Wargames
Last night I watched Wargames again. In the theater. They had a one night showing for it's 25th anniversary. It was awesome to see it on the big screen again, but I swear, everytime he grabbed that huge ass 5 1/2 inch floppy disk to load into the computer, I couldn't stop laughing. It seemed so cool and high tech when I was kid. It was nice to see, that the tech aside, the movie really hasn't lost any of it impact or entertainment value after all these years. Although the trailer they played for Wargames 2 made me cring in pain. Looks like total crap.

damn damn damn damn. FWIW, the floppy was an 8" disc. The "Wargames IMSAI" Trailer Oh well. At least I can play a nice game of tic tac toe. I also didn't realize that Michael Madsen was in the movie

Shall we play a game?
(yes I felt like being a picky nerd bastard ) I just saw it today, and it actually didn't look too bad to me, in fact I just dropped it in my Netflix cue.

This movie helped define me as a teenager. Seemed like it played every week on either TBS or TNT.
I love, love, LOVE this movie. It happened to be on the other day and I totally waxed nostalgic about it. My SO thought it was simultaneously ridiculously nerdy and kinda cute. I guess she has a thing for dorky guys. Wired has an interesting article this month about the 25th anniversary of WarGames. Basically an oral history by the producers and others involved with the movie: WarGames: A Look Back at the Film That Turned Geeks and Phreaks Into Stars Another small thing about this movie that I love is the list of war scenarios that the computer rapidly goes through at the end. Stuff like "East Asia Surprise" or "India Heavy." Most of the list sounds vaguely dirty. "The only winning move is not to play." |
