2009 Fall TV Renewals and Cancellations
How did your favorite shows fare in the current culling?
Sad to see cancelled The Unusuals The Unit Terminator : The Sarah Connor Chronicles Happy to see renewed Castle The Mentalist Dollhouse Fringe Chuck Lie To Me Of course these don't include the behemoths like Lost and CSI(s) that were shoe-ins. The dilema I have is whether to go ahead and watch recorded episodes of cancelled shows, or just delete them.

Canceled
• Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles is gone, which really sucks. The show had some very original and interesting writing, but moreover it had some surprisingly good acting for an action drama. It's a shame Fox wasn't willing to give the show a decent time slot. And it's a shame that they went off on that odd three-dots thing, I think that turned off a lot of fans. • Life is canceled, which really surprised me. I didn't really follow the show's ratings, I guess I just assumed I wasn't the only person watching. The premise was interesting, but it was the classic paring of the main characters of crazy Cruise and stoic Reese that worked really well. • Kings. Damn it, NBC. • Pushing Daisies was the quintessential quaint, G-rated show. I think its cancellation really signifies an end to that kind of show, which is a shame. Renewed, but in dire straights • Dollhouse is hanging on by the skin of its teeth. It's time for Joss to be his Jossiest. Renewed, and safe • Heroes has been renewed, though its ratings are still slipping. As is the writing. I'll watch, but something tells me this is going to keep getting worse. • Fringe didn't really hook me until towards the end of the season, but I'm glad it's coming back. The parallel worlds thing managed to reveal itself very well. • Lost, of course, will return with its final season in 2010, which would be outstanding and incredibly confusing. • Sons of Anarchy was renewed, and it sounds like this season is going to have even more depth and character than the last. My hope is that this can really act as a replacement for The Shield in FX's lineup, even though it's a good show in its own right. • Caprica, which I see as a renewal of Battlestar in a way, will be starting up early next year, probably a bit after Lost comes back. I expect, based on the DVD pilot, that this will be just as successful and wonderful as BSG. • True Blood... I didn't get into this series like other people did, but it wasn't bad. I'm hoping this next season will be a bit more interesting. |

Fringe - It took the entire first season to present their substantial background infromation. Looking forward to future seasons.
Dollhouse - if they had better actors, it might have stood a chance to be successful. I like the concept behind the series. Sadly, I don't see it succeeding past its second season.

It sucks to see Kath & Kim go. The few episodes I caught were hilarious.

I didn't list Pushing Daisies, Eli Stone, or Kings in my "Sad to see cancelled" because they all had been cancelled earlier in the season.

Out of all the Joss shows to get renewed, Dollhouse is the one that makes the cut? *grumblegrumble*
Very glad to see another season of Big Bang Theory, though.

Very glad to see that Chuck was renewed... even if season two hasn't aired here yet.

It's not the TV networks I'm angry at, it's the idiots who watch American Idol, Dancing with The Stars, Lost and other crappy shows instead of the better shows that have been canceled.
Now, some of the shows that were canceled deserved to be, but I would watch any of those shows over the most 'popular' weekly show on TV any day. Then again, the networks aren't making any money off of me (or at least the shouldn't be) because my Linux DVR removes the commercials for me... I guess the good news is that I just got 3 hours of my life back each week since I don't need to watch those shows on TV anymore. |

I only watch 3 shows - Lost, House, and Life. Now it looks like I'll just be watching Lost and House. Damn it, I loved Life. Damian Lewis kicks ass.

Yay for not having to change my viewing habits this year!

I liked it, but I don't think the show was that great - and for a show about an uber-scientist, it had its share of inaccuracies.
I sure will miss Marley Shelton, though. She was the quintessential eye candy. I TiVo'd every episode. I'm real sorry to read that Life was canceled - I absolutely loved the last 5 minutes of the season finale - the scenery, the action, the music, the narration. Perfect. (Speaking of eye candy - the subplot with Reese going to the FBI was because Sarah Shahi was pregnant - and I bet that was responsible for a loss of many viewers) I'm also disappointed that Life on Mars got canceled. It never really had a chance to gain its audience. Yes - the writers' strike killed a lot of shows, didn't it? Ahhhh, irony - gotta love it. Quote:
I will personally come over and slap the back of the head of anyone who even considers watching an episode.

I gave TV a break last night and just listened to my mp3 player.
It made me realize another reason I'm really, really sad to see that Life was canceled. They picked some great music for their opening and closing scenes. If it wasn't for Life, I never would have learned of some good songs like Calla's It Dawned on Me, Syntax's Pride, Earlimart's The World, or even a great cover of Britney's Hit Me Baby by Travis (turns out if you take the "Pop" out of it, it's a pretty good song). And many more. And Grasshopper Green is right - Damien Lewis was perfect in the role of Crews. And Sarah Shahi's Reese was a perfect complement to his character. What great chemistry! I guess that's why One Plus One Equals One. Maybe it will find a reincarnation on USA, like Law and Order: Criminal Intent. Wouldn't that be Zen?

But, to show you how out of it I've been - I didn't even know King finally finished the series. I think I gave up after The Wastelands in the 90s.
