Attention all Manga readers!

I'm looking for a new manga to read. I just finished Death Note which was my first series that got me hooked on this stuff. I really enjoyed the story and the art in this one. Can anyone suggest any other highly rated mangas? I'm looking forward to going to Chapters tomorrow and picking one up!

Thanks!

You started with Death Note? Although it is a very contemporary comic, it is also quite deep and engaging from what I hear; also, very difficult to classify in terms of broad genre-specifics. I've never read past the first chapter of the original japanese debut of Death Note, but I did see the live-action movie based up on it, and was thoroughly impressed by it.

Hm, I'd like to get to know exactly what you had in mind in terms of action-laden stories, or ones with slapstick humor as the main driving point, but I'd recommend only the ones I've read over the years, such as Dr. Slump and the original Dragonball. I'm sorry I don't have more for you, but I haven't read manga in a long, long time, way before Viz and Bandai were distributing them by the bundles here in North America.

I really enjoy Berserk. I got interested in it through the anime, but the manga blows it away. It has a deep story, tons of action, and a character or two that provide comedic relief, although I will admit its not the manga's strong suit. It does have an adult oriented story, so if you are easily offended by cursing, nudity, severed limbs, etc....I wouldn't recommend it for you.

You might try poking around here: All Manga | OneManga.com until you find something you like. They have just about everything. The scans aren't always the best quality, but it'll give you stuff to look for in the brick-and-mortar store.

Baka-Manga has recommendations based on other people who also like the ones you do, so for Death Note it was:

Kiseijuu
ES
Vagabond
Berserk
Gantz
Claymore
Monster and more.

Thanks for the suggestions so far everyone. I looked around on Manga One and saw a few, but its hard to find hard copies of some of those in store. I ended up ordering a copy of Gantz though. While I'm waiting for that to come in, I picked up this mini series that was on the 'New' shelf called MetroSurvive. So far I'm impressed with it. Not very wordy but I appreciate the story it has. Its about a group that's trapped in a subway after an earthquake in Japan.

Thanks again!

Oh god, Death Note is probably the best manga out there.

Pretty shitty ending though.

Sorry, I don't have any suggestions, I'm just musing. If you like Death Note, you'll probably like the (anime) series Code Geass. It deals with similar themes, just on a more international scale. Just sayin.

I thought the Anime ending was better than the manga one. Spoiler: At least in the Anime, Light doesn't look that pathetic, and it actually seems like he might get away with it all.

Actually, i think they had what should have been the perfect ending. however, they just decided to just keep going and going until they finally came to what we now know as the terrible ending.
