Christian Bale Arrested for Yelling at Family Members

Christian Bale just got arrested for allegedly assaulting his mother and sister.

Batman star Christian Bale arrested over assault claims brought by his own mother and sister | Mail Online

Quote:

Batman star Christian Bale has been arrest today over an alleged
assault in his London hotel suite, according to reports.

The allegation was made by the Welsh-born actor’s mother and sister before the European premiere of The Dark Knight in the West End last night - but police decided not to intervene in order not to spoil the first-night celebrations.

Bale, 34, faced police questioning this afternoon over the incident at the Dorchester Hotel.

Bale’s mother Jenny, 61, and sister
Sharon, 40, who lives in Dorset, went to
a police station in Hampshire yesterday
to lodge the allegation of assault.

The matter was referred to the
Metropolitan Police.

BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Bail for Bale over assault claim

Lasereth 07-22-2008 10:37 AM

BTW the Christian Bale assault charges are for verbal assault. As in "he yelled at me." Leave it to sensationalism to do the rest!

Frosstbyte 07-22-2008 10:37 AM

Can a mod move the "Christian Bale might be a bad person" posts to a new thread? Other than being contemporaneous, they don't have any place in the context of a discussion about the movie, I don't think.

LoganSnake 07-22-2008 12:08 PM

Whoops.

Done :)

jorgelito 07-22-2008 05:16 PM

You can be arrested for yelling at someone?

SecretMethod70 07-22-2008 05:24 PM

Apparently in the UK.

I better not move to Europe.

I am with Retro on this one. I would be in jail long ago.

Bear Cub 07-22-2008 07:46 PM

What a crock of shit. I can expect something like this out of France, but not the UK...

Really? The country that has cameras on every major corner in London and other cities?

mixedmedia 07-22-2008 07:54 PM

I'm sorry, but this thread title makes me giggle. :)

As it should mm, this is the most retarded thing ever.

mixedmedia 07-22-2008 08:06 PM

oh well, it's good for young actors to get arrested.

especially when they've got a hot new film out

SecretMethod70 07-22-2008 09:25 PM

I dunno...I mean, I titled the thread this way when I split the posts from the Dark Knight thread, but most of the actual news reports just say "assault"...they don't mention that it's "verbal assault." I was pretty disappointed when I first heard about the news, until I found out about the verbal part later on. I don't think Christian Bale is the kind of actor that would benefit from this. At least, not in my mind.

Which other country would have cameras on every major corner in London?

Martian 07-22-2008 09:45 PM

There is a London Ontario roughly 300 km west of where I am currently sitting. They do not have cameras on every major street corner, so far as I'm aware. But they could.

Christian Bale is a meanie.

Willravel 07-22-2008 09:50 PM

As I recall, Bale has a photographic memory. I remember mention of instantly learning lines and only having to be shown fight moves once. He also is incredibly driven, able to change his body shape drastically through incredibly difficult diet and exercise programs. I've only known a few people in my life with abilities like this, and they had to take extra steps to be personable. This could be my limited experience with people like this, but could it be a savant type dichotomy? Could Bale's less than personable behavior be a byproduct, somehow, of his incredible mind and drive? I don't mean to venerate him for bad behavior, but it stuck out in my mind.

SecretMethod70 07-22-2008 11:03 PM

I'm not sure what bad behavior even took place.

He yelled (perhaps harshly) at his mom and sister. Whoop-di-doo.

highthief 07-23-2008 02:12 AM

Well now that my post has been unceremoniously moved and retitled - can someone provide some links this is about a "verbal assault"? I checked the BBC, Times, Mail and a couple of other sites - no mention of that aspect.

Or maybe he just got tired of their bullshit.

I'm sorry I'm not taking this seriously. I go now.

Psst. You English, thinking you've got the lowest common denominator when it comes to paparrazzi. Allow me to demonstrate the American superiority that is The Mighty TMZ.

U-S-A! U-S-A! Woohoo!

Charlatan 07-23-2008 05:05 AM

Geez... you Americans. So arrogant.

It wasn't assault and battery, only assault.

Turns out that Christian Bale is depressed over the death of Heath Ledger. He went into hiding for 6 weeks after he found out about Ledger's death. And Christian's mother broke the cardinal rule of motherdom: don't talk shit about your son's wife.

My mother used to talk shit about my husband all the time and it did make me pretty pissed off.

...then again, she was right so...you know :shy:

Nimetic 07-23-2008 04:19 PM

Just the yelling eh? Maybe his hearing is going after all those action scenes.

LoganSnake 07-23-2008 04:48 PM

Don't the media have anything better to cover than domestic shout fights? Sometimes it's like living in an alternate dimension.

blahblah454 07-23-2008 05:06 PM

People yell at other people all the time. Why hell arrest him for it?

This is an awesome way to spend resources.

Burgerflipp 07-23-2008 05:52 PM

sigh...sounds eerily like something that would occur in my own family, unfortunately.

SecretMethod70 07-23-2008 06:21 PM

What really annoys me is that when I saw this in the newspaper today, it just said "assault." It was written in such a way that it would be easy to think he hit his mother and sister. That the AP wasn't clear on that detail from the very start is really annoying to me.

Frosstbyte 07-23-2008 09:32 PM

It's one of those unfortunate lay/legal splits. "Assault" has come to mean in regular parlance hitting someone. It's legal definition involves only the threat or attempt to hit someone without actually succeeding in doing so (which is legally called battery). So, they're being accurate, but most people don't realize they mean different things. They ought to be more specific, though, since they're painting him in a rather poor light the way the headlines read.

SecretMethod70 07-23-2008 10:48 PM

Indeed. First I was upset because an actor I respected apparently hit his mom and sister. Now I'm upset because an actor I respect is being made to look like he hit his mom and sister when he in fact did not.

exactly.

evilbeefchan 07-24-2008 02:19 AM

Whew, respect for Bale quickly restored. While I frown upon yelling at your own mother, the guy's friend committed suicide, his relationship is "going through rough times", give the man a break!

The_Jazz 07-24-2008 05:01 AM

Apparently he yelled at her because she defended his sister. His sister who had just asked for $200,000 to raise her kids. What kind of asshole won't give his sister $200,000?

[/sarcasm]

Anxst 07-24-2008 05:48 AM

Yeah, I was relieved when I found out this was truly just 'assault'. Although, I immediately imagined him screaming at his mother "BECAUSE I'M THE GODDAMN BATMAN!"

I'd be screaming too if I were as stressed as he probably is at the moment and my sister asked for something that stupid and my mom said I should give it to her.
