the end it was just a damned soap opera with witches and vampires. Firefly = greatness |
