Swingtown
So who watched this show last night? The premise of the show is as follows:-
SWINGTOWN, from the director of "Big Love" and "Rome," traces two generations of friends and neighbors as they forge intimate connections and explore new freedoms during the culturally transformative decade of the 1970s. It portrays the ever-shifting “swing” of the pendulum that reflected the change in America's collective value system -- morally, politically and socially. After moving to an upscale lakeside Chicago suburb in July of 1976, Susan and Bruce Miller must confront temptation in the form of their provocative new neighbors, Tom and Trina Decker, while not abandoning their old friends Janet and Roger Thompson. As the adult couples evaluate whether to embrace or avoid newfound personal freedoms, the curious Miller and Thompson children begin to discover and assert their own morality and sexual identities as they come of age in a world on the precipice of change. In a shifting social climate -- defined by its music, fashion and style -- everyone in SWINGTOWN is confronted with personal choices, experimentation and varying attitudes. -------------------------------------------------------- I thought the show was allright, it caught our interest enough that we will watch the next episode. We still don't know very much about the various characters or the backstories but that will take time. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I went out to catch a movie and forgot this was on.
Given the racy subject and the fact that Molly Parker in it, I'd like to see it. However, I'm suspect because it's on CBS and not say, HBO or Showtime. I admit it. I'd be more interested if there was some guaranteed nudity.

I'm wondering how long it will air on CBS before they HAVE to move it to cable. The opening scene looked to be a blowjob happening (wasnt though) and there was a threesome in the first 10 minutes. I can see all those uptight 'Red' states in the middle of the US freaking out about this and getting it tossed in short order.

i thought the first episode was pretty interesting... a decent start at developing the characters of the family that moved, i've got a feeling that it'll really focus on them and their relationship with the new neighbors and how it effects their relationship with the old friends (who were much more old fashioned... although i liked the husband, he seemed interested in the party, but just shrugged and followed his wife home).
would definatly be better if it could be more graphic.

Gripey minor spoiler for people who haven't seen episode 1:
Spoiler: This episode was a one hour porn buildup without any of the reward. Maybe now that the cat is out of the bag, so to speak, they can start to address the issue at hand, but it took the characters the whole friggin episode to figure out it was "That Kind Of Party" when the audience knew it from 15 minutes in. Lame.

It has promise but I think it would be better on cable. Not just for the nudity but also for the situations and conversations. Still, I'll be watching it, even if it's just for the 70's porno 'staches and clothes.

I'm actually pleasantly surpised, watched episode 3 last night. Anyone have any idea how the ratings are doing? Does it look like it may stay around for a while?

Last week's episode was great. It was pretty much an endorsement for legalized pot.
It made me think a lot about how I never tried weed, but was probably seen as the plain & normal type in college. Now I wonder how my life would have been different if I would have done it over spring break or something... |
