Rocky Horror remake

PLEASE say it isnt so this is one movie that in my opinion they dont need to touch. Hell its still playing where I live as a midnight movie.

MTV readies 'Rocky Horror' redux - Entertainment News, Film News, Media - Variety

Quote:
MTV readies 'Rocky Horror' redux
Network to remake 1975 cult classic

MTV is doing the time warp on a remake of 1975 cult classic "The Rocky Horror Picture Show."

Lou Adler, exec producer of the original film, is partnering with BermanBraun and Fox Television Studios on the new rendition.

Two-hour remake will use the original screenplay by Jim Sharman and Richard O'Brien but may also include music not featured in the original.

Helmer and casting decisions have yet to be announced.

Fox is sin discussions with BSkyB and Sky Movies to co-finance and distribute the telepic abroad.

Timetable for the start of production hasn't been established yet but the partners aim to move forward quickly once the final elements are in place.

"I'd like to see it shown a year from this coming Halloween, but that's up to MTV," Adler said.

BermanBraun principal Gail Berman will exec produce the project along with partner Lloyd Braun. Berman has been attached to a "Rocky Horror" remake dating back to her tenure as Fox programming chief (Daily Variety, July 1, 2002).

The original "Rocky Horror," starring Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick and Meatloaf, has grossed $140 million in domestic box office over the years, primarily from the wallets of youthful audience members who have shown up for midnight screenings over the past three decades.
I was in the over 200 club, and actually played Janet every weekend for over a year....I really really really dont want to see this....There is NO WAY IN HELL (IMO) that Tim Curry and Richard O'Brien can be replaced

ugh...

I can't see a remake topping or even mimicking the original.

My kids and I were talking about this the day we went to see The Dark Knight. My sixteen year-old can't wait until she has a car and can take her sister and do Rocky Horror at a midnight show.

I could maybe see it redone by Tim Burton, although his "Willy Wonka" remake was pretty craptastic. But with MTV in charge, forget it... they shouldn't be touching this, and I can't really understand why they want to. The Rocky Horror crowd doesn't exactly mesh with MTV's target audience.

Which is precisely why this remake should not be done. MTV is going to make RHPS mesh with their target audience. Why redo it otherwise?

Oh...and I used to go as Riff Raff. Many, many years ago.

Why would you bother? The original was terrible (yes, I know that's the point but, it's bad). Just leave it alone.

As i'm sitting her half wake drinking my big ass coffee shock at the news that cult classic like RHPS is being remade just so that MTV can once again look as if they got the market on the brain dead youth that watch most of their crap ass show will kill the excitement of seeing the movie played in some really small shitty theater with others wear their favorite character at midnight.
Ah, i remember I was 17 at the tine when one of my friends finally got their license and we all packed ourselves in this crapass little car that could only fit 3 people. well somehow by magic we fit all 5 of us and saw for the first time RHPS and it was amazing and I'll never regret sneaking out of my house to be a part of such an history.

Can't MTV just go on making their crappy wannabe dance and singing with no soul or speak of being memorable for the 100th time and leave a classic alonnnnneeeeeeeee

The original has such a feel of "we know this movie is crap, but no one's going to bother seeing it anyway, so let's just have some fun while we get it out of the way". That spirit can't be recaptured.

When I first began to consider the OP, the wires in my brain crossed, and I thought that it would be cast with Disney Channel stars. I recommend that no one consider that thought any further.

Why am I not concerned with the Broadway version, which had plenty of stunt-casting, but I find a new movie problematic?

Well, chalk it up to another corporate appropriation of our youth. Anyone seen the JCPenney "Breakfast Club" commercials? It's probably the result of someone "our age" who has become an advertising exec and thinks it would be "cool" to do. Nevermind that Lou is in on it ... it's all about advertising dollars. They'll probably get all kinds of corporate sponsorship from Scott Towels, Ball Park Franks and Kool-Aid.

When I was old enough to drive I went every weekend in St. Louis as Frank himself. If only the teddy still fit.

I usually don't care much about remakes and such. However, this is horrible. I agree that maybe if it were Tim Burton, I'd be a bit curious. However, fucking MTV? Seriously, haven't they done enough damage to the culture?

This makes me sad. Like when the 'punk' kids started shopping at the mall.

Wasn't the original the stage production?

Yes, in London if I recall correctly. There have also been several revivals. In that case, it is just the "Rocky Horror Show"; no "Picture".

Yeah the stage show started in 73 with Tim Curry as part of the OC in london, he also came with the cast when they did it in California, then when the made the movie they changed the title to RHPS

I can see the producers finding people for Susan Sarandon and Barry Boswick's characters and if the producers think outside the box, they might even find a good support cast but replacing Tim Curry and Meatloaf just can't happen.

I gave it a try in my final year at school - sadly there are no photos...

I think that now I'd be better able to play Eddie.

I think my funniest moment was deciding not to get dressed to go home and I just threw a guys jacket over my "janet" finale outfit....I got in a wreck that night

fortunately the cops were nice lol

I was 18 and that was the first and only time I ever drove in my "underwear"

While I was at university I went to a full stage version as Eddie (it was my normal daily clothes at the time), but there were a lot of mates that went in lingerie.

On the London Underground.

In rush hour.

This sounds horrible. I used to play Eddie in the stage show that went on in front of the movie screen in Green Bay in October of '95.

Besides, no one will ever be as sexily cute as Little Nell.

I don't know--I think Lindsay would make a pretty good Magenta.

In a stage cast. In front of the original film. NOT in a remake.

I went just about every weekend my junior and senior years of high school. I went as Frank a few times. As far as I know there's no photographic evidence of that anywhere.

I am proud to say that I got to be present for my daughters first viewing (albeit not in the theater....that wont come until her 16th bday next year) of this movie.

I dont know what was funnier her reaction to me and my friend that was here to singing and participating or her face with Frank made his appearance.

lol I've got pics but unfortunately I cant show them her since she's underage. Her jaw just dropped open and stayed that way lol

soon as it was over the first words out of her mouth where "that was the most stupid and pointless movie ever....can we stay up and watch it again?"

hehehehehe She is having a hard time thinking of her mom playing janet.

Fortunately what we have on dvd is the 25th anniversary edition so we were able to show her how people dress up to go see it, she still doesnt really understand...but she will when we take her to see it.

that was my first reaction to Frank, too.

My boyfriend has never seen it (I know, right? How odd!), so I get to watch him watch it for the first time. I can't wait!

I had my first viewing of Frank when I was 11, but didn't get to see the whole thing. My best friend at the time kept raving about the movie, and wanted to show me a few musical numbers. After my complete look of shock and jaw droppage, her mom gently suggested we should turn it off. lol... she must have known how completely sheltered I was.

Tim Curry definitely looked hot in the fishnets...but I have to say, I think Anthony Steward Head looked just as sexy
