Anyone else like Star Trek?
 

If yes, then tell me, which is ur favourite series?

For me it's gotta be the Original Captain Kirk series. Now there's a classic. It's got the action, the characters, the originality (which comes with being the pilot series), the storylines, and the acting more than makes up for any fuck ups in the special effects department. Damn beauty that series is.

My second favourite's gotta be Deep Space Nine. Once again, it's got the characters, and a kick ass captain that don't take no shite. The setting, in a time where interstellar relationships are strained and war is looming, is perfect (I love starship battles, and Federation fights y'see...), and it also has some of that brilliant (to me, anyway) comedy of the Original Kirk series.

I'm not really into TNG, it's kinda dry and repetitive and flat and dull and lacklustre and-oh.

Voyager is cool, I like the setting being lost in the Delta Quadrant and the characters are pretty cool as well. That Lt. Paris guy is makes me laugh.

But, for me, the original Kirk series wins hands down, plus nothing can beat that rivalry between Spock and McCoy!!!

TOS is the best, followed by movies II, IV and VI. interesting how even numbered Trek movies seem to be better than odd numbered trek movies. i forget what number they are on now. the 2003 film Borg Encounter stars the Voyager crew with Alice Krige as the borg queen. that's always fun. um, Janeway is admiral btw.

enterprise COULD have been really good. could have been sort of The Right Stuff meets TOS, with lots of action and adventure. it could have been a low-tech star trek series where they do NOT have the talking computer and without most of the star trek universe that had NOT been introduced yet. the romulans were mentioned but not actually SEEN, which is interesting. but there wasn't much for them to actually do for almost 2 entire seasons before they finally came up sith some kind of premise (the xindee).

The EVEN-ODD curse was broken with Nemesis. Definitely wasn't good enough to stand up there with those other evens.

As for series: TNG, no question.

I thought Nemesis was a pretty good flick. First Contact was my fave of the THG films. My favorite series was TNG also, I never really like the original series. Deep Space Nine was pretty cool, I never wateched Voyager or Enterprise.

I loved TNG. I ALWAYS looked forward to seeing Troi. Major crush on her. I really liked the characters: Pickard, Q and Data. I enjoyed all the TNG movies. Just watched Nemisis this weekend actually. I enjoyed it. It was darker than the others and I appreciated that.

TNG. Major crush on Captain Picard- best Trek Captain ever, IMO.
Was forced to watch the original Trek (I was a little kid when it first aired). Hated William Shatner - What horrible over-acting!Loved Scottie, though. I'm told the Trek *purists* like the original Trek, because it's more science fiction.

Liked some of DS9 -some good writing & characters, an original premise. All the Ferengis were a waste of screen time though.

Voyager had it's moments- the Borg eps were the best, Janeway could be grating.

Enterprise- Tried twice to watch it (i.e. watched few eps, stopped, tried again). It's awful. The characters are forgetable and the Captain (the most Kirk-like captain thus far) does outrageously stoopid things like take his dog with him on an away mission! I just want to bang my head on something. I can't bear to watch Enterprise.

I think the Trek movie franchise is on it's last legs. They've nothing great to build on. RIP Trek.

Enterprise is okay, when I remember to watch it.

DS9 is probably my favorite. The Dominion War was just too cool.

I really haven't seen much of Enterprise. My faves are probably DS9 or Voyager - a breakaway from the "space ship just goes out there and ... uh.. does.. stuff" plots. TOS is great for its cheesiness, and TNG was strong in its own way too. Definitely an acquired taste, but I'm into it :) Not "dress up as your favourite klingon" into it, though!

TNG... although I must admit, Seven Of Nine makes Voyager very attractive... ;)

I'm with you RelaX, I was an avid fad after Jeri Ryan came on board.

I like TOS best... it doesn't have that sterile feeling that most other Trek is saddled with. I like the cardboard sets, the overacting, and the unrealistically skimpy outfits the female characters wear. I even love "Spock's Brain". TNG is great too, but it doesn't have quite the feeling of vitality I get from TOS.

The original all the way. But i loved the movies they done with TNG crew even if i rarely watch a episode.

I watch almost all of voyager episode as it became worst and worst from the a episode to another. Some great characters put stories were there flaw.

And I was not in DS9 but I watched the dominion war and all the last episode and it was awesome.

I like TNG best, but I never gave Enterprise or DS9 much of a chance - I've only seen a few eps of each.

Patrick Stewart is awesome - I think Picard really made the show.

Of course TOS is the best, ST II being head and shoulders above the rest of the movies.

Then DS9. All other series I could do without, although for a short time TNG had a good thing going with the Worf family storyline.

Star Trek is possibly one of my favorite scifi shows/legacies.

TOS - Find it okay. Much of it is pretty new for tv back then but is now quite dated. I never really got very much into the original series after I was about 8. The movies helped me remember the characters and they grew on my but overall it was less about scifi and more about Gene Roddenberry's commentary on American society in the 60's. That's fine, but lets call it for what it was. (Favorite character: Bones.)

TNG - This show is why I'm such a big fan of the series. Finally, the show was able to simulate technology to a point that I was able to suspend disbelief for the whole episode. The characters were more flushed out and they replaced the campy portions of TOS with actually scifi. (Favorite character: Data.)

DS9 - A horrible spin-off IMO. They took everything that was cool about Star Trek and flushed it down the toilet. Star Trek was about a scientific journey through the quadrant and this show relied on all the cool stuff coming to them. I would rather it was dubbed Star Trek Fly Trap. The characters were interesting, but this flavor of Star Trek had WAY too much religion for me. It was sickening. (Favorite character: Odo.)

Voyager - This show had a lot of potential but more often than not the episodes didn't pan out. Although it had a better idea behind it than DS9, the characters seemed more shallow and the plots seemed thinner. This series could be called Star Trek 7of9, as she appeared to be the only thing keeping that show alive for the last season or two. (Favorite character: holo Doc.)

Enterprise - For a fledgling show, I think this one is pretty good. The episodes are either really terrible or really good (there doesn't appear to be too much of a middle for me with this show). I like that this one has much more of a pioneer feel to it than TNG did, but it can be very slow. I also have a few continuity worries with this show, but I can save that for another time. (Favorite character: Sub-commander T'Pol.)

I'm a big fan of the original series with Shatner, Nemoy and crew.

I found it hard to really get into the newer Star Treks probably because of the characters. Some of them were to corny for my taste.

TNG is definitely my favorite ST series, maybe because of my age. I never really liked TOS although I loved most of the movies with that cast.

At any rate I found DS9 to be pretty boring until later in the show when the Dominion War story arc began.

Voyager was pretty good IMO but could have been better. 7of9 was definitely over used. Of course I guess that has something to do with Jeri Ryan dating Brannon Braga who's a damn writer on the show! I even heard that she was originally slated to cameo in Nemesis instead of Janeway but it was changed due to scheduling conflicts.

How in the hell would they have even written it in? Then again they didn't explain how Worf was there either so what does it matter.

As far as Enterprise goes, I've never even watched a single episode. I'll stick with my 7 TNG DVD Boxed Sets. :D

If you look back DSN, Voyager and TNG didn't develop a strong series until the third season or so... Took them a while to find their legs as it were. Give Enterprise a chance.

For DSN (one of my favourite) didn't really get started until TNG ended its run. When that happened DSN got to control the plot of the Star Trek Universe. They could let the Klingons break the treaty, go to war with the Dominion, etc. Before that they just had to following TNG's wake.

I watched Voyager on and off but never really caught on. I've been watching it now in re-runs on SPACE (Canadian Sci-Fi channel) and true to form it was a much better series after about season three or so...

Yep, that Dominion war and its build up was the thing that embeded DS9 in second place for me. I just love war and Star Trek!!!

I agree that TOS was cheesy, but I found it was full of vigour and originality that the other series' (except Enterprise) can only build on. It was a bit stiff, and a bit over acted, but it's still a classic. I think that captain Kirk more or less made Star Trek, as the pioneer of the series he's a benchmark of respect and legend in both the Star Trek world itself and the Trekkie world. And the fact that the scenery was more or less all cardboard and paper mache (spelling?) made it all the more fun. Add to that some fun rivalry, a 30-45 minute love affair involving the captain in a good amount of the shows and some decent comedy and you've got a winner there. The atmosphere in TOS is great. When I first watched it (sometime in 1992/3) it was airing Wednesday evenings on the BBC. It was gripping and scary, you could almost believe it to be real. Since I've grown older and watched it over and over, the effect was still there. DS9 has this great atmosphere too, but not as much. I just don't feel this in TNG, it feels too rigid and 'rehearsed' for my liking.

I think the problem with TNG (for me) was that it seemed a little stiff, a little humdrum. Y'know, kinda like when you're sitting in a room full of computers, and the room just feels dense. I dunno, it just didn't make me think 'wow'! When I watched it. Don't get me wrong, I still liked it, as with all the series, but to me it doesn't compare with TOS & DS9. Gotta admit tho, it more than helped make Star Trek almost a household name.

Anyways enough from me. This is probably the only subject that I would be willing to write pages on!!!

Kirk (Nice manner, strong command, good sense of humour, all round don!)
Riker (Loud and boisterous, cheery)
Sisco (Tough guy, blunt, good fighter, good attitude)
Paris (damned joker, a funny guy, a little rude)

My fav ius TNG.... TNT/Spike TV's new TREK UNCUT is pretty frckin cool.

I've only seen reruns of TOS (*seeing as how my father was a kid when they came out*), but those would have to be my favorites by far. TNG is pretty decent, but there is just something about watching Bones and Spock. Fav episode: "The Trouble with Tribbles" :)

TNG is, by far, still my favorite. I do like DS9, but Voyager, I just could never get into. Enterprise = feh, and I like to watch TOS for the "cheese effect".

Trek Uncut? This is the first I've heard of that. What is it? Where does it air?

TNG is the best imo. I like all the other series, w/ ds9 and voyager being about on par w/ each other. And then enterprise, then TOS. (sorry for you old school folk).

And on an off note, Galaxy Quest is so much funnier to trekies it seems, so many little inside jokes and stuff. Ahhh, when the kid is saying all the techno babble to his parents and runs outside...aww jeez, its classic.

I grew up watching TNG. My favorite parts of Star Trek were probably the TOS movies and the Dominion War part of DS9 though.

TOS is my first pick, but DS9 is a very close second.

I always enjoyed TOS, but I suppose I will never be able to fully appreciate the impact it had on the population of the time, and the social commentary it made. I grew up with TNG and loved it. Now that I have started watching it again I see some brilliant episodes and some REALLY lousy ones. Good characters though. DS9 was in my opinion some of the best Sci-Fi I have ever seen. Okay the Ferengi were overdone and some of the early stuff wasn't great, but there were so many episodes that just made you THINK. Isn't that what seperates Sci-fi from sci-fantasy? Hated nearly everything about Voyager and have only seen a few episodes of Enterprise so I will have to reserve judgement.

My favorite has always been TNG. The original series has a certain amount of charm. I felt that DSN had its moments, especially once they started to leave the station on a regular basis with the cloaked ship. I felt that Voyager did lots of harm to the franchise, destroying the mystique of the Borg and Q. I have seen very little of Enterprise, but it seemed kind of odd to me. The common thread for me is that only the series that were actually created by Gene Roddenberry were the original and TNG, all the rest were only based on his ideas, and seem naturally inferior.
